---Overview---
In the third decade of the 31st century the Magistracy reacted to the increasing threats by resolving to build a navy that could keep as many threats as possible away from their worlds. Part of this plan was a pair of heavy assault dropships. The Minerva was designed as an attack vessel to act as the vanguard of a warfleet or a transport flotilla.

---Capabilities---
The Minerva is not, and does not purport to be, a complicated vessel. It uses very little advanced technology: mass production of advanced heatsinks and weapons has not yet reached the Magistracy of Canopus and a ship-building programme would demand far more than could be provided so the design uses standard hardware.

The armament is an impressive array of particle cannon, predominantly directed forwards. The multiple weapon bays provide options of spreading fire across multiple targets or delivering crushing barrages on an individual enemy: this is mostly reserved for dropships as even a single bay can kill or cripple most fighters and small craft almost instantly.

The Minerva is also possessed of respectable manuverability: not as much as the Achilles or Avenger, but still sporting a solid 1.5 G advantage over most dropships and able to keep pace with most medium and heavy fighters. To ensure it survives being on the leading edge of an advance, the ship is heavily armoured, with the layers of standard armour heaviest towards the bow.

The tradeoff is a lack of other capabilities: the Minerva can carry fighters only in its small shuttle bay and has only a small crew, which can leave it vulnerable to boarding actions. It also lacks missile defense, which can leave it vulnerable to attacks from outside its own engagement range.

---Deployment---
Two Minervas have been built so far, with four more laid down. Their performance in exercises has cast doubt on their cost-effectiveness however. The Magestrix has great faith in the design but her admirals feel it is over-sized for the role and have suggested that something smaller would be more desirable.

A real dropship-killer here, with 70 forward-facing PPCs.  Not quite enough firepower to threaten a warship in one pass...unless you have a few of them working together.  I know the PPC is a popular weapon (I prefer to put it on my dropships, as well) but you've used (or committed) almost 1100 PPCs between your twelve Diana & Minerva class ships.  The entire Free Worlds League requires 132 PPCs/year just for its 'mechs in 3025, and is said to be in chronic shortage, to the point where they bought 500 from the Liao.  Unless you're working an AU where the Magistry has way more military production than in canon, I don't know where you're going to find that many PPCs.

But as an assault ship...well, this is the kind of thing which will butcher enemies.

In this setting industry and technology have been recovered much faster and the Magistracy of Canopus is actually a fairly major military exporter and their largest logistical bottleneck is recruitment.

To give an idea of the rate of military advance, in 3025 there are at least 16 warships known to be in service in the Federated Commonwealth and Kapteyn Pact fleets. Canopian yards are scheduled to lay down 5 light assault dropships, 16 heavy assault dropships and 11 light warships that year, although the warships will be unfinished hulls since the weapon systems are still in development.

Why go for a Aero hull?  Sure they look better but a Spheroid would be better in intercept/assault jobs space the weapons out better same with armour.

Personally I like Aeros but just wondering why the choice

Overall I like the design

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Aerodyne hulls are slightly better for offensive action, because if you maneuver correctly, all forward-firing weapons can be concentrated against a single target, at the loss of firing arc flexibility.  Spheroids have better defensive firing arcs, but can not combine more than two weapons arcs against the same target.  This is why assault DropShips are nearly always AeroDynes (Avenger, Achilles, Claymore, Titan, etc) while transport droppers trend towards spheroids as they grow in size.  Has everything to do with emphasizing firepower concentration over the ability to shoot targets in any direction.

Yeah, it's all about putting those guns onto a single target if desired. (Although keeping seperate bays to give the option of hammering individual targets is also important).
