==Overview==
The Nike was an offshoot of the Canopian Navy Royal's Diana development programme. While admirals complained the Diana-II's onboard wing was too small, the Magestrix felt that compromising the enormous resilience of the structure would be a mistake. Ultimately the 'fast' requirement was scaled back and the design was scaled up to a dedicated assault carrier.
==Capabilities==
While slower than its parent design the Nike is still more than able to keep up with transports, making it perfectly suitable as an escort for convoys. It isn't quite capable of keeping up with the Magistracy's projected fleet of warships but it can generally maintain distance against the current generation of attack fighters.
The Nike sports the same defensive armament as the Diana and Minerva lines have evolved: a mix of anti-missile and small laser turrets. Because it is not intended to engage in broadside combat, these are concentrated around the nose and engines. For anti-fighter work the predictable but efficient PPC turrets of the CNR provide all-arc coverage.
In the theory the Nike can outpace most fighters that can damage it, and destroy anything it can't avoid. Because practise and theory diverge - and the recent redevelopment of the light fire-support fighter that might be able to harass it from outside the range of its guns - the Nike actually carries even more armour than the Diana-II: an astonishing seven hundred and twenty tons of standard plate secured to a structure rated against multiple impacts by a naval autocannon.

The first three Nikes were laid down in the second half of 3025 and have yet to be completed.
