Clan Goliath Scorpion Aerospace Assets
« on: August 05, 2011, 11:38:09 AM »

I will post the CGS aerospace assets here in this thread, including three aerospace fighters (not Omnifighters), a small craft (aka shuttle), six DropShips (really three, four are simply differing configurations of the same troop transport), and several WarShips and Transports.  Many of these you have seen before, but they have all been reworked to better fit my vision.  Anyway, enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Along with the new Scorpion-series BattleMechs developed by Clan Goliath
Scorpion, the scientist caste was also tasked with delivering three new
aerospace fighters--including a light, a medium, and a heavy to replace
existing Aerospace Fighters and OmniFighters currently in service.  The 35-ton
Comanche was selected as the new Light Aerospace Fighter.

==Capabilities:==
Massing 35-tons, the Comanche uses a powerful 315-rate extra-light fusion
engine to acheive a safe thrust of 5.5-g's and a maximum overthrust of
8.5-g's.  Contrary to normal Clan practice, the scientists who designed the
Comanche incorporated a full size 5-ton internal fuel tank, as well as six
tons of ferro-aluminum armor plating.

Armament consists of a nose-mounted extended-range Large Laser backed up by a
pair of extended-range Medium Lasers (one in each wing).  All three weapons
are tied into a targeting computer to assist in precise fire at extreme
ranges.  To defend against hostile fighters seeking to tail the Comanche, the
designer also added a pair of extended-range Small Lasers firing astern--these
weapons are also tied into the targeting computer.  Eleven double-strength
heat sinks are mounted, giving the Comanche enough heat dissipation capability
to fire all three forward weapons simultaneously without generating excess
overheat.

The Comanche includes seven bays beneath the main fuselage and wings that can
hold external stores.  The lightly armored bays allow the stores to be
retracted inside the Comanche for orbital insertions and reentries, when
normal hardpoint mounted ordnance might well be sheared away.  Acceleration
drops by just 0.5-g's safe thrust with up to five of these being utilized--six
or seven bays results in a drop of 1-g in safe thrust.

==Deployment==
A full Star of Comanches is assigned to every Goliath Scorpion Cluster, and a
Binary to each Naval Star in the toumen (the sole exception being Naval Star
Gamma, which consists of Jenna Scott class surveillance vessels).  These
fighters are tasked with recon flights, long-range interception of hostile
aerospace assets, and light dog-fighters, as well as making formidable light
strike bombers and strafers in ground attack missions.

                    AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout
                                  VALIDATED

Class/Model/Name:  Iroquois
Tech:              Clan / 3050
Vessel Type:       Aerospace Fighter
Rules:             Level 2, Custom design
Rules Set:         AeroTech2

Mass:              50 tons
Length:            16 meters
Power Plant:       350 XL Fusion
Safe Thrust:       9
Maximum Thrust:    14
Armor Type:        Ferro-aluminum
Armament:
    1 ER Large Laser
    4 ER Medium Laser
    1 ER Small Laser
    1 AMS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The second  of the new Scorpion fighters is the 50-ton Iroquois.  This medium
can match the speed of the Batu OmniFighter, but carries additional fuel,
armor, and weapons.  Like the Batu and the new Scorpion Comanche, the Iroquois
incorporates an integral targeting computer allowing for highly accurate fire.
This fighter is the most common of the new Scorpion series.

==Capabilities:==
The Iroquois masses 50-tons, placing it squarely in the medium weight class,
but it also uses a 350-rate extra-light fusion engine for a safe thrust of
4.5-g's and a maximum overthrust of 7-g's.  Nine tons of ferro-aluminum armor
are provided, giving this aerospace fighter protection from thresholding hits
by Inner Sphere Medium Lasers or Clan extended-range Smalll Lasers.

Armament consists of a nose-mounted extrended-range Laser Laser and four
extended-range Medium Lasers, mounted two in each wing.  Sixteen
double-strength heat sinks allow the pilot of this craft to fire all five of
the forward guns without generating any excess overheat.  Rear armament is
actually lighter than that carried aboard the 35-ton Comanche, with just one
extended-range Small Laser providing damaging defensive fire.  However,
instead of the second ER Small of the Comanche, the Iroquois instead mounts an
Anti-Missile System in the tail, posistioned to cover the fighter's stern.
Fed from a magazine containing twenty-four bursts of fire, this system reduces
the effectiveness of hostile missile attacks upon an Iroquois.  All six energy
weapons are tied into the integral targeting computer, giving pilots assigned
to an Iroquois precision targeting capabilities.

Up to ten pods, bombs, heavy missiles, or external fuel tanks can be carried
in retractable bays beneath the fuselage and wings of a Iroquois, although
carrying such a heavy load reduces the fighter's safe thrust to 3.5-g's.
Loading just half of the bays or fewer only reduces the safe thrust to 4-g's.

==Deployment==
Each Goliath Scorpion Cluster is assigned a dozen Iroquois--one full Star of
ten and an additional Point of two in the composite 'stinger' command Star.
Naval Stars (with the exception, once again of Gamma) are provided with two
full Stars of Iroquois for fighter strikes and fleet defense.  Like the
Comamche, the Iroquois is also highly valued for its ability to conduct
bombing and strafing missions against ground targets.

Class/Model/Name:  Cheyenne
Tech:              Clan / 3050
Vessel Type:       Aerospace Fighter
Rules:             Level 2, Custom design
Rules Set:         AeroTech2

Mass:              75 tons
Length:            19 meters
Power Plant:       375 XL Fusion
Safe Thrust:       7
Maximum Thrust:    11
Armor Type:        Ferro-aluminum
Armament:
    2 ER Large Laser
    4 ER Medium Laser
    2 ER Small Laser
    1 AMS
    1 ECM Suite
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The final Aerospace Fighter introduced by the Scorpions was the 75-ton
Cheyenne heavy fighter.  Exceptionally fast for a heavy aerospace fighter, the
Cheyenne nonetheless carried a sizable array of weaponry, alongside the
heatsinks to sustain that firepower, relatively heavy armor protection, and
roughly twice the amount of fuel carried by most Inner Sphere aerospace
fighters.

Impressed by the work of their Scientist caste, the Khans of Goliath Scorpion
have embraced the Cheyenne with great fervor and enthusiasm, as have the
rank-and-file warriors of the Clan.

==Capabilities:==
The Cheyenne is a 75-ton heavy fighter that uses a massive 375-rate
extra-light fusion engine to obtain a safe thrust of 3.5-g's (and an
overthrust of 5.5-g's!).  This is combined with the installation of a ten-ton
(!!) fuel tank and twelve full tons of ferro-aluminum armor protection.

Armament is lighter than that typically seen on Clan fighters, with the
forward array consisting a pair of extended-range Large Lasers in the nose,
four extended-range Medium Lasers in the wings (two per wing), and two
extended-range Small Lasers covering the fighters stern.  However, the
Cheyenne differs from many Clans designs in that it carries sufficient
double-strength heat sinks to fire the entire forward battery without
generating any excess overheat.  Further, all of the lasers are tied into a
targeting computer, making the Cheyenne deadly accurate at all ranges.

Additional equipment includes an Anti-Missile System with 24 bursts of fire
that has been fitted to the tail of the Cheyenne to discourage hostile missile
fire and an ECM Suite that reduces the effectiveness of many offensive systems
on opposistion units.

Fifteen bays are fitted beneath the wings and fuselage for bombs, pods,
missiles, and external fuel tanks, giving the Cheyenne a fearsome ability to
deliver ordnance.  Due to the high thrust of the design, this fighter can
still attain a safe thrust of 2-g's (and an overthrust of 3-g's) even with all
fifteen bays in use!  Reducing the onboard load to ten bays gives the Cheyenne
a safe thrust of 2.5-g's, while just five bays will allow the fighter to
maneuver at 3-g's safely.

==Deployment==
Each Goliath Scorpion Cluster includes a Star of ten Cheyennes, while Alpha,
Beta, and Delta Naval Stars each incorporate a binary of twenty of these
highly lethal aerospace fighters.  The Cheyenne, with its ability to load
large numbers of external ordnance and all energy forward-weapon loadout also
makes a terrifying strike bomber and strafer to carry out attacks on hostile
ground forces.

While the Scorpions may lack an ordnance delivery dump-truck ala the Kirghiz
or Jenghiz, they tend to consider these designs simply too slow, although the
Scorpions do admit these older machines have an incredible amount of space
available for weapon systems.  Still, the Scorpions are pleased with what they
currently have and there are no plans to build a so-called 'super-heavy'
aerospace fighter such as the Jade Falcon Scytha.

==Overview:==
The Caravan is a fairly typical Clan short-range shuttle/small craft.
Although slow and ponderous, it is able to life a full load of 100 tons of
cargo from surface to orbit, or to deliver such a load from the orbit to the
surface instead.  The Caravan includes a three man crew (pilot, copilot,
flight engineer) and is completely unarmed, although the design team
scientists did provide eight-and-a-half tons of ferro-aluminum armor
protection.  The cargo bay can be converted into passenger space fairly
quickly--taking a trained technical crew less than four hours to do so.  This
modification allows the Caravan to haul up to two hundred passengers (with
each passenger taking up space that could store a half-ton of cargo).
However, at a full load of 200 passengers, the shuttle only has sufficient
life support for twelve hours of operations, plus a two hour emergency
reserve.  Normally, the Scorpions limit Caravans in their service to a maximum
of 125 passengers, plus 37.5 tons of cargo, although in any Clan, Caravans are
more likely than not to be pure cargo ships with just a minimum number of
passengers (less than a dozen).

==Overview:==
The Death Dancer is the standard assault DropShip of Clan Goliath Scorpion.
This lethal aerodyne vessel combines armor, acceleration, maneuverability, and
firepower to make a truely spectacular vessel.

Safe thrust is 4.5-g's, while the maximum sustained thrust is an incredible
7-g's.  This DropShip features a heavily reinforced internal structure and
ninety tons of ferro-aluminum armor--giving it nearly as much resistance to
damage as a Clan Congress class frigate!

The nose arc concentrates much of the designs firepower, with four ER Large
Lasers, three LRM-15 launchers with Artemis V FCS (40 triple salvoes), a gauss
rifle (40 shots), two Streak SRM-4s (50 combined salvoes), five ER Medium
Lasers, and five ER Small Lasers.

The other five arcs are slightly less well armed and are indentical to each
other, having the following:  two ER Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers iwth
Artemis IV FCS (40 double salvoes), a gauss rifle (40 shots), two Streak
SRM-4s (50 combined salvoes), three ER Medium Lasers, and three ER Small
Lasers.

The Death Dancer mounts enough double heats to fire the nose arc and four of
the five remaining arcs simultaneously.  Crew consists of three officers, two
crewmen, and fifteen gunners with life support, supplies, and provisions for
ninety days.  Fuel stores are also rated at 90 1-g burn days, although hard
maneuvering will quickly eat through those stores.  Ninety tons of spare parts
are carried, along with a small cargo bay able to hold another 57 tons of
miscellaneous cargo.

                                  VALIDATED

Class/Model/Name:  Scorpion Mk I
Tech:              Clan / 3050
Vessel Type:       Spheroid DropShip
Rules:             Level 2, Custom design
Rules Set:         AeroTech2

Mass:              7,200 tons
Length:            100 meters
Power Plant:       Standard
Safe Thrust:       4
Maximum Thrust:    6
Armor Type:        Ferro-aluminum
Armament:
   18 Streak SRM 6
   24 ER Medium Laser
   30 ER Small Laser
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Scorpion class DropShips were built in order to transport the unique mixed
trinary formations of Clan Goliath Scorpion.  Each Cluster requires five
Scorpions--one Mk I, two Mk II, one Mk III, and one Mk IV--in order to
transport their entire order of battle and several thousand tons of supplies.
Although not intended to serve as dedicated warships, the Scorpion series are
fitted with self-defense weapons and possess a heavy armor shell to protect
both the ship and the Warriors it carries.

All Scorpions have a safe thrust of 2-g's and an emergency overthrust of
3-g's, along with 53.5 tons of ferro-aluminum armor.  Weaponry is identical in
all six arcs of fire, with three Streak SRM-6 launchers (90 salvoes per arc),
four ER Medium Lasers, and five ER Small Lasers.  Enough heat sinks are
mounted to allow all weapons to fire simultaneously.  Fuel and life support
are rated at 90 days, although combat operations will consume both at a
greater pace.

The Mk I is assigned to transport the Command Trinary of a Scorpion
Cluster--or Galaxy.  This vessel carries twelve BattleMechs, two Aerospace
Fighters, and ten Elemental Infantry, plus 981 tons of cargo and up to 8
passengers.  It also has a twenty-five man Cluster Command HQ that operate a
720-ton headquarters built into the Mk I.

The Mk II transports Assault Trinaries of the Cluster.  Each hauls ten
BattleMechs and fifty Elemental Infantry, plus 2,271 tons of cargo and 23
passengers.  Each Cluster has two Mk IIs assigned to it.

The Scorpion Mk III carries a Battle Trinary that is made up of five
BattleMechs, ten Aerospace Fighters, and twenty-five Elemental Infantry.
These boats also carry 1,521 tons of cargo and have space for 13 passengers.

Finally, the Scorpion Mk IV embarks a Striker Trinary consisting of ten
BattleMechs and ten Aerospace Fighters.  Up to 33 passengers can be carried,
but cargo space is limited to just 821 tons.

Warriors of Clan Goliath Scorpion have been impressed by the new
Scorpion-class DropShips--and so have many Adders, Bears, Horses, and Wolfs.
Unlike their BattleMechs and Aerospace Fighters, the Scorpions have received
numerous batchalls for the right to produce these ships by several of the
Clans listed above.

==Overview:==
The Wild Onager is an armed version of the Clan Goliath Scorpion's
merchant-caste Onager-class cargo DropShip.  The Wild Onager (and the Onager)
were built to the exact dimensions as the Inner Sphere Mule-class, but using
Clan technology to gain some tonnage savings.  Most Onagers seen in Clan space
are unarmed, using the excess space to increase their already formidable cargo
space.  Wild Onagers, on the other hand, were specifically built for the Jenna
Scott-class Surveillance ships and function more as Q-ships than true
merchantmen.  A potent array of Clan weapons lie hidden beneath blowout panels
that can transform this innocent looking cargo ship into a deadly assault
platform.  Acceleration is still low, however, but armor protection has been
greatly improved by the incorporation of 36 tons of ferro-aluminum armor.  The
upper cargo bay has been completely replaced by bays for ten Aerospace
Fighters--a full Star.  Two 'cargo' bay doors are available for launch and
recovery operations.  The Wild Onager also carries 25 Elemental Marines for
use in boarding operations--and still retains room for more than 5,600 tons of
cargo.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

==Overview:==
The Clan Tertiary Naval Cache in the outer reaches of the Strana Mechty system
contained all six of the surviving SLDF Naga II class destroyers.  When Clan
Goliath Scorpion began to look at upgrading their fleet in the early 3000s,
they realized that they needed to streamline their logistical needs by
eliminating the multiple different and widely disparate ship classes that made
up their Fleet.  Consultation with the senior Scorpion naval officers and the
scientist caste convinced the Khans that six destroyers, three frigates, and
three heavy battlecruisers (or light battleship, as the case may be) divided
into three Naval Stars of four ships each (one BC, one FF, and a pair of DD)
would be more than adequete in defending their holdings--and prove less costly
in the long run to maintain than their current Fleet of 2 battleships, 3
cruisers, 2 frigates, 4 destroyers, 1 heavy transport, 1 light transport, and
4 troop cruisers.  Further, the naval strategists suggested acquiring the
three near derelict Tracker class surveillance ships, citing their possible
use in iniltrating the Inner Sphere when the time to launch the Invasion
finally came.  If the Ravens could built a fourth Tracker, that would give the
Scorpions four Naval Stars for a total of sixteen ships--smaller, lighter, and
much more effective than their current mismatch of classes.

After long negotiations with the Ravens, the Raven Khans agreed to refurbish
the six existing Naga class ships and all three Trackers that remained in the
Reserve Caches--provided that the Scorpions could convince the Grand Council
to release them.  The Ravens would also construct a fourth Tracker and build
the three frigates and three battlecruisers needed to finish the Scorpion
Fleet; in exchange, the existing Scorpion ships would be transferred to the
Ravens--along with the construction plans for the new Scorpion aerospace
fighters and Death Dancer class assault DropShips.

But the Scorpion Khans were shrewd in their bargining with the Ravens, and
they in turn required that the Raven engineers and scientists refit the old
ships and construct the new ships with cutting edge technology--and the
transfer of the existing Scorpion ships would not occur until Scorpion naval
officers had inspected and agreed to accept each individual ship. Furthermore,
the Scorpions insisted that since the Ravens would have the plans for the new
Death Dancer, they would build sixty of the assault DropShips for the Clan
Goliath Scorpion. The Ravens agreed, so now all that was left was for the
Scorpion Khans to gain the permission of the Khans.

At the next convening of the Grand Council, Khan Djerassi asked for permission
to take the nine old ships from the Naval Cache and refurbish them--as the
large ships of their existing fleet were proving difficult to remain in
fighting trim (a truth, but not the entire truth).  The Smoke Jaguars sensed
that the Scorpions could be attempting to conceal a weakness, and demanded to
know exactly what ships the Clan desired.  When Khan Djerassi began to list
the ancient Nagas, precisely on cue, the Raven saKhan burst out laughing and
asked why anyone would want ships that the Star League had retired a century
before the Amaris Coup?

Joining the Ravens in laughter, the Smoke Jaguar Khans agreed that the
Scorpions could have the 'useless' ships, and although the vote was close, in
the end 18 Khans said aye, with only 16 casting their ballot as nay.  None, at
the time, considered the matter worth of a Trial of Refusal.

==Capabilities:==
In the waning years of the Star League, the SLDF Navy issued a call for a
limited production of destroyers fitted with lithium-fusion batteries.  These
destroyers would serve as escorts for the 'fast wing' of the SLDF Fleet.  At
the time, not one SLDF destroyer mounted LFBs and were able to keep pace with
McKenna class battleships, and Luxor-, Avatar-, and Aegis-class cruisers.
Realizing that little profit lay in investing in such a limited production run
of test ships, the SLDF further authorized the builders to use any available
destroyer in the Reserve Fleet as a test bed.

Only Krester replied with a bid.  Accepted by the SLDF, Krester selected a
dozen Naga-class ships for the project.  These would become the Naga II class
destroyers.  The old ships were extensively overhauled, equipped with transit
drives twice as powerful as the original equipment, lithium-fusion batteries,
and an expanded armament that included a sizable anti-fighter battery.  The
refit took seven years to accomplish, but by the time of the Amaris Coup
fourteen Naga IIs were undergoing tests with the SLDF in the Periphery.  Eight
of these ships were lost before the war ended almost a decade later.  The six
survivors accompanied General Kerensky on the Exodus and were mothballed when
the SLDF discharged the majority of its troops.

During the Pentagon Civil War and Operation Klondike, the Nagas remained
intact, although two were damaged in the fighting; afterwards they remained in
the caches until the Scorpions acquired them in 3004.

The Ravens extensive overhaul took eleven years and fully restored these ships
to their glory.  Structural problems forced the Raven engineers to reduce the
SI by 1/7th, but the use of cutting edge lamellar ferro-carbide prevented any
decrease in armor protection.  The anti-fighter battery was converted to Clan
weapons, and internal spaces were expanded to allow for the Star of Elemental
Marines to freely operate in the main access passageways.  Fighter complement
was reduced to one Star of ten aerospace fighters, and small craft complement
was similary cut to just two Caraven-class shuttles, but the Ravens added one
docking collar as well.  To improve communications, an HPG station was
installed one deck below the CIC, allowing the new Scorpion ships to
communicate across interstellar distances, while the old lithium-fusion
batteries were inspected for damage and restored to near new condition.

Main armament consisted of a NAC-30 naval autocannon in the nose, and seven
NAC-20 naval autocannon in single turrets divided among the remaining seven
arcs.  Six AR-10 Maelstrom capital missile launchers were mounted--two each in
the stern and fore-quarters arcs.  The capital missile systems were given
sixty missiles each, consisting of twenty Killer Whales, twenty White Sharks,
and twenty Barracudas.  Finally, the original armament of three NL-35 naval
lasers and two Light Naval-PPCs in the broadsides and stern quarters was
kept.

Anti-fighter armament consisted of eight identical batteries, one per arc.
Each contained a pair of ER Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers with Artemis IV
(subsequently upgraded to Artemis V when that system became available), a
Gauss Rifle, two Streak SRM-4 launchers, three ER Medium Lasers, and three ER
Small lasers.  Thirteen hundred double strength heat sinks were fitted to the
design, allowing the new-yet-old destroyer to fire all of its weapons
simultaneously.

Fuel stores were expanded to more than 14,000 tons, which gave the Naga III
class the ability to accelerate at 1-g for a standard year.  Of course, combat
maneuvering and the need to provide fuel for its Drop-Ship and aerospace
fighters reduces the maximum duration considerably.  Around 10% of the ships
mass was dedicated to cargo and spare parts as well.  For the sake of the
crew's physical health, two 95-meter diameter grav decks replaced the original
smaller single grav deck of the Naga and Naga II.

The single docking collar was an unusual design located along the belly of the
Naga III.  This docking collar was optimized for the Death Dancer class
Assault DropShip--indeed, the collar cannot accept any other class of ship.
Rather than being held perpindicular to the WarShips compact KF core as
normal, this docking collar featured clamps that locked the DropShip against
the lower hull allowing for full thrust while the DropShip was still docked.

The final product produced by the Ravens was widely hailed by the Scorpion
naval crews (and many Raven engineers) as some of their finest work ever.  The
Naga III proved an outstanding escort and patrol ship, well able to engage any
other Clan covette, destroyer, or frigate and prevail.

==Deployment==
Six Naga III class Destroyers were assigned to Naval Star Alpha, Beta, and
Delta, with each star receiving a pair of destroyers.  These ships operated in
company with the Aurora class Frigates and the Fidelis class Battle Cruisers.
In conjunction, a Scorpion Naval star carried a total of sixty Aerospace
Fighters, ten Death Dancer class Assault DropShips, and 150 Elemental Marines,
and each ship was equipped with lithium-fusion batteries and HPG transmitters.
The destroyers could maneuver at 3-g's, while the frigate and battle cruiser
were still fairly mobile with a maximum accleration of 2.5-g's.  All ships
included a potent anti-fighter battery and a heavy capital anti-ship and
bombardment array.  These Stars proved themselves as vital during their
actions to protect the Scorpion Exodus in 3068.

I forgot to give you the names of the six Naga III class that the Scorps field.  Oops.  Anyway, here they are:

GSS Banshee; GSS Chimera; GSS Fury; GSS Hydra; GSS Incubus; GSS Minotaur

Banshee and Fury are assigned to Naval Star Alpha (Burning Sting Naval Star)
Chimera and Minotaur are assigned to Naval Star Beta (Scorpion's Destiny Naval Star)
Hydra and Incubus are assigned to Naval Star Delta (Striking Claw Naval Star)

I will attempt to do better.

==Overview:==
The three Aurora-class Frigates (GSS Aurora, GSS Corona, and GSS Nimbus) are
some of Clan Goliath Scorpions newest WarShips.  Constructed for the Scorpions
by the Ravens, these ships are some of finest mid-weight combatents ever
constructed, either in the Homeworlds or the Inner Sphere.  Serving as heavy
escort ships for the Fidelis class Battle Cruisers in the Scorpion Naval
Stars, the Auroras are fearsome opponents that can deluge a target with swarms
of missiles.  At closer ranges, extensive batteries of naval autocannon, naval
lasers, naval PPCs, and anti-fighter weapons only increase the devastation
these ships can inflict.

==Capabilities:==
Massing 640,000 tons, the Aurora are not very large ships by WarShip
standards, but they are lethal out of proportion to their size.  Acceleration
is limited to 1.5-g's safe thrust and 2.5-g's maximum overthrust, but this is
on the fast side for traditional escort frigates.  Eight hundred ninety-six
tons of lamellar ferro-carbide armor provides excellent protection to these
vessels, which are also equipped with both lithium-fusion batteries and a HPG
transmitter.

Auroras are capable of accepting up to two DropShips on their ventral docking
collars; however, like the Naga III class Destroyers, these collars are
designed for use only with the Death Dancer class Assault DropShips and cannot
be used with any other type of DropShip.  Ten aerospace fighters and two small
craft round out the parasite complement, while a Star of twenty-five Marine
Elementals provides onboard security for the crew and passengers.

The new frigates features a great of deal of room onboard--especiallly for a
Clan ship.  There are four 95-meter grav decks for the full complement of 420
officers, crew, gunners, pilots, techs, Elementals, and passengers--up to 116
of whom can be accomodated.  64,871 tons of cargo and spare parts have been
provided for, along with 14,228 tons of fuel.

Armament on the Aurora class is fearsome.  Each arc contains multiple
Maelstrom AR-10 capital missile launchers--four in the nose, fore-quarters,
broadsides, and stern-quarters, plus three more firing directly aft.  Each
launcher is equipped with 10 Killer Whale, 10 White Shark, and 10 Barracuda
missiles.  Additional armaments include a NAC-30 naval autocannon in the nose,
a NAC-20 naval autocannon firing astern, and two NAC-20 naval autocannon
posistioned in both the front-right and front-left arcs.  Each NAC has 50
shots provided for it.  The broadsides and stern quarters are equipped with
three NL-55 naval lasers and two Medium Naval-PPCs to finish off the capital
scale weapons.

An extensive anti-fighter secondary battery has also been fitted, with each
arc containing two ER Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers with Artemis IV (40
shots each), a Gauss Rifle (40 shots), two Streak SRM-4 launchers (25 shots
each), three ER Medium Lasers, and three ER Small Lasers.  Eighteen hundred
and eight double-strength heat sinks provide the Auroras with sufficient heat
dissipation to fire all weapons simultaneously.

Overall, the Aurora class Frigates are easily a match for many cruisers
currently in service today and are capable of defeating multiple lighter
ships.

==Deployment==
GSS Aurora is assigned to Naval Star Alpha (The Burning Sting Naval Star)
while Naval Star Beta (Scorpion's Destiny Naval Star) has GSS Nimbus.  Naval
Star Delta (The Striking Claw Naval Star) has been assigned the frigate GSS
Corona.

==Overview:==
The three Fidelis class Battle Cruisers form the heart and soul of the Goliath
Scorpion Fleet.  Smaller than any other major capital ship in use among the
Clans, these vessels are nonetheless powerful foes that should not be
underestimated.  Although the Scorpions refer to these ships as Battle
Cruisers, the Ravens who built them refer to them in their documents as light
battleships--and that is how many among the Clan naval services see them.

==Capabilities:==
The Fidelis class is built on a one million ton hull--two hundred thousand
tons lighter than the Nightlord class battleship.  However, it remains able to
match that older ship (along with the Texas and McKenna class ships) in
acceleration, with 1.5-g's of safe thrust and 2.5-g's of maximum overthrust.
1,600 tons of lamellar ferro-carbide armor gives this ship slightly less armor
protection than the Nightlord and Texas (96.7% versus the Nightlord and 98.4%
versus the Texas), but more than either the McKenna or Leviathan class (134.6%
more than McKenna; 124.6% more than Leviathan).

Like most modern Clan capital ships, GSS Fidelis and her sister ships include
a lithium-fusion battery system and carry an HPG transmitter as standard
equipment.  Up to seven hundred twenty total personnel can be embarked
including two hundred twenty-four passengers (fifty of which are given 1st
class staterooms), seventy-five Elemental Marines, and thirty Aerospace
Fighter pilots.  Supplies are provided to last the full complement for up to a
standard year and four 135-meter diameter grav decks allow ample space for
members of the Clan to experience simulated gravity in deep space.  Space for
cargo and spare parts is an ample 110,000 tons.  Fuel tankage is a massive
25,526 tons of fuel--enough to thrust at 1-g for nearly 646 consecutive days!
However, the Fidelis class does not expect to use that fuel just for its own
operation--most of the fuel is intended to support the six DropShips, six
Small Craft, and thirty Aerospace Fighters carried aboard ship.

The DropShip docking collars use the same type of ventral docking systems seen
on the Naga III class Destroyer and Aurora class Frigate and are designed
specifically for use with the Death Dancer class Assault DropShip.  Combined
with the thirty Aerospace Fighters also embarked, the Death Dancers give these
battle cruisers an exceptional punch at extended ranges beyond those of even
capital scale guns and missiles.

The fore-quarters, broadsides, and stern-quarters arcs each feature an
identical array of quite formidable weaponry:  four Medium Naval-PPC, four
NL-55 Naval Lasers, two NAC-20 Naval Autocannon (50 shots each),  two ER Large
Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers with Artemis V (40 shots each), one Gauss Rifle
(40 shots), two Streak SRM-4 launchers (25 shots each), three ER Medium
Lasers, and three ER Small Lasers.

The nose arc removes the quad Medium N-PPCs, while the stern arc removes both
the N-PPCs and the quad mounted NL-55 Naval Lasers.  In terms of raw
firepower, the Fidelis mounts a more damaging weapons battery than the
Nightlord, Texas, or Leviathan class ships (106.4%, 123.1%, and 137.0%,
respectively)--but cannot come close to comparing with the McKenna class (with
only 63.7% the total damage capacity of that ancient ship).

Overall, the new Goliath Scorpion Fidelis class ships are an excellent example
of the evolution of the WarShip from an armed transport to a smaller, yet more
lethal and effective, actual ship of war.

==Deployment==
The first vessel of this class (GSS Fidelis) was commissioned into service in
3031 and assigned to Naval Star Alpha (The Burning Sting Naval Star).  Two
years later, GSS Honoris joined Naval Star Beta (Scorpion's Destiny), and then
in 3036, the final ship (GSS Paratus) was assigned to Naval Star Delta (The
Striking Claw Star).

The debut of these ships came close to sparking an all-out war between the
Smoke Jaguars and the Goliath Scorpions.  The Jaguar Khan was dismayed when
the Scorpion Fleet suddenly reemerged as a major force; after the Conclave of
three decades earlier, his predecessor had assumed that the Scorpion naval
strength would wane over time, even with the near useless Naga and Tracker
class ships that they had gained.  But the sudden revelation of the Aurora
class Frigate and Fidelis class Battle Cruiser--plus the discovery of the true
combat capabilites of the Naga III--led the Jaguars to accuse the Scorpion
Khans of having lied to the Grand Council of Clans.

Meeting with a hastily summoned Council of Khans on Strana Mechty, the
Scorpion Khans answered the charges with audio-visual proof from the prior
meeting that they had not lied.  It was true, they asserted, that the Jaguars
had assumed the Scorpions were limiting their naval forces, but that
assumption was wrong--not because of a lie, but because of Jaguar incompetence
in seeking the truth!

At this point, the Jaguar Khan demanded that the Scorpions be abjured for
their tactics and threatened to launch a Trial of Possession for the old ships
in the Scorpion Fleet.  But the Scorpion Khan laughed and then shaking his
sadly told the Jaguar that there no longer any of previous ships in the
Scorpion Fleet--proving the truth of his words in the prior Conclave that the
Scorpions wished to consolidate their ships and reduce their overall strength
of numbers.  The Jaguar Khan grew even angier and berated the Scorpion for
telling an obvious and outright lie--there had been no new ships added to the
Naval Caches, and if they had not been added to the Caches, then clearly the
Scorpions must still have them.

At that point, the Raven Khan stood and addressed the Council, informing them
that in exchange for the construction of the new Scorpion ships, the Ravens
had already received the entireity of the prior Scorpion Fleet--giving them
five battleships in their toumen and more than seventy WarShips in total.
Although the Council was stunned by this sudden revelation, the Raven Khan
proceeded to give the Jaguar Khan a proposal--a trial of Possession for the
Scorpion ships, but he bid two McKenna class, one Texas class, and two
Nightlord class ships as his defending star--with full complements of
OmniFighters and DropShips.  Needless to say, the Jaguar Khan withdrew his
challenge.

Although that Conclave ended without the Scorpions being abjured, it secured
for the Clan the eminity and hatred of a number of powerful Crusader
Clans--the Jaguars not the least among them.  It was soon after this point in
history that Khan Nicolas Djerassi began making preperations for what would
become known as the Scorpion Exodus; although that event woudl not occur for
another three decades.

==Overview:==
When Clan Goliath Scorpion began planning for the Invasion of the Inner Sphere
in the wake of the Dragoon Compromise, one of the major points raised was the
vulnerability of the toumen's transport assets.  Other than the four
Potemkin-class troop cruisers assigned to the Second-line Galaxies, the men
and women of the Scorpion Clusters would in large part rely on relatively weak
and unmaneuverable JumpShips and DropShips.  And even if the Clan decided to
commit its Potemkins to the Invasion, these massive ships simply concentrated
too much transport capacity in a single location.  For conveying a Galaxy,
they were superb--but if the Clan needed to attack four seperate targets with
Clusters simultaneously, it would have to rely on JumpShips for three of those
target systems.

Drawing upon the archives of the Temple of the Nine Muses, Clan scientists and
historians uncovered preliminary schematics for a proposed Troop Corvette
designed in the waning years of the Star League.  Although never constructed,
the plans were over ninety percent complete and presented the template for a
ship able to carry a single Cluster into harm's way.

Although the Khans and the Bloodnamed Council realized it would take many
decades and the allocation of a tremendous amount of resources to build these
ships, it launched the Heartvenom program in late 3005.  By 3057, every
Scorpion Cluster and Command Keshik had received their own Heartvenom class
Transport.

==Capabilities:==
Constructed on a 330,000 ton hull, the Heartvenom class outwardly appears to
be nothing more than a mid-sized corvette.  For such a small vessel, its safe
thrust of 1.5-g's and maximum overthrust of 2.5-g's seems lackluster, but it
exceeds or equals that of other transport ships.  Three hundred thirty tons of
lamellar ferro-carbide armor provide excellent protection to the Heartvenoms
and in some ways compensate for the low acceleration.

Designed to serve as Cluster Transports, each Heartvenom is equipped with six
docking collars--five standard collars and one ventral belly collar that has
been optimized for a Death Dancer class Assault DropShip.  Normally, the
remaining five collars are loaded with various Marks of the Scorpion class
troop carrier DropShips, allowing a single Heartvenom class ship to transport
a full-strength Scorpion Cluster.  In addition to those troops, each
Heartvenom carries a Star of 10 Cheyenne heavy Aerospace Fighters and two
Stars of Marine Elementals.  Nominally under the command of the ship's CO,
this Trinary can be--and has been--used as a reserve force by the Star Colonel
commanding the Cluster.  Unlike most major compact-core ships, the Heartvenom
is commanded by a Star Captain, which gives the Cluster CO overall command of
both the Cluster and transport if there is a disagreement between the two.

14,228 tons of fuel are carried aboard, which is nominally enough to
accelerate at 1-g for a standard year.  However, with all embarked fighters,
small craft, and DropShips drawing from that tankage, and the greater
consumption of fuel during high-g combat maneuvers, the Heartvenom is lucky to
go as long as month before requiring the services of a fuel tanker.  Food and
water provisions, as well as life support, are stocked to allow the maximum
complement of 420 officers, men, and passengers to survive for a standard
year.  Four 135-meter diameter grav decks have been fitted to the design,
giving enough additional space to allow the troops being transport to rest and
relax in a spin-gravity envirnoment.

The Heartvenom carries 16,500 tons of spare parts and has an additional 24,737
tons of available cargo space--normally used for additional fuel tankage and
munitions, parts, and equipment required by the Cluster.  Lithium-fusion
batteries are standard on the Heartvenom, along with a HPG transmitter.  Like
the Scorpion Mk I DropShip, the Heartvenom has been fitted with a Cluster
Command HQ that coordinates Cluster operations on the planet below.  Unique to
the Heartvenom class is a dedicated satellite launch bay containing eighty
satellites.  Each satellite serves as a combination communications, weather,
and surveillance satellite, with sixteen normally required for full planetary
coverage.

Armament is rather limited, but includes a signficant anti-fighter battery,
plus light anti-ship capital weapons.  The nose, stern, and both the
fore-quarters and stern-quarters carry an identical battery of four NL-35
Naval Lasers, two ER Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers with Artemis V (40
shots each), a Gauss Rifle (40 shots), two Streak SRM-4 launchers (25 shots
each), three ER Medium Lasers, and three ER Small Lasers.

The broadsides arcs remove the quad naval laser mount, but retain the
anti-fighter/secondary battery weapons.  However, these two firing arcs both
include a very nasty surprise for anyone attempt to close on a Heartvenom--a
NAC-40 Naval Autocannon with 50 shots.  Able to gut many DropShips with just a
single shot, these massive weapons tend for force opponents to keep their
range, reducing the effectiveness of their own weapon systems accordingly.

One thousand and seven double-strength heat sinks are fitted to the engines,
allowing the Heartvenom to fire all weapons without generating any excess
overheat.  Although many critics of the design consider the Heartvenom
undergunned, they dismiss the thirty-two Aerospace Fighters, five Scorpion
class DropShips, and one Death Dancer class DropShip that are part of its
standard complement.  In addition, these critics appear to be thinking that
the Heartvenom is intended to stand in battle against enemy WarShips--but it
is not.  The Heartvenom was built for one purpose, and one purpose only:  to
safely get a Cluster from the jump-point to orbit and then provide any needed
support.  And that is a job that these ships are able to accomplish with
acclaim.

==Deployment==
All thirty Clusters--including the Clan Command Keshik--and six Galaxy Command
Keshiks are each assigned one Heartvenom class Transport Corvette.  This gives
Clan Goliath Scorpion a total of thirty-six transports.  Upon accepting these
ships, the Scorpions began to retire their older JumpShips, either placing
them in mothballs, transferring them to the Scorpion Merchant caste, or
selling them off to other Clans in exchange for needed resources.

As of just prior to the Scorpion Exodus, the Clan retained twelve
Monolith-class, twenty-eight Star Lord-class, and nine Scout-class JumpShips
mothballed in the Roche system, plus thirty-one Odyssey-class, thirty-three
Invader-class, and thirty-six Merchant-class JumpShips on active duty with the
Merchant Caste, for a total of 149 JumpShips (plus 36 Troop Corvettes and 16
WarShips).

This gave the Clan a total of 580 docking collars among its civilian
fleet--enough to accomodate the 304 Onager-class DropShips (based on the Mule)
and 276 Mastodon-class DropShips (based on the Mammoth).  The Mastodons are
predominately found in the Reserve, with only eleven serving on active
duty--Onagers are the normally encountered civilian DropShip.

During the dark days of the Scorpion Exodus, the Scorpion Civilian Fleet was
able to evacuate more than 1.1 million members of the civilian caste, along
with nearly 3.9 million tons of equipment and supplies.  Contingency plans
written decades before allowed the Scorpions to rapidly embark carefully
selected members of all castes and depart within weeks of the order being
issued by Khan Suvorov.  Prefabricated factory modules and computer data-cores
containing the total sum of Clan knowledge (at least, that available to Clan
Goliath Scorpion) were also loaded, giving the Clan the chance to one day rise
again in their new home--the Scorpion Expanses.

==Overview:==
"THAT junked-out Merchant is what your people sent for you?" Cortez exclaimed
into the silence that had descended onto the bridge of the Dragoon's Overlord
as the battered old JumpShip had entered the viewing ports.  He barked out a
burst of laughter, while many of the other Dragoons looked away quietly.  "For
such a Very Important Personage as yourself, Scorpion, this is the best your
Clan can do?"

Jason gazed out through the viewing port with his hands crossed behind his
back, the DropShips acceleration providing enough pseudo-gravity that he did
not have to worry about free-floating in zero-g.  And then he turned to face
the environmental systems tech.

"Appearances can be deceptive, Mister Cortez.  And considering that my
mission, the second half of my mission, that is, will take me deeper into the
Inner Sphere, would it not be appropriate to use a ship which does not appear
out of place among the free-traders and general mercantile traffic?  GSS Jenna
Scott may not look like much, gentlemen, but she is far more than she appears
to be."

The Dragoon commanding Artemis nodded in agreement.  "Just a run-of-the-mill
Merchant class, eh, Cortez?  Nothing special, right?  Well, Mister, you just
go on believing that, along with everyone else that picks her up on sensors."

The old, white-haired man who had once lived in the Homeworlds turned to face
Jason.  "Which one was she, sir?"

"Pathfinder, Captain Humphrey.  And she has an entirely new kit-bag of tricks
to add to her arsenal as well, including a lithium-fusion battery and a
hyper-pulse generator station.  Her guns have been rather thoroughly updated
and expanded, giving her more firepower than an old Vigilant-class corvette,
and her armor replaced with the latest generation of lamellar ferro-carbide.
But for all intents and purposes, she still looks, and appears on sensor
arrays, as an early-flight Merchant class; making her ideal for my purposes."

"You can't squeeze all of that into a Merchant, I don't care whether you are
Clan or not.  It won't physically fit," sneered Cortez.

"If you will recall, Mister Cortez," replied Jason, "I never said she was a
Merchant class ship; you did."

As Cortez opened his mouth again, Humphrey spoke up, "Stow it Pieter.  That is
something I never, in all my days, expected to ever see again; certainly not
in active service; a Tracker class WarShip."

Someone whistled as the bridge went quiet.  "Skip, are you sure?  I mean,
there haven't been any of those around since the early 2600's?" asked one of
the Dragoon fighter pilots.

"Sure I'm sure, Garnier.  First assignment I ever had as a Wolf free-born
warrior was in the Clan Naval Depot.  I spent almost a year doing nothing but
watching over a whole bunch of moth-balled ships floating in space, just in
case the Dark Caste managed to find them.  There were three Trackers in the
Exodus fleet, but they look so much like a Merchant I'm not surprised people
got confused.  I have no idea how they ended up there, though."

Jason smiled.  "It was a matter of bureaucratic confusion.  Pathfinder,
Ranger, and Viking wound up moth-balled in the SLDF Alula Australis Naval
Reserve Depot after the Reunification Wars.  They were supposed to be assigned
to the Graham Depot for disposal and the paperwork got bungled.  SLDF Naval
Headquarters had copies of the original order for disposal of three Trackers
at Graham, and an acknowledgement from the Graham Depot that there were no
longer any more of that class in the Reserve.  Not that they had disposed of
them, mind you, but that they did not have any to dispose of.  Some bureaucrat
on first on Keid and then on Earth misread the communication and marked the
ships off the naval rolls.  From that point forward, as far as the bureaucracy
was concerned, the three ships at Alula Australis simply did not exist.  By
2685, the Depot commanders there had quit even trying to correct the snafu and
placed the ships in the trailing Trojan orbit behind the gas giant Vermillion.
And there they sat until the Usurper overthrew the Star League and killed
Richard Cameron."

"The Rim Worlds Navy considered putting them back into active service during
the Amaris Coup, but they had their hands full with the rest of the Reserve,
and Trackers were far too lightly-armed and armored to garner much attention.
So they remained untouched up to the Exodus, when the Great Father's staff
found them still floating in orbit.  He needed every ship he could get his
hands on, so they came with us on the Exodus; after which they were promptly
mothballed once more, this time in the Clan Homeworlds."

"At least until we dispatched the Dragoon's on their recon mission, Captain
Humphrey.  That same year, Khan Djerassi of my Clan petitioned the Grand
Council for permission to reactivate the ships; the other Khans considered
them almost worthless as WarShips, so he got them.  We rebuilt them, or rather
had the Ravens rebuild them, and ever since they have quietly served in our
Toumen, along with a fourth ship that the Ravens built new for us.  We of the
Clans do always advertise when we are around, after all."

Humphrey snorted.  "I know better, so do MOST of the original Dragoons, but
you would think the rest of the Inner Sphere would be concerned over that
prospect."

"With the exception of your former Clan, Captain, those involved in the
Invasion were not overly concerned with concealing who and what they were.
Even the Wolves in the end threw away any attempt to use surveillance and
recon, relying instead upon their agreement with ComStar.  I would suspect
that beside the Scorpions, perhaps only the Adders would have used such
assets.  To the rest, it too closely resembles a deliberate lie."

The Scorpion Star Captain turned to face his bondsman squarely.  "What is the
difference here, Bondsman Lucien?"

The former Falcon warrior straightened in response to the direct question as
he considered it carefully.  "Star Captain, the difference is that we are not
telling a lie:  directly that is," he frowned as he considered his words.
Thinking like a Scorpion was so much different from his previous life!  "We do
not make any statement one way or the other on the matter; if our opponent
fails to see what is before him, is that our fault?"

"Most correct, Bondsman Lucien," Jason said with a grin.  "Though some of the
Clans of Kerensky would consider it a lie of omission, it is not a lie of
commission; and thus, to the Scorpions not a lie at all.  There before us
floats GSS Jenna Scott, and if you can not see clearly enough to realize she
is more than she appears, why then that is your own fault and not ours.  Which
is the reason that the Scorpion trains our Warriors to see and to understand
all that which surrounds them; to question even the most innocuous event;
things are not always as they appear to be."

"Captain Humphrey, on behalf of my Khan and my Clan, and for myself as well, I
thank you, Sir, for the voyage both to Outreach and back.  You are a credit to
the Dragoon's and to the Clans."

The old man nodded solemnly.  "It was a pleasure, Star Captain Scott.  Good
luck and good hunting, Sir."

"Well, then, Bondsman Lucien, shall we prepare to transfer between ships?"

==Capabilities:==
Shortly after General Kerensky announced his plans for the Exodus of the SLDF
from the Inner Sphere, his staff ordered an immediate survey of all available
vessels.  Knowing that they would need as many ships as possible to carry the
departing forces, the General's survey teams scoured every site of each SLDF
Naval Depot searching for JumpShips and WarShips that could be used.

At Alula Australis, one of the teams struck paydirt.  Parked in a stable orbit
at the Trojan point 'forward' of one of the systems gas giants, the team found
three ships remaining in the depot.  Long ago scheduled to be broken up for
salvage, somehow the vast Star League bureaucracy had managed to misplace the
records of three Tracker class Surveillance ships.

Launched during the early days of the Terran Hegemony, these ships were
hopelessly obsolete, fragile, and ill-armed.  BUT, each could carry over
20,000 tons of cargo and two DropShips.  Not really expecting the ancient
ships to function, the survey team was surprised when they rebooted the
central ships computer and lit the fusion power plants.

After almost two centuries of sleep, each of the three ships (Pathfinder,
Scout, and Viking) was still fully functional.  Once new software was
installed and their electronics recalibrated--and a quick inspection of the KF
Drive Core completed--all three were approved for inclusion in the Exodus
Fleet.

More than two years later, after arriving in the Pentagon, the Trackers were
among the first ships to be demobilized and stored in orbital caches.  During
the Civil War and Second Exodus, these ships once again slumbered, ignored by
all parties as various Warlords grabbed far more effective and intimidating
vessels.

Operation Klondike brought the newly formed Clans back to the Pentagon,
defeating the Warlords and incorporating those worlds into Clan society.  The
surviving WarShips of the orbital Caches were divided up among the Clans and
taken to a secret depot system.  There they would remain until the ilKhan
authorized a Clan to claim them.

Woken for mere months to be moved to the depot Cache, once again the Trackers
were almost scrapped.  Nicolas Kerensky had prepared the order for their
dismantling, but he had not yet signed it when Khan Stephen Cage requested an
audience.

Although the clandestine surveillance ships were deemed as
dezgra--dishonorable--in Nicolas's new society and culture, he argued that to
destroy the ships now, just as the Clans had begun to recover from the Civil
War and Klondike--when there were still few facilities to produce NEW
ships--was wasteful of resources.  And despite the fact that the ilKhan
disliked their initial purpose, was it not true that these relics had served
the Clans well in conveying men and material on the Exodus Road?

Swayed by Cage's argument, Nicolas relented and allowed the Trackers to be
mothballed again.  There they stayed for over seventeen decades, forgotten.

In 3002, the Khan of Clan Goliath Scorpion placed a request before the Grand
Council.  Because of the Dragoon Compromise, the Scorpions wished to begin
preparations for when the expedition reported back.  She requested three
vessels in the Naval Depot:  the Trackers.

Not overly concerned with such small ships--slightly more than a quarter the
size of a Vincent--the Council gave her permission without debate.  She then
went to the Khans of Snow Raven and convinced them--for a high price in
resources--to rebuild the ancient ships into formidable opponents.  In
addition, the Scorpions purchased a fourth new built ship of the class as
well.

Retaining the clandestine systems that had made them so effective, along with
the general hull outline of an early-flight Merchant class JumpShip, the
refitted vessels were transformed over the next decade into highly effective
and capable recon vessels, at the expense of cargo space.

Fuel tankage was increased radically, and ship corridors widened to allow for
the use of Elemental marines, a full Star of which could be embarked.  No
fighter bays were added, an extensive anti-fighter battery was deployed
covering all arcs in concealed weapons mounts.  For protection against assault
DropShips and light WarShips, the engineering teams conducting the overhaul
added five NAC-10 Naval Autocannon (each with 30 shots) and two NL-35 Naval
Lasers.  The NACs were positioned in the nose, the fore-quarters, and
stern-quarters, while the Naval Lasers were fixed astern.

Both docking collars were retained as well, but the Ravens installed a
Lithium-Fusion Battery as well as a standard HPG station.  Using the most
modern equipment possible, a two-thousand ton surveillance system was
installed, manned by a dedicated crew of 15 scientists and techs.  The final
result was a surveillance and clandestine operations vessel second to none,
with a jump signature and general hull profile that was nearly identical to
standard Inner Sphere Merchant class JumpShips.  Even Clan sensors had great
difficulty in detecting the difference between these new Trackers and civilian
merchant ships.

Renamed the Jenna Scott class, the three ships quietly vanished from the
Scorpion naval list after just two decades.  The other Clans presumed that the
Scorpions--after having wasted tremendous amounts of resources on the
vessels--had admitted their mistake, and not wishing to make it public had
quietly mothballed the ships in a distant part of Clan space.

That was not the case.

Between 3034 and 3048, GSS Jenna Scott, GSS Ethan Moreau, GSS Cyrus Elam, and
GSS Naomi Djerassi undertook their own recon mission along the edges of the
Inner Sphere.  Collecting data on the Inner Sphere and Periphery militaries,
the Scorpions were soon second only to the Wolf's Dragoons in their knowledge
of events in the Inner Sphere; and after the Dragoon's stopped sending forward
their reports, the only informed source on the Inner Sphere in Clan space.

After the Outbound Light was captured by the Jaguars and Operation Revival
debated, Khan Djerassi recalled the four ships, as it would be inconvenient
(to say the least) if their activities were discovered.  The Khan did attempt
to convince the Khans of the invading Clans to rethink their strategy and
bids, but only Ulric Kerensky of Clan Wolf seriously listened.

Following the debacle at Tukayyid, the Scorpions once more brought the Scotts
back into service; this time serving as transports for Seeker expeditions into
the Inner Sphere.  Once again, the Khans of Goliath Scorpion failed to inform
the Grand Council of their activities.

As Khan Ariel Suvorov is rumored to have said to saKhan Nelson Elam, 'If they
are so blind as to not see what we are doing, how in the name of the Great
Father do they expect to predict what the Inner Sphere is doing?'

Although they are not intended for combat, the Scorpions have sought to make
these grey ghosts more than able to defend themselves against the majority of
threats.  Indeed, the few Inner Sphere agents who have closely observed these
ships have prepared briefs for various House Lords entitled The Clan Q-Ship
Threat.  Although the Scorpions have not used these ships for that specific
type of mission, it does remain a distinct possibility in the future that the
Jenna Scotts will dispatched on various combat missions in addition to their
surveillance duties.

==Deployment==
GSS Jenna Scott, GSS Ethan Moreau, GSS Cyrus Elam, and GSS Naomi Djerassi are
all assigned to Naval Star Gamma (The Hidden Scorpions).  However, these ships
only seldom function as a discrete unit.  Rather, the individual vessels often
operate independently, with a pair of Wild Onager class DropShips serving as
their escorts and carrying additional supplies and fuel.  Khan Suvorov uses
these ships and their long-duration missions to relieve the Clan of various
problem children.  Warriors that are unable or unwilling to cooperate with
other Scorpions, or who constantly show disrespect for their fellow
nest-mates, will be stationed aboard one of these cramped ships for a year, or
two, or even three if necessary.  Here, with little but time on his or hands,
the malcontent can be given the personal attention of the ship's
commander--and the onboard Elemental contingent.  Usually, this manages to
correct the problem within a few weeks--months at the outside.  But some
incorrigable characters have been assigned to the Jenna Scotts for the better
part of their careers.  A handful of these have even expressed a preference
for the long, quiet surviellance missions and the absence of the other Clans.
