RWS Alaska

    3 Medium NPPC
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Intended to be a new breed of battlecruiser, the six Alaska class vessels were
still under construction when the Amaris Coup captured Terra and the Titan
Shipyards.  Amaris engineers managed to rush the first two ships into service
fast enough to participate in the 2nd Battle of Asta, but both vessels were
lost in that engagement.  The remaining four ships were completed and served
with Amaris's Fleet during the Battle of Terra in 2770.  All four were lost
with all hands during the engagement.

==Capabilities:==
Massing 1,200,000 metric tons, the Alaska class were intended to be heavily
armored ships that were less expensive than a McKenna class battleship, but
could still overawe any WarShip of the Great Houses.  The class included
lithium-fusion batteries and more than 1,600 tons of lamellar ferro-carbide
armor plating, but their close-in defensive systems were still woefully
inadequete (which the DCA and SLDF fighter Corps proved time and again during
the Coup).  In their defense, all SLDF WarShips of the time lacked a
substantial battery of secondaries, relying instead on interlocking capital
missile fire to deter enemy fighters.  In large squadrons, task groups, and
fleets, this tactic worked well, but against individual ships in fleets that
did not train to use those defensive tactics, the lack of secondary weapons
proved a major disadvantage.

The majority of an Alaska-class vessels firepower was concentrated along the
flanks, with each arc mounting three AR-10 Maelstrom missile launchers (10
Barracuda, 10 White Shark, and 10 Killer Whale missiles each), six Heavy Naval
PPCs, and two NAC-20 naval autocannons (50 shots each).  Three Heavy Naval
PPCs were mounted in the nose, while three Medium Naval PPCs covered the
stern.

Cargo and fuel were average for late-generation SLDF vessels, and the Alaskas
could embark up to six DropShips on their docking collars.  Eighteen aerospace
fighters and six small craft could be embarked as well, typically consisting
of Rapier heavy ASF and Aries class shuttles.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
RWS Alaska, RWS Hawaii, RWS Puerto Rico, RWS Guam, RWS Samoa, RWS Phillipine
Islands

==Deployment==
All completed Alaska class vessels served in the Rim Worlds Republic Naval
Forces--each was lost fighting against the very SLDF that had designed and
built them.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Each chased the Ice Hellion, hunting it down.
All failed to match the predator's speed and grace.
Khan Cage smiled and said, "And that is how we shall be."
