Mako class corvette as a AAA Escort ?

 I know from reading the TRO 2800 and general history of the Republic that actual conversions and full refits and repairs for the Lyrans is dicey at best, and the following is only a topic for thought not a full out declaration of what should be done.

Okay now that part is out of the way, given the limited capabilities of the Lyran aerospace assets for repairs to full former conditions, would it be possible for some smaller ships like the Mako class that might have lost weapons and no longer have the capabilities to replace and repair them, be given a replacement armament in the form of a heavy conventional weapons array that would turn them from raiders to much needed AAA escorts for the heavy sluggers of the fleet ? and provide at the same time a fast response warship that the Mako has the speed for to deal with Kamikaze Jumpships or dropships aimed at the big ships ? in essence a min Defender class

just my thoughts on the matter

Full sized warships as screening vessels is not a good idea while everyone is throwing nukes around.

Yes, except for the cost multiplier that makes it a very expensive excercise to put significant firepower on a DS. If you care about the C-Bill, and the cost system is broken enough that I consider it optional, then CV dropships and fighters are the only way to go.
