a while back I tried to make a suggestion for a possible refit of a Mako as a AAA unit, but that kind of got shot down real quick so I decided to just do a design any how but one that was humor based more than anything, funny thing is it still is a functional design and works well with Lyran worship of money and profit lol, if the design offends anyone sorry and it/s not meant to be serious design to replace any other designs, it is just a hypothetical design of mine. (other than exchanging the mean weapons for sub caps and the addition of more coventional weapons I did not change the base design features of the ship other than heatsinks and crew requirements ;) )

==Overview:==
Sleek and swift (but also extremely cramped), the Lyran Mako-class corvette is
well named, a homage to its sea-dwelling shark progenitor. The small WarShip-
it is little longer than a transport JumpShip, though considerably broader-is
capable of sustaining 3G maneuvers and can sprint up to 4.5Gs. It out performs
almost all opposing WarShips and many DropShips, while still mounting an array
of weapons and armor that are impressive for the vessel's mass.

The Mako's manufacturer, Bolson Shipyards of New Kyoto, was best known for
their more conventional JumpShips for the LCAF (as well as numerous civilian
models). The corvette was their sole entry into the combat JumpShip market.
The design was a stark contrast to the Lyran doctrine of using heavy naval
vessels. It was intended to serve as an escort for the larger vessels and
handle independent operations, patrolling the Commonwealth's boarders and
serving as picket vessels in the more isolated Lyran systems.

More than one hundred Makos were constructed between 2692 and the fall of the
Star League, principally for the LCAF but also for export. The Star League
employed a handful of the design, as courier vessels, and the Rim Worlds
Republic like wise purchased five to bolster their own "loyalist" fleet during
the troubles elsewhere in the Periphery. Makos thus fought on both sides of
the conflict to liberate Terra from the Usurper. It is believed that all SLDF
and Rim Worlds Republic Makos were destroyed in the conflict: there were
certainly none left with the Clans.

The Lyrans own Makos were devastated in the brutal fighting that took place
along the boarder with the Free Worlds League in 2787. The Bolson yards
themselves were shattered by Marik action in that offensive. With their
destruction, the ability to maintain Mako-class vessels was lost. Attrition
took its toll on the design, and while many were lost to enemy action, a
number were scrapped when it became impossible to keep them in service. This
cannibalization allowed the corvette to remain in service until 2841, when the
last Mako was destroyed attempting to defend Caledonia from Kurita forces in
the second Succession War.


==Variants:==
 Seeking ways to make use of left over weapons stock left from now
discontiuned production lines a frugal and enerpising stock manager at Bolan
Shipyards proposed to his division chief the idea of taking a uncompleated
Mako corvette and refit it with the older weapons in place of the current
shceduled Capitail weapons to be fitted out onto it, while at the same time
add aditional secondary weapons to the ship as a increased AA capability(the
main reason why the supply manager suggested this refit was due to the fact
that the weapons was not being sold and was taking up storage space and was
cutting into his quarterly bonus for items sold, dead stock is dead profits
for a Lyran and thier bonus espiciay).

  Now the division chief seeing a chance to increase his own bonus was quick
to check with some friends in the design department to see if it was feasible
and also let them have a chance at a extra bonus also, what soon resulted was
one of the fastests redisign works ever done!(Greed is a great motivator).

Some of the new weaponry in there. Not bad. I remember when I first designed the Mako before TRO3057R that is.  ::)

thanks, currently I am tinkering with a heavily modified Essex Class DD that I have codenamed The Beast for a alt time line story which occurs in 2725

well the working title at this point is called "The Beast, where the Light of Civilization shines so does the Darkness". In this case it will be kind of a dark side of the Star League story ;). If possible when it gets ready can I bother you later on for info on the period since your site is more in depth for this kind of info and maybe even suggestions would be welcomed, the last time I did a major writing project was back in 98 when I released the first draft of The Invincible back on Sarna Net.(my version that is from early references)
