I think we should refrain from posting such information so soon after publixation and follow the Sarna policy for such matters, 2 months before such info can be posted, following publication.

Understandable Blacknova.

To renew the discussion what did everyone think of this warship? I looked up Light Cruiser and the concept of a anti-fighter ship with smaller guns to protect other capital ships is intriguing. The Commonwealth can take on fighters and has a good armament. I thought it would be faster.

I'd say the Commonwealth is what the Star League-era ships could have ended up being.

The Aegis is a solid ship that is more than capable of taking out anything that comes near it but it is highly vulnerable to missiles. If the systems on the Commonwealth were used on the other Star League-era ships then the SLDF and Clan fleets would have been a lot tougher.

I would have loved to see the Clans add AMS to there SL-era and Clan designs it makes complete sense to me at least for a nearly kilometre (or more than a kilometre) long unit which costs more than some planets ANNUAL output to carry inclusive defence systems without having to rely on carried support craft

Warships should be covered with conventional weapons and AMS to deal with fighters and missiles. Unfortunately the fire control rules make it very inefficient due to the weight penalties. (if you have 10 AMS for point defense, 10 Large Lasers for fighter defense and then add a NAC/30 you get hit with a weight penalty of over 350 tons. Try to a layered fighter defense- LRMs/Lasers/SRMs and penalty can get really crazy.) If I were going to redo the Warship rules, Fire Control would be the first thing I would change, followed by armor (make it weight a lot more and probably provide more protection).

I'm not that bothered with the conventional side with the new firing modes of the Naval Laser and Bracketting with Naval Autocannons "big gun" ships can be ferosome against all targets

I read on the bt forum I can't remember if it was weirdo or Jellico said when tested an Aegis took out over 100 fighters solo! I can't seem to find the tread

My personal biggest concern for the SL era and Clan tech ships is their lack of AMS I understand the game reason for it - it keeps naval missiles useful - but in a game where a single nuclear armed missile can wipe out your WarShip that costs billions I'd have thought AMS would be of great importance.

Me personally both in game and fiction wise I would have given the canon ships a missile defence system of some sort maybe not AMS that fills every arc but a single system built into the ship that is pretty much part of the core fabric of the ship (I don't mean ECM although I know that helps). Maybe something like that system Blacknova had for the KU Terran Hegemony side that right now I can't name

It depends what opponent you intend to expect.

In a game where I expected to face a Taurian warship fleet I built ships with the capital weapons massed at the fore- and aft sides. Broadsides, fore and aft got massed AMS and secondary weapons.

The Commonwealth seems to be well-designed to be able to avoid contemporary heavy cruisers like the Cruiser, Aegis and Dart due to its more powerful engines. It's also got a long-range armament that should let it out-range most of the weapons on faster ships like the Narukami bloc-I and League bloc-I. It won't win slugging matches against battleships, but that's why it's a light cruiser. Taking on the bruisers is the job of heavier ships - ultimately the Tharkad-class and presumably before this, discards from the Hegemony. The Commonwealth deals with smaller ships and provides anti-fighter support for the battleline.

I have a tentativeBlock III for the Commonwealth made, up but wont post until the 2 month waiting requirement is over, but the basic skinney of it is, swapped out the current missile launchers with AR-10 Launchers and ammo for them, refitted the PD to AMS, and provided a light battery of ER L Lasers and G. Rifles for Anti Aircraft and a few other minor items, like a LF battery and LFA armor and DHS, pretty decent, I have to compliment the PTB, they did a good job on the basic hull design, and kinda see that this was the spirital ancestor of the Mjolnir Battlecruiser

Much like the Hammerhands made me forget about the Warhammer alltogether... this ship made me forget instantly the Dart Light Cruiser.
