==Overview:==
The Pretender class armed cargo shuttle was a project initiated by the
command of the three families leadership. This project was the resulted of the
directives baring sales of military grade arms and units to private industrie
and security firms.
Yet provisions was allowed for the use of armed shuttles that was used on
convoy runs in the periphery. This provision was allowed due to pirates and
unmarked house military units preying on enemy and or private industry convoy
assets.
Even with these provisions the pretadation of Clannad's assets in the
Periphery was beginning to run heavily in the red, and would soon result in
the decision to consider ending operation and sales in the Periphery despite
high profits.
While this was being debated among the Three Families leadership, information
gathered thru Clannad's Security Forces and some secondary sources rumored to
be from the SLDF itself, provided proof that some other high level
corporations operating in the same market areas as Clannad was hiring
pirates and even current periphery military units to attack both Clannad
convoy and production facility's.
The reason was simple, to cause Clannad to end operations in the Periphery
and then the other corporations would step in with sweet heart deals to fill
the vacum caused by Clannads departure.
Faced with such evidence, yet not enough to take to the courts to take legal
action, the Three Families leadership along with their contacts with the SLDF
military proceeded on a risky counter offensive code-named Pretender.
The Pretender Armed Cargo Shuttle is the firt result of this
operation/program, a small craft hull built on a 100 ton aerospace fighter
frame and equipped with military grade armor and engines.
Armed with moderate weapons for self defense the Pretender was still capable
of transporting a respectable 50 tons of cargo and with a 2 G thrust for a
standard speed and high speed rating of 3 G for short periods of time was well
matched to other small craft shuttle in service.
Yet the true nature of this craft was that very cargo tonnage, when need
special weapons modules would be fitted to the Pretender and transform it from
a cargo shuttle to a heavily armed assault fighter that would then deploy and
defend Clannad assets.
In the space of 20 years the Pretender and later add on units would go on to
devastating the hired pirate and periphery forces raiding their facilities.
Also during this time, investigators from both Clannad's Legal Department and
the Star League Bureau of Justice finally was able to obtain the needed records of
evidence to bring to trial the rogue corporations.
Caught between legal action and the continued destruction of their own assets
by the Pretender operation, the Rogue corporations soon collapsed under the
pressure and then proceeding to plea bargain with the SL Bureau of Justice and
Clannad in order to avoid the complete arrest and seizure of their company's in
the face of the obtained evidence,
What occurred due to this was the near crippling of 5 different corperations
as they silently payed massive fines and court costs to the Star League an
then payed massive compensation to Clannad in the form of both financial and
facilities they maintained in the Periphery markets, this would propel Clannad
into the position of dominance they would maintain until the beginning of the
Usurper's operations to cause the Periphery rebellions and later the
seizure f the Terran Hegemony itself.
