Ever since CJvR posted his Canary Interplanetary Bomber I've gotten this small craft bomber in my mind. Before I start a possible challenge for these designs I wanted to have a discussion on their roles.

Shuttle Craft - These small civilian transports carry passengers and cargo, examples; ST-46 Shuttle, S-7A Bus, KR-61 Long-Range Shuttle

Attack Craft - Essentially Super Heavy Aerospace Fighters apparently dubbed Escorts, examples; Aquarius and Lyonesse

Bomber Craft - Dedicated strategic bombers whose sole mission is delivering ordinance to target, what do you think about mine laying?

Scout Craft - The whiskers of a navy are adept at recon missions, equipped with advanced communications and sensor gear, examples; none but like an AWACs

Troop Craft - These personnel carriers fulfill all kinds of different purposes from landing craft capable of transporting infantry to planet (via a paradrop or actual landing) or delivering marine boarding parties in space or conducting search and recovery operations in different enviroments, examples; K-1 DropShuttle

Thoughts??

Hmm..
Think u covered all of the types except maybe the aerospace refueler/tanker version but it could easily fit under one of the already mentioned subclass.

Think theses would add depth to naval small crafts and different craft that might be on a ship.

Just side note might have to make a dropship that carriers tons of small craft for the bomber's Smiley

Yuppers. Grin

Thought about a Refueling Craft but wasn't sure it was a useful niche. However it could be...

I'm currently looking for a better name for the Bomber Craft as it is an ordinance deliver in space (i.e. laying mines) so the name does fit perfectly.

Take a look here for some interesting Small Craft Bombers.

How about Flash or Blast Craft to denote ordinance delivering small craft that either bomb planetary surface or mine the space lanes?

Well I've decided to go with Blast Craft for small craft bombers but it looks as though laying mines might be impractical. Although I've been informed you can bomb in space. Let me know if you have knowledge of rules or any thoughts on this subject. Also I started a thread on this topic over on CBT.

You forgot AWACS craft.  Small craft would love this job because they have enough size to stay out for a respectable amount of time but remain fairly expendable.  Imagine a dozen of these screening your main fleet, would give you plenty of warning about any attacks.  More warning means better response time.

No, I got that Kit under Scout Craft. Many dismiss them because warships can see so far but without any warships or dropships a fighter wing could sure use one. IMO!

Not really sure that AWACS qualify as scout so much.  They also tend to be under command of fighters and focus strongly on communications, ECM, and Counter ECM to jam enemy sensors while keeping friendly sensors clear.

AWAC stands for

Airborne Warning and Control.  Basically a big sensor system either Radar or LDAR with superior communications ability and a senor control officer to keep the Fighter Jocks inline.  Able to step away from the battle and control the fighters for better intercepts able to protect the fleet.  Kinda like a Mech Commander in space.
