From the Charon thread:
Well that's easy, you have founded munchkin industries. There is no style, no realism, no attempt to bring depth, other than overwhelming perfection in taking advantage of the rules to create uber units.
If you want to impress us, build a 450 000 ton destroyer, where you have only standard equipment and cant use more than 8 of any 1 type of naval weapon and no more than 3 of any single caliber.
Okay. I'll bite and give it a try. :)

BLACKNOVA
Overview
As part of the final Magistracy attempt to bolster their Fleet during the Reunification War, the Canopians attempted to produce a fast raiding ship to prey upon the vulnerable supply lines of the SLDF and the Marik House troops assaulting their worlds. Codenamed Project BLACKNOVA, this effort would have resulted in an entirely new class of WarShips . . . but it was started too late and only managed to divert essential resources from existing Magistracy production lines.
Only one ship, the prototype that would eventually be christened SLS Blacknova, would ever see service. And that ship, captured intact when the yards constructing it were taken by the Star League only served the enemies of the Canopians.
The prototype, as yet unnamed by the Canopian military, was erroneously christened Blacknova after a lengthy communication informed SLDF High Command of the capture of the almost (97%) complete ship, as well as the name of the clandestine Canopian ship-building program.
Desperate (at the time) for additional ships, the SLDF completed the construction and in 2582 SLS Blacknova entered service by the order of First Lord Ian Cameron.
Capabilities
Designed first and foremost as a raider, the Blacknova was a fast and robust vessel. Massing 450,000 tons (30,000 tons lighter than the standard SLDF Baron-class), it was both tougher (in terms of armor and structure) and fleeter of foot (in both acceleration and maneuverability) than the older SLDF vessel.
Indeed, a quintet of transit drives at the rear of the WarShp provided for a safe thrust of 2.5-g's (!!) and a maximum acceleration of 4-g's (!!!). Matched only by the Rim Worlds Pinto and the brand new SLDF Kimagure classes, the Blacknova was warmly welcomed to the Fleet where it was expected that the pure thrust available would result in an almost unstoppable WarShip.
Those expectations were . . . overstated in reality, however.
Few commanders were able to use the ship's thrust to the fullest extent . . . and the sheer lack of other vessels of a similar speed (except for handful of the brand new Kimagures) led SLDF naval commanders to assign the Blacknova to the same missions as existing Baron and Vincent class vessels.
These were missions that the new ship was neither designed nor armed adequately for.
As a result, by the end of the Reunification War, the Blacknova was relegated to the Reserve and mothballed.
But back to the ship itself. Unusual for a destroyer (especially one of such small size), the Blacknova mounted two docking collars for DropShips. This somewhat offset the somewhat limited fuel, provisions, and cargo stowage capacity, but SLDF officers (used to the far greater quantities available aboard most former Terran Hegemony vessels) were disappointed in the little ship's ability to function on extended cruises without support.
While the 539 tons of standard armor provided excellent protection, and a dozen fighters (plus four small craft) gave the ship excellent power projection, it was the eclectic mixed armament battery that truly doomed this vessel.
Originally planned with a far more homogenous battery, the tide of the War forced Magistracy engineers to use what they had on hand (rather than what had been planned) to outfit the little destroyer.
The resulting hodge-podge of weaponry left many SLDF officers shaking their heads in disbelief.
All eight firing arcs included two Large Lasers and three Medium Lasers to provide additional defense against hostile aerospace fighters and small craft. In addition, each mounted a rather . . . unusual . . . array of capital scale weapons.
The Nose arc included a Medium Naval PPC, a 55cm Naval Laser, a Killer Whale capital missile launcher (with a magazine containing 25 missiles), and two Class 25 Naval Autocannons (with a combined magazine containing 100 bursts of fire).
The Fore-Quarters featured a Light Naval PPC, a White Shark capital missile launcher (with 25 missiles stored), and a Class 10 Naval Autocannon (with 50 bursts of fire).
The Broadsides were each outfitted with a 55cm Naval Laser and a Class 30 Naval Autocannon (50 bursts each).
The Stern-Quarters were equipped with a Medium Naval PPC, a Class 20 Naval Autocannon (with 50 bursts), and a Killer Whale capital missile launcher (with 25 missiles each port and starboard).
Finally, the Stern was provided with a Light Naval PPC, a White Shark capital missile launcher (25 missiles), and two Barracuda capital missile launchers (50 missiles total).
On the positive side, the Canopians included sufficient cooling systems and power generation capacity that the Blacknova was able to fire every weapon mounted simultaneously.
For crew health and morale, the design also included a pair of contra-rotating 95-meter diameter grav decks, as well as accommodations for a Marine Rifle Platoon of 28 officers and men, plus space for 31 passengers. This was in addition to the 211 officers and men assigned to the destroyer.
Fuel, water, life support, and provisions were provided to allow for a 180 day cruise (provided the ship accelerated at no more than 1-g) in addition to 22,500 tons of available cargo space in the main and secondary holds.
Clandestine Service
Although assigned to the Fleet Reserves in mothballs following the Reunification War, Blacknova was quietly restored to service in 2683. But not by the SLDF Naval Command.
Instead, the WarShip reentered service as part of the Star League Marine Corps Special Operations Command. Consisting primarily of CAAN (Combined Armor, Air, and Naval) Regiments, many outside of the SLDF forgot about the Special Operations Command and its elite troopers. Needing a fast response ship (and getting no answers from the SLDF Naval Command), the Marines instead decided to think outside of the box.
Upon finding Blacknova listed in the rolls of the Inactive Reserve, the Marines quietly had the ship reactivated. Assigned a pair of Intruder-class Assault DropShips, the fast WarShip and her DropShips were soon delivering Special Operations teams across the entire Inner Sphere and Periphery to where they were needed most.
Never 'officially' recognized as part of the SLDF Fleet, Blacknova nonetheless served with distinction until the Amaris Coup. From then until the Liberation of Terra, the little WarShip was in the thick of battles, always skirting the edges to deliver her skilled covert operatives to whatever battlefields that they needed to be.
Almost consigned (once again) to the Reserve in the aftermath of the Liberation, the ship was spared that fate and departed on the Exodus with General Kerensky . . . never to be heard from again.
At least so far.

Overview:
The Resolute class Destroyer was one of the last warships designed by the Federated Suns during the early days of the 1st Succession War. As the war dragged on the Federation found itself deprived of the facilities and resources needed to build new warships. Gathering together the few remaining warship designers, the AFFS Navy commissioned a new warship that could be built at the Challenge System shipyards, the only shipyard still capable of building warships. While the yard was still able to turn out Congress-D frigates, it was hoped that the Resolute could be built in larger numbers due to it’s smaller size and lower cost. Unfortunately on 2 Resolutes were completed before the shipyard was destroyed.
Capabilities:
One of the key requirements when developing the Resolute was to reduce the development time was much as possible. For this reason the design team chose to use the same GM 8050 Starlifter engines that are used on Congress. Combined with the lighter mass of the Resolute, they provide the ship with an impressive thrust capability, making the Resolute a very nimble vessel.
The Resolute also mounted the same Oriente-30 Naval Autocannon as the Congress. These were mounted in the nose providing the ship with a powerful punch. Supporting these guns were a number of weapons acquired from stockpiles around the Federated Suns. The FedArms-Class 20 Autocannons came from a stockpile of spare parts that had been built for the Defender class Battlecruiser. If more Resolutes were built they would have been forced to use either the FedArms class 25 from the Davion II or the Armstrong LN-10 Naval Autocannon from the Congress. The White Shark Launchers were identical to those used on the Congress, while the Naval Lasers came from a stockpile of weapons for the New Syrtis Class Carrier. The weapons were placed to to allow a powerful head on attack with enough rear mounted weapons to discourage pursuit. The Resolute was also equipped with a number of anti-fighter weapons, as early reports of the Succession War emphasized the vulnerability of warships to fighters.
Deployment:
Only 2 Resolutes, the Resolute and the Vanguard were completed before the Challenge System shipyards were destroyed by Combine raiders. The Vanguard was lost soon after it was launched when it was attacked by a Capellan raiding force. The Resolute survived to the early days of the 2nd Succession War. During the 1st Davion attack on Tikonov, the Resolute encountered a Capellan Du Shi Wang Battleship. Despite being outmatched by the larger vessel, Captain Matthew Marcus of the Resolute engaged the ship to prevent it from engaging the inbound troop transports. The Capellan vessel scored several hits against the Resolute, crippling the ship’s weapon systems. After ordering his crew to abandon ship, Captain Marcus put the Resolute on a collision course with the Capellan battleship. When ordered by Admiral Winfield, commander of the AFFS task force to abandon ship, Captain Marcus famously replied “So long as the Resolute can maneuver, she can still fightâ€. Shortly after that utterance, Captain Marcus was killed when the Resolute impacted the Du Shi Wang, destroying both ships. For his bravery, Captain Marcus was awarded the Medal Excalibur.

Just a few hundred tons off. I didn't know how much provisions you wanted, so that might be the difference. And you only need 168 crew (including bay personnel). I added the difference (32) as 2nd class passengers. Also, you had 3 NAC-30 in the bow . . . but the limit for bay damage is 70. So I put them in as three different bays (at 30 ea). You could instead have one at 60 and one at 30 . . . it doesn't change the numbers any. However, you are oversinked . . . by 153 tons.
EDIT: Corrected stats above.

==Overview:==
The Aleisha-class was developed by the Capellan Confederation as a counter to
the Terran Baron-class and Federated Suns Davion-class, both of which were
seen as major threats at the time. While the Aleisha's expected targets didn't
live up to the hype, the Aleisha - named for the much-loved third Chancellor
of the Confederation - survived Ares Baxter's budget cuts although only three
of the proposed six hulls were laid down.
==Capabilities:==
Extremely fast for the time, matching the Terran's Lola I fast destroyers, the
Aleisha-class carried large fuel bunkerage, spare components and crew supplies
for extended operations without a supply train, whereas many contemporaries
packed in larger cargo bays to act as supply bases themselves.
To reduce the demands on supply lines, most of the Aleisha's primary armament
is concentrated in clusters of turrets divided fore and aft of the central
cargo stores and flight deck. Mounted along the spine of the ship are three
heavy forward guns and a single aft weapon, making clear the intended
offensive role of the ships.
While uniformity between the various turrets was the original plan, supply
shortages in the Capellans still diverse naval construction facilities forced
the use of multiple weapon sizes. Chancellor Baxter claimed this was a sign of
unity within the Confederation while the crews called it a maintenance
nightmare.
==Deployment==
The Aleisha-class were employed in the Rim War where they served well but by
the Second Andurien Wars a century later they were increasingly out-dated and
hard to maintain. After the loss of the lead ship of the class in 2529, the
naval command pulled the two remaining ships into secondline duties and they
were retired after the Treaty of New Delos.
Chancellor Ursula Liao offered to sell the two ships to the SLDF in tepid
support of the Reunification War but surveyors advised against this, providing
costs for modernisation that would have cost the SLDF more in time and money
than new destroyers would.
Intelligence reports from this report were allegedly leaked to Blue Nose
Clipperships for use in the development of the Lola II leading to Blue Nose
countersueing two Capellan shipyards for defamation in 2654. The cases were
settled privately in 2661, a year after the SLDF elected to scrap the Lola II.
Wags suggested that the only things Blue Nose might have copied were the
maintenance issues.

MA - Thanks for plugging it into HMA for me. There is 1 small mistake- the Fore & aft sides should each have 4 PPCs and 8 Medium Lasers- that probably accounts for most of the difference in mass and will use up most of the extra heatsinks. The total heat should be 1775. As for crew- I rarely use minimum crews I figure they can always use extra maintenance personnel. As for the NAC/30s I would put them into 3 separate bays.

Ah. I thought that you had doubled the PPC/ML in the side arcs (i.e., combined the port/starboard together). I'll fix and update later. And not a problem.

Notes
A concept design proposed to the First Lord late in the Star League era as part of an Orbital Guard
Offered by Hegemony traditionalists openly trying to crave out a dedicated national defense force separate from the SLDF
Intended to chase down dropships and small warships
More than twenty two thousand tons, which would have been nearly five percent of the vessel's overall mass, was reserved for cargo
Despite the low price tag of the project (4.6 billion) drones were fast becoming cheaper solution for Terran defense

I'll put these through my comparison spreadsheet and see who comes out a winner.
Almost a month . . . so is the spreadsheet still compiling? :)
MA
-
No, I am just being lazy.
-
No, I am just being lazy.
No. Your secret you is secretly preparing the World Cup. ;)
-
That is well in hand.
-
OK, well I finally got my ass into gear and here are the results. Note that my formula for dumbing down ship stats favours firepower and armour, as it was designed to simulate fleet actions, where vessels have to close and engage, so fast designs, not set up for fleet actions tend to be heavily penalized.
That left the rankings as follows:
1 Defender (ATN082268)
2 Apollo (Able)
3 Blacknova (Masterarminas)
4 Resolute (Irose)
5 Alisha (Drakensis)
6 Nova (Takiro)
From a battle line viewpoint, the Defender is the go to, but it is more of a small cruiser than a destroyer. The Apollo was the best balanced design, with the Blacknova, Resolute and Alisha all fairly similar in overall capability, with all four being good Destroyers in differing roles. The Nova, though fast and a true picket, was panned by the conversion.
Based on what I can buy for a set budget and what that gives me in flexibility and firepower over the number of hulls of each class I could buy, they rank:
Apollo (Able)
Aliesha (Drakensis)
Blacknova (Masterarminas)
Defender (ATN082268)
Nova (Takiro)
Resolute (Irose)
So although the Defender is a brute, it is bloody expensive, where as the cheaper Apollo, Aliesha and Blacknova can get me more hulls doing more damage total. the number of Nova's makes them a possible buy based on hull numbers and the Resolute, due to lack of power and highish cost bottoms out.
However, when cost is compared to firepower for series production, the following applies:
Resolute (Irose)
Blacknova (Masterarminas)
Nova (Takiro)
Aliesha (Drakensis)
Apollo (Able)
Defender (ATN082268)
The Resolute's in a group production run will hang with you through numbers and hull strength, with the Blacknova and Nova not far off.
For series production on an all rounder, go for, surprisingly, the Nova. It is cheap, but has enough all round capability to make series production a real option and with that many fast ships all over the shop, it would cause trouble.
Nova (Takiro)
Aliesha (Drakensis)
Apollo (Able)
Blacknova (Masterarminas)
Resolute (Irose)
Defender (ATN082268)
So, if you want a one off brusier, you cant go past the Defender for one on one action or close fleet escort. For series production for a attack vessel, you want the Apollo, and for series on a defensive vessel, go for the Resolute. The Nova is your go to for general series production, either that or my sums are broken as it's an odd bird.
-
I am pleased by how much you liked the Apollo. I liked it, too, given the limitations of the challenge.
-
Nice. Sad that I didn't place higher than 2nd in any category--but c'est la vie. :)
MA
-
To add to my earlier thoughts, if I was to use some of these designs to outfit a fleet, I would do the following.
I would produce them in the following numbers:
Defender 20%
Apollo 35%
Resolute 35%
Nova 10%
Based on their cost/resource allocation, that would give me, for an KU universe spend of 10 000 total
Defender 4
Apollo 12
Resolute 12
Nova 6
What I would do with that is assign the 4 Defenders as close fleet escorts and/or heavy independent defense ships for targets that warrant a WarShip but don't rate a cruiser. I would use the Apollo and Resolute class as the inner fleet picket ring, complementing each other and assign them in 4 ship squadrons. The Nova would act as distant fleet pickets and independent patrol and raiding ships.
-
The Aleisha doesn't stand out I guess.
-
Unfortunately no, not in this one, it gets close, ut does not quite get there in any category.
-
Then I guess it's an excellent compromise!
-
Spoken like a true Capellan.
