Hey folks just was wondering if any one had some idea for setting up a carrier group, looking for some new ideas for force structure, all the ships in the Group will be capable of 4/6 at at the center of the group will be 1 fast carrier and 1 fast battleship, and was wonder what kind of numbers and possibly what class types to use for the escorts. thanks in advance.

...Depends, really. A RL comparison (probably the only sensible one) would be the American model. You might want to research their organizational charts.

From trying to come up with something for my AU, I'd say the carrier would probably be about 1.8 million tons, 4/6, like you say - size and speed have been hallmarks of carriers for a long time. Lots of point-defense, a couple Wings. The FWL Thera class looks fine to me. Maybe a variant of the carrier for the Battleship.

The remainder of the surface combatants would be 5-6 cruisers - Heavy (800,000 - 1,000,000 tons) and Light (700,000 to 750,000). These are the dedicated A-WS ships.

Finally, 5-8 Destroyers - something faster still, maybe 350,000 to 500,000 and 5/8 (or even 6/9). Probably oriented towards EW, point-defense, and anti-DS/small craft/AS fighter armament. Sticks close to the carrier as a last ditch defensive unit or follows the fighter swarm to provide EW support (anti-fighter on one hand, and WarShip C3 for the Cruisers).

I'm not sure what might suffice for a 'attack sub' substitution - maybe a Corvette with a single, long-ranged Naval weapon in each broadside, something to sabre-dance with an opponent. Maybe a DS.

Don't forget the underway replenishment vessels. The US fleet relies on them. Don't forget your own DS and small craft, too - they can provide 'bombers', 'refueling aircraft', and 'EW aircraft'.

...I use small craft as twin-engined fighters - and C3 Master carriers. Nice.

No C3 available either, the force will be a 2750 era tech with some minor enhanced tech, mostly in the form of sub cap missiles to be found on one of the Escort destroyer class's I plan to use.

If I was going with a Canon SL-era Battlegroup I'd probably have:

3 Vincents
3 Lolas, 2 Whirlwind/Davion II
2 Congress
2 Black Lion
2 Aegis, 2 Sovetskii Soyuz
1 McKenna, 1 Texas
2 Volga/Robinson
2 Bug Eye

In effect about 3 Squadrons of ships, fighters are carried on the ships and on DropShips no dedicated carriers - the SL was all about big boom-stick WarShips and lots of them

or you could just take an Enterprise... (assuming they get the engines to work)

On the other hand if I was going with the Classic Davion or Kurita fleets I'd use a Samarkand or New Syrtis Carrier types

My modern Ideal task force ie reborn Star League access to any ship...

Actualy in the Project Beast Clan AU we did get the Big E to work, and had it be a disaster and the ship was supposedly towed to the Asteroid belt for disposal, but was instead towed to a Kepler orbit Asteroid/Yard-base of the 12th SSOG and refitted to it's true form and a battle damaged and derelict Texas hull cosmetically alter to look like the wreck of the Big E. I will post that later, it's the main carrier of the 12th's warfleet.

I never understood 4/6 WarShips.

2/3 or 3/5 is perfect for a cruising speed of 1-1.5 Gs of acceleration, and is more than enough for a capital vessel that doesn't break atmosphere. The only time a high G acceleration is even remotely necessary is if the ship was involved in point-blank combat where there's a (slight) possibility a fired shot "might" miss.

You really want quick acceleration on small craft and vessels that break atmosphere.

I'll elaborate:

1 g = 32.174 feet per second per second.

So after 3600 seconds (1 hour), that's 115,826 feet per second.

That's 21.9 miles per second. which is also 78,970 miles per hour. So, the answer is 78,970 miles per hour per hour.

Canon as far as using canon ships/common use Star League vessels. I'd imagine a true SL group would be a lot bigger but I'm far from my books

lol, the carrier group I am putting together while Star League era is actualy composed of advanced designs for the era, the idea was that while, the star league had to keep consevitive on the budget and build larger numbers of lower cost ships to covor their deployment needs, there was a few smaller fleets that had more specialized for combat designs but was only built in smaller numbers in order to stay within said budgets, my 12th group was such a force so a lot of the ships we have are standard hulls that was gutted and then refitted to a new class, though in some rare cases there is completely new hulls built, but never in large numbers, so when the occasional boondoggle naval wise happens the 12th more often than not gets the ship or ships and then rebuilds them to a new form.

you should use Assault Droppers for the Submarine Substitutes if following the American Carrier Battle Group model. have them strapped to the cruisers a Pueblo for Electronic Warfare and surveilence and a Number of Achilles for shredding fighters and droppers.

Considering no such "carrier" group existedâ€”and given the SLDF's standard deployment of its ASFsâ€”it's a fun speculative topic.

Personally, I like a StarLord group built around a Vengeance, a couple of Titans and three Pentagons. While the Vengeance can't enter the atmosphere, the rest of the group can, so the mix is very versatile.

doable, but want to make a actual warship carrier force, the jeep carriers/jumpships are to easy to work up, this is a personal challenge thing

this isnt set in stone for the Carrier Group/Task Force i was was discussing, please bear in mind even thought this is based in the 1st star League era this a ALT Universe time line and a bit more radical and focused on warships compared to cannon, ie I disregard a lot of the cannon designs and usaly reserve them as transport which they more or less are in the first place with rare exceptions ie like Black Lions or McKenna's and the Lola Class. Still working on the over all designs and fluff(did I mention I hate writing fluff always end up getting writers block!, if any one has ideas to overcome that please share I have a whole lot of stuff to get written) but at least have the class names and names for each of the vessels, also all ships including the support ships are 4/6 or faster. the final organizational chart will also include number of dropships, small craft and fighters assigned to each ship and if i dont burn out to bad I am going to try to go down as far as squadron names for those units along with unit designations for the attached Marine Unit's(pretty much after I am done it will go into the Project Beast Clan source book)
