Things are getting heavier now as we delve into the 65 ton weight class trying to find a new OmniFighter for the Clans. Fortunately we have a bit more to chose from when we get to this aeroframe then the previous 55 ton. While the Diamond Shark’s second line Ammon fighter is still more than a dozen years away I could see it providing some inspiration here. Don’t forget that the Sharks and the Nova Cats produced undocumented fighters, the Ogotai and Qasar respectively, which could be added to any prospective fluff. Then you have one of my favorite Star League designs, the Ironsides, along with Steiner Lucifiers and Kurita Shilones to provide existing basis.

For the Extra Light Fusion Engine already in production you have several choices to go with. Certainly the 325XL manufactured by the Hell’s Horses for the Hellbringer or the Smoke Jaguar for the Ebon Jaguar is available. You could also try to step it up to the 390XL produced by the Wolves for the Linebacker. I also attempted to find something a little slower but was unsuccessful scrounging up a 260XL. Maybe there is one out there but I could not find it. In any event you have in my estimation a wide variety of frames and engines with which to expedite your entry. Please attempt to get this one into the air as soon as possible.

Snow Raven (like Burrock, Jade Falcon, and Smoke Jaguar) has maxed out their industrial capability with their win in the last contest and my decision to grant them rights to the Avar which was originally produced by the Wolves. So that drops our possible competitors by one and likely makes Cloud Cobra the front runner for at least one more aerospace design. Coyote, Diamond Shark, Ice Hellion, and Nova Cat are all looking to add a fighter to their production capacity. Then there is Fire Mandrill and Hell’s Horses who don’t have a fighter yet either. Goliath Scorpion also has an outside shot even though they won the first aerospace contest. Remember I am still saving some other Clans (Blood Spirit, Ghost Bear, Steel Viper, Star Adder, or Wolf) for future projects.

Clan Omnifighter Naming Conventions are important as well. Over half (7) of the original Clan Omnifighters featured in Technical Readout 3055 do ascribe to a Warrior Tribe designation. We further have commented on themes for each Clan (Coyote for example being so heavily influenced by American Indians particularly from the Southwest make tribes there ideal for potential design names) in the last design thread. There are also seven (7) named Clan fighters which were designated in honor of Khans/Generals of Antiquity (Batu, Sulla, Jagatai, Sabutai, Jengiz, Ogotai, and Qasar) so you could go in that direction if you please. Remember the winning design will be featured in Technical Readout 3054: Quicksilver Trails along side other winners. Good luck everybody!

And here I go with the first submission, the Qashqai, and it is based on the Lucifer. I chose the name Qashqai mainly because it begins with the letter Q

==Overview:==

Having collaborated in the past on the Thresher battlemech, the Khans
of Clans Diamond Shark and Hell's Horses decided to work together on a new
OmniFighter for IlKhan Kerensky's Quicksilver challenge. The Diamond Sharks,
been to the Inner Sphere had come into the possession of several copies of the
Lyran commonwealth's Lucifer medium aerospace fighter. Being the savvy
industrialists that they are, they were able to reverse engineer the platform for
use as the basis for the Qashqai. The problem with the Lucifer was
that it was not as maneuverable as the Hell's Horses designers wanted. Hell's
Horses chose to add the 325XL powerplant form the Hellbringer to power
the Qashqai. While more powerful than the Standard 195, it weighed less
than the old engine. This freed up a lot of space to be used towards weapons
pod space.

A total of fourteen tons of ferro-aluminum armor protect the Qashqai from
all normal battlefield hazards. Unlike in the Lyran version of the Lucifer, a
pilot is able to eject from the Qashqai, thus saving himself for future use in
the Clan's touman. An interesting feature on the Qashqai was the inclusion
of an ECM suite mounted to the rear of the craft's fuselage. This was thought to
help keep the fighter from being engaged by enemy aircraft's targeting
systems, especially those fighter faster than it.

Due to the size of the engine and the planned scope of the weapons loadouts it
was decided to mount the maximum number of heat sinks the the 325 XL could
handle. Thusly, thirteen double heat sinks are carried and give the
Qashqai a good starting point towards heat mitigation.


==Configurations:==

Even with the large engine the Qashqai has an impressive twenty-seven
tons of available pod space. The Prime configuration is a direct homage to the
Ammon that was under development at the time. Mounting three extended
range large lasersin the nose and a six-tube Streak SRM launcher mounted in
each wing. Anadditional seven double heat sinks are mounted to deal with the
enormous amount of heat genenrated by the large lasers,

Alternate configuration A is heavy strike fighter equipped with a pair of
extended range PPCs in the nose alongside an extended range medium laser. In
the wings are mounted a pair of ten-tube long-range missile launchers each
with two tons of ammunition. To deal with the heat generated by the PPCs five
extra double heat sinks have been added.

Alternate configuration B features the Class 20 LB-X autocannon which is
spread quite liberally though the Hell's Horses touman. Mounted in the nose it
comes with a huge four ton ammuniton pod. To keep the autocannon company in
the nose, a trio of small pulse lasers have added. For long-range fire
support, an extended range large alser is mounted in each wing.

The third alternate configuration is a variation on the Prime and replaces the
ER large lasers with three large pulse lasers in the nose. Due to the weight
of the large pulsers, the SRM launchers had to be replaced by a pair of medium
pulsers. Five additional heat sinks have been added to deal with the heat.

The final configuration, the D, is a variation of the B and replaces the LB-X
autocannon with a Gauss Rifle with three tons of ammunition. The small pulse
alsers are replaced with two medium pulse lasers. The wing-mounted large
lasers remain from the B.

Overview:
While the Hells Horses were disappointed that their Pashtun design wasn't accepted for service they'd been wary enough of stiff competition from Clans more experienced with aerospace technology to hedge their bets.

The primary weakness they saw in the 55-ton Pashtun was the relatively light armament although they also conceded that the need to put an entirely new engine and airframe into production could be factors. To counter these, their alternative design was ten tons heavier and was based upon the SLDF's IRN-SD1b Royal Ironsides.

In fact, the Timur under the skin is in almost all respects an Ironsides. The Hells Horses, realising that the lower bulk of a new fusion engine wouldn't be a factor in an aerospace fighter simply retained the SL-era extra-light 260 fusion-turbine and similar reasoning led to the electronics being retained with only slight software updates to support the more advanced weapons fit.

Capabilities:
The Timur may have ancient internals but the Hells Horses carried their concept of a heavily armoured airframe across from the Pashtun. The almost masochistic habits of Hells Horses pilots, who boast not of kills but of how much damage they took while still bringing their aircraft home is indulged fully with more than a third of the airframe weight made up by advanced ferro-aluminium.

The thick-skinned Timur can carry 28 tons of payload, almost half again that of te Pashtun. In the primary configuration it carries a payload copied in most rspects from the original Ironsides although it adds an aft-firing laser since the Timur isn't likely to outmanuver even Inner Sphere fighters.

Alpha configuration strips out the weapons for a mix of large and medium extended range lasers in the nose and each wing. Coupled with an advanced targeting computer and extra heatsinks the Timur A is not only an excellent strafer but also capable of pin-point long range strikes.

The Timur Beta is a specialised anti-vehicle platform. Very aware of the damage cluster ammunition can cause to combat vehicles, the Hells Horses loaded the nose with a pair of LB-X autocannon and backed it up with a small LRM launcher for long range firepower against Inner Sphere tanks and helicopters, which the AFFC in particular deploys in potentially dangerous numbers. To support this each wing carries a pair of pulse lasers.

You know what's scary, drakensis? I have another 65-tonner that does the same 6/9 as your Timur, but it's called by its called by Timur's anglicized name, Tamerlane. It's got way less armr than yours, but it does have 33 tons of pod space (and 16 tons of armor)

You know what's scary, drakensis? I have another 65-tonner that does the same 6/9 as your Timur, but it's called by its called by Timur's anglicized name, Tamerlane. It's got way less armr than yours, but it does have 33 tons of pod space (and 16 tons of armor)
so 6.5 tons less armour and 5 tons more pod-space. That's not a terrible balance, so why are you calling it 'lame'?

(Tamerlane is what he's called by the peoples he terrorised. It's an insult: Timur the Lame)

Not gonna do it, it's getting hard just to right fluff for one fighter. Besides, I would do my 8/12 fighter before doing the 6/9 one, anyhow. I went with the 7/11 fighter as a compromise.

Overview

"So, the dinner was exquisite and the company enjoyable, but what proposition does the Khan of Clan Goliath Scorpion have for fetting me, my top scientists, and my senior Pilot this evening?" Ian Hawker asked as the lower-caste servants cleared the last of the dishes from the table.

Ariel Suvorov grinned brightly at the Diamond Shark Khan.  "Why, Ian," she answered.  "Why do you assume I have an ulterior motive?  And a proposition, at that?"

Hawker snorted out a bark of laughter.  "You are a Scorpion, Ariel, and your breed does NOTHING without a reason."

"Well, as it just so happens, I do have a subject that I wanted to broach with you tonight," and her eyes sparkeled, "perhaps even a proposition."

She stood and motioned her guests towards the roaring fireplace and the comfortable chairs arrayed before it.  Ian snorted again and he nodded, standing as well, quickly followed by Marcus Faulk and Scientist Tam. 

"I presume that the subject you wish to broach is another Quicksilver collaboration?" the Shark Khan asked.

"Aff," Ariel answered.  "We Scorpions have a concept for new 65-ton OmniFighter . . . but I must admit that we require some . . .," and she paused for a moment before saying the words that no Khan liked to utter, "assistance in order to transform the concept into reality."

"Ah," mused Ian as he sat down in a chair and lifted a glass of dessert wine.  "I thought as much.  Why should the Sharks provide you with that assistance, Ariel?  True, the Sand Devil project will generate profits, but that one victory is no surety of another."

"Because together we can win again and the potential profits will outweigh the costs to you."

Ian took a sip of his sherry and nodded.  "Perhaps.  Perhaps not.  But I am here, and I am listening.  Not that listening implies agreement, Ariel."

"No, of course not," she answered, before turning to the Shark pilot resting before the fire.  "Star Colonel Faulk," she began, "could you tell me what the Clans, as a whole, are lacking in our current OmniFighter programs?  In the weight classes that remain which the ilKhan has set our sights upon?"

Marcus frowned.  "To be truthful, there is very little else that we actually need Khan Suvorov.  Not now that your Sarmatian, the Cloud Cobra Apache, and the Snow Raven Zulu have been green-lighted for production."  He paused and considered before he nodded his head.  "Of course, many of our heavier fighters are rather exclusive designs, so perhaps we could use a general-purpose OmniFighter to contend with the Jagatai and Sabutai, something slower than the Turk and Visigoth, but with sizeable pod-space and decent protection."

"Neg," Ariel answered, drawing a raised eyebrow from Ian Hawker.  "The Clans need a low-cost, relatively speaking, of course, medium-weight OmniFighter that can match the firepower of many of those heavy-weight designs you have cited.  However, we field three OmniFighters that can generate a max thrust of 4.5-g's, and two more with a thrust of 5.5-g's.  What we are lacking is a mid-range design with a max thrust of 4-g's that is affordable, robust, and enduring."

Now Faulk frowned.  "There is the Jengiz and Kirghiz in that role . . .," but he was interupted.

"Both of which are heavy-weight designs, and both of which belong to the Ghost Bears.  Who are very stubborn in their refusal to share with, or sell to, other Clans."

"The Wolves do also have the right to produce a limited number of Jengiz annually," Ian pointed out.

"A limited number, which they keep for themselves.  What I, and my Scientists, propose is this, gentlemen.  Our two Clans collaborate a new 65-ton OmniFighter with the same thrust profile of the Jengiz and Kirghiz.  One that carries an impressive amount of armor and fuel and can simply outlast our opponents, yet has enough pod-space to mount even the heaviest of weaponry."

She paused and smiled at Ian Hawker.  "You do see the potential profit in such a design, quiaff?"

"Aff," he answered.  "What do you need from my Clan?"

"Two things.  My sources tell me that you are looking at the development of a 65-ton standard Aerospace Fighter for use by second-line and garrison forces; at the present time, the Scoprions are unable to design and produce a frame for our new Maori.  We need to use yours; modified as a OmniFighter."

The Shark Scientist jerked upright in her seat.  "The Ammon is just a computer model and simulation at this time!  We haven't even begun to develop the schematics for production!"

The Scorpion held up her hand.  "Which means that you still have time to modify the frame for Omni-pods, quiaff?"

There was no answer, but Ariel nodded.  "Aff.  And we will need a factory to produce the frame when the Maori wins this competition."

"Can it be done?  In a short time-frame?" asked Ian.

"It is possible, my Khan," the Scientist answered.  "But we'll have to work out the gremlins while the frame undergoes flight-testing and Trials . . . there could be all sorts of unforeseen difficulties that we will have to iron out on the fly."

"And the second thing you need?"

"The Sharks will have to produce the 195-rate extra-light fusion engine my Scientists believe will suffice to power to the design."

Ian Hawker snorted again.  "That is all you want?  Only the frames and engines, as well as the factories to produce them!  The start-up costs alone will be consid- . . .,"

"Will be outweighed by the potential profits that this design will generate.  The Blood Spirits, Burrocks, Cloud Cobras, Fire Mandrills, Hell's Horses, Ice Hellions, Nova Cats, and Star Adders will purchase this design in bulk from your factories . . . and mine."  Ariel interjected.  "My Scorpions will provide the comm system and TTA array, modified from our existing Fire Scorpion production facility, as well as the Compound GS ferro-aluminum armor from our Sarmatian line."

"Faulk?" asked Ian.

The pilot shrugged.  "It does fill a hole in our Toumans that I had not even realize existed, my Khan.  And she's right about the potential profits . . . IF we win the competition."

"The potential rewards outweigh the risks, Ian," Ariel added.  "And what Khan is not, at heart, a gambler?"

Ian Hawker took another sip of his sherry and then he nodded.  "And what do the Sharks get out of this deal?"

"Full production rights to all orders above and beyond what my Scorpions can produce."

Ian took another sip and then he shook his head.  "Done.  BUT, if your Maori does not win I also want full compensation for our expenditures on your behalf.  Payable over the next twenty years, of course."

Ariel winced.  "Agreed."

"Then I do believe we have a deal, Scorpion," the leader of the Diamond Sharks answered.

Capabilities

Massing 65-tons, the Maori is a joint development from Clans Diamond Shark and Goliath Scorpion for Project Quicksilver.  Using a prototype frame stemming from a conceptual computer modeling originating with the proposed Diamond Shark Ammon design (and hastily modified for the incorporation of Omni-pods), the new fighter was hastily hand-assembled by teams of Laborers, Technicians, and Scientists from both Clans.

Although unproven, the Ripscale-3 frame promises superb atmospheric performance; however, some Shark scientists are concerned about the removal of internal cross-bracing to allow for the use of Omni-pods.  This removal was believed to have an impact on the structural integrity of the design slightly, preventing the use of a high-powered engine.  However, tests revealed that despite the removal of the internal cross-bracing, the frame design remained just as strong as the original concept.

But high-thrust was never the goal of the Scorpion-Shark development team.  A Consolidated 195 Extra-Light Fusion engine provides power for the electronics and weapon systems, as well as generating 2.5-g's of safe thrust and 4-g's of maximum overthrust. Based upon existing 195s taken from captured Lucifer ASFs, the Consolidated engine is a new design just emerging from Shark factories.

Seven full tons of internal fuel tankage (an almost unheard of amount among Clan fighter craft!) provides the Maori with exceptional endurance and range.  Combined with the fourteen tons of Compound GS ferro-aluminum armor plating provided by Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Maori promises to be very robust and difficult to damage.  The armor plating on the nose and wings is thick enough to resist penetration by IS Large Lasers and lighter weapons, while the tail is rated to stop internal damage by IS Medium Pulse Lasers and lighter weapons.  This heavy level of armor protection exceeds that of the Jagatai, Sabutai, and Jengiz heavy fighters, making the new OmniFighter quite durable in combat.

The Scorpions provided the JNE Integrated communications system along with a modified version of the Mark II TRTTS targeting & tracking array; both of which were originally used on the Fire Scorpion BattleMech.  Simple and reliable systems, the inclusion of software upgrades allows them to make the translation from planetary combat to the vast ranges of aerospace operations without problem.  The radar, forward-looking infrared, and thermal sensors of the Maori were taken directly from the Scorpion Sarmatian production line; this commonality of parts decreases the logistics demands of the new fighter.

Although only the standard ten double-strength heat sinks were fixed within the frame, the Scorpions insisted upon the installation of a Guardian II ECM Suite for additional defensive coverage.  Despite the heavy armor, above average fuel tankage, and fixed ECM, the Maori retains enough internal volume and mass to accommodate 36.0 tons of pod-mounted weaponry and equipment, along with internal bays allowing the fighter to carry up to thirteen tons of slung ordnance.  Unlike many older fighters, the Maori is able to carry all of that ordnance within a single center-line fuselage bay, and is thus able to accommodate even the largest of weapon systems (albeit, not without significant acceleration and maneuvering penalties).

The smaller engine also reduced overall production cost to below that of the 60-ton Visigoth and all heavier Clan current production OmniFighters.  This (relatively) low-cost in resources makes the Maori appealing for a number of Clans that have limited resources to expend on outfitting their Touman.

Configurations

The Maori Prime is armed with a pair of nose-mounted LB-20X autocannons fed by six tons of ammunition (15 tandem bursts).  Typically, the fighter will carry a mixed load of cluster and slug, trading accuracy for raw firepower as needed.  Eight Extended-Range Small Lasers are the secondary weapons, mounted three each in the right and left wing, with the remaining two firing astern.  Twelve double-strength heat sinks compensate for the heat of all forward-firing weapons.

Configuration A features twin Ultra AC-10 autocannons in the nose with four tons of ammunition (20 tandem bursts or 10 tandem double-shots).  Each wing carries two ER Medium Lasers with an additional two firing astern.  Sixteen DHS allows the configuration to fire all forward weapons (with the UACs on double-tap) without generating any excess overheat.

Configuration B carries twin Gauss Rifles in the nose with three tons of ammunition (12 tandem shots).  Secondary weapons consist of four Medium Pulse Lasers (two each in the right and left wing) and two ER Small Lasers (firing astern).  Only the base ten DHS are mounted, but this is sufficient to allow for all forward-firing weapons.

Configuration C was created at the insistence of the Diamond Sharks.  The main guns are two LRM-20 launchers in the nose, both with Artemis IV fire-control and fed by four tons of ammunition (for 12 double salvoes).  Secondary weapons are six ER Medium Lasers (three per wing) and two ER Small Lasers (astern); all of which are tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer.  Twenty-one DHS allows for the full use of all forward weapons.

Configuration D is armed only with pulse lasers for maximum accuracy.  The nose mounts twin Large Pulse Lasers, along with a Medium Pulse Laser, while each wing and the tail carry two Medium Pulse Lasers.  Twenty DHS are more than sufficient to cool this configuration.

The Maori E is armed with two nose-mounted ER PPCs, four ER Medium Lasers (two in each wing), and two ER Small Lasers (mounted astern).  All guns are tied into a four-ton Targeting Computer, while twenty-five DHS provides full cooling for the forward weapons.

Configuration F also carries a four ton Targeting Computer, this one linking four nose-mounted ER Large Lasers and two rear-mounted ER Medium Lasers.  Twenty-four DHS allows the Pilot to fire the nose ER Large Lasers without concerns over excess heat production.

Finally, the Maori G was designed as an infighter.  Twelve ER Medium Lasers provide almost unheard of levels of firepower, albeit at the expense of extensive range.  Mounted four each in the nose and wings, thirty DHS are provided to dissipate the incredible levels of heat produced.  Two ER Small Lasers in the tail are almost an after-thought, although all fourteen guns are tied into a three-ton Targeting Computer.

Deployment

To date, only ten Maori OmniFighters have been completed . . . and these have required Scorpion and Shark engineers to assemble the fighters by hand.  Initial trials on Strana Mechty have indicated the design is quite tough and packs a considerable punch, but as the Shark scientists predicted, there have been a number of malfunctions and glitches with the hastily produced design.  Most have so far been minor, but one complete airframe has been destroyed (and the Pilot killed) when the Maori Prime unexpectedly lost engine power on final landing approach.

This incident (although not uncommon among prototype aerospace and OmniFighters) occurred after the design was accepted for the Quicksilver Trials.  Combined with the other minor system failures and glitches, the crash has resulted in some Clans (especially those with entries of their own) to call for the Scorpions and Sharks to withdraw the Maori from competition.  To date, however, the ilKhan has refused to order such, although he has instructed the technicians of the Ebon Keshik to triple-check the air-frames, engines, and electronics before further test flights.

Okay.  Something a little different; it will probably be tomorrow or Tuesday before I get the fluff posted, but this is a Diamond Shark-Goliath Scorpion collaboration (after their success with the 45-ton Sand Devil).  A bit slower than most medium fighters, but I consider this design a pocket (and budget) heavy . . . with a price tag that just barely exceeds 10 million C-Bills in a few configurations (most are in the 9.x range).  Good armor (threshold proof against IS Large Lasers across the nose and wings, against IS Medium Pulse Lasers on the tail!), very nice pod-space (36.0 tons), a fixed ECM Suite, and 7 tons of internal fuel (!!!). 

Yeah, almost UNHEARD OF on a CLAN design.  With that tankage (and the heavy armor) she can outlast virtually ANY fighter in the Inner Sphere or Clans.  Or perform strike missions from a greater range.  Or conduct defensive patrols for longer periods of time.  And, in combat, spend more turns using overthust and STILL maintaining a reserve without drop-tanks.

The Maori is designed as a low-cost (relatively) in-your-face, no-shit, strike fighter that goes in harm's way with fear or caution.  She may be slow, but she's no push-over.  And there are many, many Clans out there that would hock their souls to buy this fighter for their Touman.  Blood Spirit, Burrock, Fire Mandrill, Ghost Bear, Hell's Horses, Smoke Jaguar, and Star Adder amongst them.

Anyway, that is my design and like I said, fluff will be up later this week.  Now, I'm heading for bed.

==Overview:==

The Seljuk is a creation born of the combat experience gained from the
battles fought on Wolcott, Luthien and, most importantly, Tukayyid. The Clans
woefully underestimated the forces of the Inner Sphere powers when it came to
total warfare, an idea virtually anathema to the Clans since the absorption of
Clan Mongoose by the Smoke Jaguars. IlKhan Kerensky and his fellow Khans from
Clan Wolf were amongst the few who understood the concept. A new Omnifighter
was needed to meet the demands of a new way of fighting, However, with their
industrial infrastucture already at full capacity, Clan Wolf was looking for a
partner to manufacture this new design and found one in their fellow Invader
clan, the Nova Cats.

The Nova Cats were in a near desperate need to replace the fighters they had
lost at Luthien and Tukayyid, but lacked an indigenous to call their own. When
the Sakhan Kerensky of Clan Wolf contacted Khan Severen Leroux, an Aerospace
pilot himself, about this new fighter project, dubbed the Seljuk, his
decision was immediate and in the affirmative. The design would be based on a
modified version of Clan Wolf's Jagatai and feature the new 390XL found
in the Linebacker Omnimech. With the assistance of Wolf aerospace
engineers, Nova Cat engineers made several modifications to the airframe which
lowered the maximum weight of the aircraft by five tons. Changes included the
narrowing and shortening of the fuselage and the chage from twi vertical tails
to a single vertical. Changes were also made to the wing by narrowing the
width slightly, but creating a larger delta shape for greater stability in
high G flight.

As the 390XL was more massive than the Jagatai's 280XL and the
Seljuk was also lighter, pod space was going to be at a premium. Given
this, it was decided to mount minimum amount of double heat sinks on the
engine and to mount a mere eleven tons of ferro-aluminum armor to protect the
craft and its pilot. This gives the Seljuk a mere twenty-three tons of
pod space, a near forty percent redustion from the Jagatai's
thirty-seven tons of pod space, while still having the same overall armor
protection as the Jagatai.

==Configurations:==

With only twenty-three tons of available pod space for the Seljuk over
all offensive capabilites would be greatly reduced when compared to the
smaller Visgoth or larger Jagatai. The Clan Nova cat engineers,
with the assistance of Clan Wolf engineers, came up with a total of nine
different configurations for the Seljuk, This configurations are
highlighted below

Configuration Prime: Reminiscent of oits parent the Jagatai, the
Prime features a nose mounted LRM-20. However, unlike its forebear, this one
is equipped with an Artemis IV system and comes with an extra ton of
ammunition. To bakc up the missile launcherm a pair each of extended range
medium and large lasers are mounted in the wings. Four extra heatsinks are
also carried.

Configuration A: This variant carries it main weapons in the wings in
the form of a pair of large pulse lasers. A Streak SRM-6 an pair of medium
pulsers are mounted in the nose as secondary weapons. Three extra heatsimks
are carried.

Configuratiion B: Features a nose-monted Gauss Rifle with three tons
ammunition as its main weapon. Backup firepower is privided by a sextet of
extneded range medium lasers mounted in the wings. Two extra heatsinks are
mounted.

Configuratiion C: A support variant, two wing-mounted LRM-15s equipped
with the Artemis IV system are the main weapons. Each is fed by a two-ton
magazine. A quintet of extneded medium range lasers are mounted in the nose of
this craft. five additional heatsinks are mounted.

Configuratiion D: Another support variant, this model features a
nose-mounted ER PPC as the main weapon. LRm-10s replace the LRM-15s in the
wings, but the Artemis IV and the two ammunition bins remain. A pair of
extended range medium lasers share the nose with the ER PPC, Four extra
heatsinks are caried.

Configuratiion E: This variant features an all laser battery. A pair of
entended range large lasers are mounted in the nose. A foursome of medium
pulse laser is also mounted with two in the nose and one in each wing. a Total
of seventeen double heatsinks are allocted to deal with the heat.

Configuratiion F: A Class 10 LB-X autocannon is the main weapon and
comes with three tons of ammunition. A pair of medium lasers share the nose
with the autocannon, while a pair of Streak SRM-6 launchers are mounted in the
wings.

Configuratiion G: The reconaissance version of the Seljuk and
comes with a complete electronic warfare suite mounted in the nose. A pair
each of large and medium pulse lasers provide the firepower. Two tons of added
fuel allows the variant to perform long-range reconnaissance missions. Two
additional heatsinks are mounted.

Configuratiion H: Designed to work hand-in-hand with the G
configuration as part of strike packages against hardened targets or
Dropships, this configuration features the Arrow IV artillery system with a
total of four tons of ammunition. Four medium lasers, two each of the extended
range and pulse variety, provide the backup firepower for the Arrow IV launcher.
One additional heat sink is carried.

No way. I just finished the fluff for my 95-ton entry as I had an idea for it that I just had to commit to digital paper. And after doing some research for the Uighur, I'm now going to have to change the fluff for the 95-tonner. A minor fix, but a major one as well.

I was going to use name for the 55-tonner instead of the Arapaho as the Uighur were a tribe that were in China with the Wusun (the canon 55-ton Clan OmniFighter). Yes, I know this makes three designes but I don't expect to win anyway, if the past three challenges are any indication.

==Overview:==

Not willing to leave all their hopes vested in the Qashqai project it
was working on with the Hell's Horses, Khan Hawker ordered the scientists to
design an indigenous OmniFighter. As the Ammon was currently entering
the prototype stage of its development cycle, it was decided to use it as the
basis for the new Uighur project. For the purposes of the Quicksilver
challenge and the lack of time for development this was oing to be a paper
-only exercise. As the Ammon was the basis for the new aircraft, the
design team decided to go with an XL equivalent of the standard 260 powerplant
of the Ammon. This would be a new engine, but development would not be
difficult as it would only require making a few modifications to the 270XL
found in the Vixen and Shadow Cat battlemechs.

As this was only paper exercise a great deal of liberties were taken with the
design. With the weaght savings form the XL engine, it was decided to switch
the armor from standard to ferro-aluminum and increase the amount of
protection to 15.5 tons applied to the airframe. With these changes,
protection was increased by a full thirty-three percent. As the design had a
thrust threshold that was at the bottom of the curve, it became necessary to
install an anti-missile system as a fixed defensive weapon. While it would not
discourage enemy fighters from getting too close, it would knock down any
incoming missles approaching the Uighur from behind.

==Configurations:==

With a total of thirty-three tons of available pod space, the Uighur
has the potential of being a very powerful medium weight aerospace platform

Prime Configuration: The Prime is a variation of the Ammon and
features a trio of Large Pulse Lasers in place of the extended range large
lasers. The Streak SRM-6s remain in the wings, but they are joined by a pair
of small pulse lasers. Five additional heatsinks are carried.

AlphaConfiguration: The Alpha mounts a pair of Gauss Rifles in the
wings which share a fiv-ton magazine, Secondary weapons are limited to a
quartet of extended range medium lasers. No additional heatsinks were required
for this configuration.

Beta Configuration:A variation on the Alpha, Class 10 LB-X autocannons
replace the Gauss Rifles. Each LB-X has a three-ton ammunition magazine. An
extended range small laser join the autocannon in each wing. In the nose,
three medium pulse lasers replace the four medium lasers. No additional
heatsinks are carried.

Gamma Configuration: This model is an assault platform that mounts five
Streak SRM-4 launchers, with two in each wing and the other in the nose, Each
launcher has its own dedicated ammunition bin, To allow the Gamma to close
with its target and defend itself, a pair of extended range large lasers is
mounted in the nose and a medium laser in each wing. A total of eighteen
heatsinks are mounted to deal with heat buildup.

Delta Configuration: As the merchants have recently acquired a large
number of Class 20 Ultra autocannons, it was decided to base this model on the
mounting of the weapon. Four tons of ammuniton feeds the hungry autcannon,
sharing the space in the nose with the Ultra are two enxtended range medium
lasers. Two extended range large lasers are mounted in the wings and seven
additional are lso carried aboard the Delta.

Epsilon Configuration: The final configuration is long-range support
platform and features a nose mounted ER PPC and a pair of wing-mounted LRM-15
launchers equipped with the Artemis IV fire control system. For additional
support, four medium lasers are mounted, two of each variety. The pulse lasers
are mounted in the nose while the extended range lasers are mounted in the
wings. Eight additional heatsinks are carried.
