Overview:
During the Jihad, the Taurian Concordat acquired a Quixote class warship from their Word of Blake allies.  Used to conduct nuclear attacks against the Federated Suns, the ship became a bone of contention between the Federated Suns and the Taurian Concordat during peace negotiations.  Ultimately an arrangement was made where the Vendetta was turned over to the Calderon Protectorate, which renamed the vessel the CPS Redemption.  Put into service conducting anti-piracy patrols, the ship proved to be both a boon and a bane to the Protectorate.  While the ship proved instrumental in detering pirate attacks against the young nation, it was proving very difficult to maintain due a lack of adequete facilities.  The solution to the problem presented itself in 3086, when the Diamond Sharks contacted the Protectorate.  The Sharks offered to provide maintenance support for the vessel in exchange for exclusive distribution rights to a number of valuable medical compounds found on Lastpost.  After a long and drawn out negoitation, the 2 sides reached an agreement.  The Sharks would get exclusive rights to distribute any medical compounds found on Lastpost and in exchange they would not only provide techniclal support for the Redemption, but they would also upgrade the ship and improve it’s capabilities. As Protectorate officials were unwilling to allow the ship to travel to a Diamond Shark drydock, the changes were limited to those that could be preformed locally.  The upgrade took almost 3 years to complete, with the modified Redemption returning to service in 3094.

Capabilities:
The CPS Redemption has been used to help deter pirates from raiding Protectorate worlds.  As a result the main opposition the ship faces is pirate dropships and aerospace fighters.  It was for these reasons that the Protectorate naval officers chose to emphasis improvements that would make the ship more effective against fighters and dropships, rather then worrying about improving its abilitiy to deal with Warships.

One of the glaring weaknesses of the ship was its lack of anti-fighter weaponry.  While the ships many Barracuda tubes work well against fighters, many years of experience had proven that they were not a substitute for a well rounded fighter defense.  The Diamond Shark technicians found a very simple solution to this problem.  Using SLDF plans for the Volga Transport, which was built on the Quixote hull.  The Redemption was retrofitted with a number of laser and particle cannon turrets similar to those of the Volga. To deal with the increased heat output of these weapons, the Diamond Sharks replaced the ships conventional heatsinks with double strength models.

The other major change involved reconfiguring some of the Redemption’s cavernous cargo bays in to aerospace bays.  The Quixote’s 12 fighter bays were considered woefully insufficent on the modern battlefields, while the hugh cargo bays were considered excessive.  The Redemption was modified to carry 3 Air Divisions, totalling 72 aerospace fighters. Typically the Redemption carries 1 Heavy Attack Division and 2 Light Strike Divisions.

Supplementing the fighters are bays for 24 small craft. The small craft bays typically carry a mix of recon shuttles and assault boarding ships.  The Redemption has room for nearly a full battalion of marines, all of who are specially traing for conduct boarding operations.

To meet the maintenance requirements of so many planes, the Redemption was modifed to carry a large number of pilots and technical crew.  With space for 1000 passengers, there is no shortage of support personnel to keep the ships fighters flying.  One of the major complaints about the modified Redemption is the lack of sufficient life boats for the ship.  While the Diamond Sharks were willing to add additional life boats, it would have put the Redemption out of serivce for at least a year.

Deployment:
The Redemption has spent much of the last decade traveling amoung the worlds of the Protetcorate.  The precesance of such a powerful detereant has sent pirates after easier targets.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.
