Area 51 Shipyards applauds, DiTron's multi win contracts, if they fill that their shipyard capacity is over strained, Area 51 is willing to be a subcontractor as at this time the Warspite class is only consuming 30 percent of our total capacity for the military. ;)

In truth the Dart II is really a Troop Cruiser cunningly mislabeled as a Frigate.

I wouldn't be surprised if the SLDF quietly drops the Dart II as a Frigate and simply switches it to being one its workhorse Troop Cruisers.

the Lioness Desing Group congratulates Di Tron, and assures the Admiralty that it believes in not only the St Louis Frigate, but the Dual use Hull.  Given the right resources we will be more then happy to redesign for extended tours.

And just to show we was serious from Area 51 when we said we could reduce the cost on our HC entry to match or slightly beat the other entry in that catagory with out sacrificing armor or weapons, we submit our budget version for consideration a limited production model to act as a supplement not a replacement to the Fort. Same thing for Crusader BC, with improved Flag Quarters taking a lessen from our Warspite class BB. (PS These remods our for my own peace of mind to see if I could actually get them to the earlier requirement.)

==Overview:==
The Southern Rim Republic was a small nation but one blessed with fertile
worlds and natural resources, but the number of such worlds was limited in
comparison to its larger and more powerful neighbor to the North, The
Sovereign League. Yet the SRR was not daunted or intimidated by this fact and
went about designing a light cruiser that would fulfill the defense
requirements of the SRR, instead of trying to match the leviathans that the
Sovereign League fielded for its navy and also limited in the size of the
warship they could build due to shipyard constraints.  Due to its operating
characteristics the Nome is used in many roles in the SRR, ranging from border
patrols to convoy escort duty.

Category F. Destroyer as general purpose vessel

The requirements were low cost for mass production, diverse capabilities.
There were six submissions making this one of the most contested categories: Naga II, Peterson, Kansas City, Graf Spee, Pioneer, Lola III Mk XV

Individual Reviews

Having won the role of light cruiser, the Naga II was also put forward as the new destroyer for the SLDF. Fast and tough, it raised the possibility of saving costs by eliminating the need for a separate design but the Lithium-Fusion battery inflated the cost.

The Peterson compared well against the Naga II with a stronger armament of naval autocannon, but on first view it failed to stand out.

Smaller than the previous submissions, the Kansas City was also slower but it sported an impressive close range battery of autocannon and designers pointed to large cargo holds and a favourable price tag. The armour was a concern for an intended in-fighter.

Mitchell Vehicles' Graf Spee was considered an outside contender due to its bulk, but the heavy destroyer was respectably armed and carried substantial cargo and two full wings of aerospace fighters.

The Pioneer was compact and lacked the cargo space and defenses of most of its rivals. However, it had the most dropship collars and a very sophisticated electronics suite.

A revision of the classic Lola III, the Mk XV was a classic SLDF destroyer with no dropship collars and only moderate armament.  This made it highly affordable and would limit the need for re-training of crews.

Final Decision

On grounds of expense, the committee decided to eliminate the Pioneer and the Naga II, by rejecting all designs costing more than $4bn per unit. Further reflection eliminated the Peterson as the cargo bays were considered inadequate for a ship that would require flexibility. After considering the balance between the three remaining designs it was decided that Kansas City was simply too lightly protected,

The contest came down to the fast but lightly armed Lola III versus the slower but far more deadly Graf Spee. The arguement in favour of the Lola III was that it was only a little more than half the cost, so any lack of firepower could be made up by ship numbers. The lack of dropship collars followed existing SLDF doctrine, but eventually the committee decided in favour of the more radical and hopefully more survivable Graf Spee. Boeing Interstellar were offered a limited production run of the Mk XV Lola III to provide numbers in the short term.

I entered the design as a tribute to the WWII Graf Spee Armored Cruiser, if I knew it was considered that solid maybe I should have entered the 880K version for the light cruiser class, no real changes to the design other than a bigger hull to allow for the 4/6 propulsion oh and had a 4.4 billion price tag ;)

I don't think I can over-state how close a call it was between the Lola Mk XV and the Graf Spee. I expect Boeing will also be rebuilding damaged Lola destroyers to the Mk XV standard.

Category G: Light Carrier for use in patrol and escort roles.
The requirements were a 4/6 thrust, low cost for mass production, good endurance, anti-dropship and anti-fighter firepower important, should carry at least 60 ASF.
Submitted for consideration were Iron Eagle, Lola IV, Leonidas, Obelisk, Lola III

Individual Reviews

The Iron Eagle came in with a little more mass than the committee had envisaged but it provided excellent anti-fighter firepower, a solid array of capital missile launchers and good protection. With space aboard for a reinforced aerospace regiment and 80,000 tons of cargo space there were certainly no complaints from the 'fighter mafia' on the technical front.

Boeing Interstellar came in with a smaller candidate, based on the famously adaptable Lola-class destroyer hull. Defended with naval lasers and capital missiles the result was still respectably supplied for sixty onboard fighters.

The Leonidas was presented with an attractive price tag compared to the earlier submissions and a well-compartmentalised flight deck won good reviews. The light armour was a concern for some of the commitee but the rebuttal was made that it would discourage crews from sending the carrier into close encounters it was not intended for.

Federated Boeing's Obelisk class was extraordinarily compact for its capability, a staggering two onboard fighter regiments. There was concern however that in an extended campaign the onboard supplies might not be sufficient. The expense of a LFB was also questioned.

A second Lola adaption, closer to the Lola III, from Boeing Interstellar matched the Obelisk's onboard wing and managed slightly more cargo space, slightly more fuel and slightly more protection - although as some pointed out, with half again the tonnage that shouldn't be hard. It also had considerably better accomodation for the crew quarters.

Final Decision

The financial demands of rebuilding the SLN drove the committee to reject all designs costing more than $4bn per unit. This immediately reduced the field to the Leonidas and the Lola III. The two ships sported comparable armour and armament. The Leonidas edged out the Lola III for cargo space and also for ease of resupply via dropship which finally tipped the balance in favour of the smaller design.

No doubt about that mate, I see the Graf spee being a dedicated combat ship with the fleets or even being assigned to be extra heavy escorts for some of the older ships. heck the GS would make a awesome escort for a Black  Lion or ships that match its speed, if i was to say anything gthe GS is like a Mastif big and powerfull for its size but not a grayhound like the other DD's.

Even with contracts to pump out a small batch of new Lola III's, and of course updating the SLDF's surviving Lola III's to the Mk XV standard Boeing Interstellar was being left out in the cold for ongoing SLDF contracts.

Despite bitter protests that the new designs would require substantial work up time to set up for production versus the ease at which Boeing could switch to the upgraded Lola III, Boeing has come to accept the new reality.

In light of this Boeing Interstellar has revisited its Lola III CV design for export purposes outside the Terran Hegemony.  Permission to export the revised design has begun to wind its way through the decision makers of the SLDF and TH.

The tweaked design started by dropping the second regiment, the second battery of large pulse lasers in every arc, and the armor down to improved ferro-aluminum.  The extra heat sinks included with an eye to allowing extended firing of the AMS and point defense were pruned back as well.

On the flip side Boeing crammed in even more crew quarters allowing the Lola CV to carry two full crews of pilots and techs (including 6 Assistant Techs) for every ASF and small craft carried aboard.  The naval lasers were upgraded to NL 55's from the 45's to interest purchasers.

Using some of the freed up tonnage and space was a fully equipped machine shop with its own dedicated cargo space.  This was included as a feature to ensure the Lola III was able of 'living off the land' as it were during extended campaigns away from extensive material support, or when supply lines were stretched.

Or Boeing's officials noted with a wink, the said space dedicated to the machine shop could quiet easily be altered to fit the needs of clients, including quarters fit for the grandest admiral.
