Well we had three superior designs by three fantastic designers this time around. I was expecting someone to use the Star League Swift which the Clans still use in a training and second line role as a basis here but alas no takers. So onward we go to evaluating the entries at hand.
3. Kazhak (Abele)
Using a modified Bashkir air frame the Ice Hellions threw their hat into the ring which is not a bad choice especially given its Khan at this time is an aerospace pilot. The aptly named Kazhak has a 9/14 movement profile thanks to the 175XL Engine gotten from the Mist Lynx. Unfortunately this thrust category is already filled by the Batu and Sulla plus being the Ice Hellions I would expect something faster. However, your fluff does address the lack of a 275XL Engine in the Clans’ industrial base. With 7 tons of pod space you have the most mass available for weapons and equipment. I like your configurations from the Kazhak Prime with its six ER Mediums Lasers to the A’s with their missile support and the B with its impressive electronics suite (ECM, TAG, & Active Probe). I always have to address fuel as we have entered aerospace arena and the Kazhak has 5 tons or a 150 value which is pretty much the standard supply for fighters. It has 6.5 tons of ferro aluminum (125 factor) which is a pretty solid amount. Good entry Abele but I liked two better. Sorry bud.
2. Berber (drakensis)
This new aerospace design by the Cloud Cobras with help from their Burrock allies was very well done. Basing the design on the Chaeronea does make sense especially given the Cobras history with obtaining Mongoose bloodnames. Love the Berber name as it fits with the Cobra’s Egyptian feel and it falls within Clan Omnifighter designation practices. It would fill the 12/18 movement profile nicely with its 250 XL Engine gotten from the Turk. With 6.5 tons of pod space it has sizable mass for weapons and equipment. Three configurations are pretty good and primary does tap into its original basis with an ER PPC main gun now backed up by an ER Small Laser. I would have liked to have seen a couple of more variations perhaps one with an ER Large or one with an advanced electronics package (ECM, TAG, & Active Probe). Fuel storage of 4 tons (120 value) is lower than other competitors but in line with other Clan Omnifighters. With 5 tons of ferro aluminum armor (96 factor) it has the lowest protection of any competitor here. Your fluff is pretty good even though it got a little bit cut off. However it does point to the reason I placed this design second. Contending against the Bashkir is good with its 12/18 speed but I really want a Clan light fighter that does not duplicate others rather has its own unique role. To an extent the Berber does and you did a great job drak but I liked one other design better.
1. Sarmatian (masterarminas)
This Goliath Scorpion entry was in my opinion the best done for our contest. The story of its long time development based on the venerable Sabre is very believable and well done. Having a new aerospace Khan, Ariel Suvorov, does help and I like the discussion of the tougher phenotype developed by the Scorpions and other Clans. Superior fluff as always masterarminas. All its components have been accounted for including its electronics which have been upgraded thanks to the Ares Medium Tank. With an 8/12 movement profile thanks to its 150XL Engine from the Commando IIC it fills a missing gap in the Clan aerospace group. While 6 tons of pod space was the smallest of any competitor it large 8 tons of ferro aluminum (154 factor) makes for an excellent ground support craft which fills a unique role for Clan Light Omnifighters. Well done masterarminas!
Nice job gang. You all medaled and were worthy of it. My thanks and congratulations! The designs were all well done and enjoyable to review. Our next aerospace contest will be up tomorrow but it might not be the tonnage some are expecting. See ya soon!
