Mohawk has been updated and a surprise has been added.

Very nice Abele, two excellent designs!!

I don't dispute the outcome of the contest. I've no reason to believe that the decision would have been different in any significant way had my point been acknowledged.

However, since you've accepted the use of salvaged parts in other designs I remain convinced you're being inconsistent.

There's no point arguing over it however.

The Kubulai evidently won't be a contender since it doesn't meet your new standards but I see no reason to delete it either. Have fun.

Hang on there big fellow!!! The last contest was fantastic with all six entries being worthy of a trip to the winner circle including the Timur.

Use of salvage parts and existing components is a plus but mixed tech is a no no. Yeah I freak out with Star League/InnerSphere Engines or EndoSteel (for 'Mechs) is used on a Clan machine and I think the Clans would too. The Timur made it clear that use of the Star League 260XL was for the testing phase and one would be developed - at least how I read it. This was a very clever use of existing supplies. Plausible yes but if you notice I keep throwing out if you worked with Diamond Shark on an Uighur-Timur amalgamation it would have been better. Development of such a production line would have been more believable to me so lets say that had happened here. Such a design would have still finished behind the Qashqai which used the 325XL already in production.

Point of fact the Kubulai is a contender and a very top notch one. Of course, I am anxiously awaiting masterarminas fluff on the Hun and Abele had two very solid entries so we shall see how good it ultimately is in my eyes on Friday (for all that matters). Regardless of that judgement I can tell you took the road less traveled with a lower tech approach and I gotta say put forth a great design I did not see coming. I mean everyone is gonna try an XL Engine, right? It is out of the box, nice concept and in character I love being challenged - it is very Clan.

I am just trying to explain my thoughts as best as I can. Hope I have done so and hope you will continue to participate in these challenges.  8)

I see. I honestly wasn't considering the use of SLDF XL engines as anything but a production choice, just like the use of airframes from old SLDF fighters stockpiled. There's no rules difference between them for aerospace fighters (although realistically they would be different so the prototype should use the same one as the production model). The mixed-tech objection is reasonable - parts compatibility is an issue.

I don't usually have Clans co-operating because they're generally more interested in competition.

Quicksilver has been an interesting mix of Clan competitive cooperation which is what I was going for. I can't wait to get to the next phase cause of all the possibilities.

The Kubulai remains a non-contender I should add.

The Rapier is out of production so it's a build new factory/use stockpiles matter just like the 260XL engines. So much for that and for any design that isn't being built - which is pretty much the Xerxes or maybe fiddling around with something that starts out lighter or heavier.

Which leaves me the limited amusement of building within rather tight constraints or of submitting joke entries that have no chance at all of winning.

(Oh, and the Hellfury 60-ton werewolf is also disqualified by this since that requires Lupus chassis to use and the Lupus is out of production. I guess I didn't win that one after all did I?)

It's your contest, Takiro, so you make the rules. You don't seem to have considered the consequences of changing this ruling now though.

That is incorrect. Yes the Rapier is out of production, so was the Lupus, and the Nova (just off the top of my head) but the later two won their contests. It remains to be seen if the Kubulai will or not.  ;)

Some Clan design in production which is simply being modularized (aka upgraded to Omni designation) is the cat's meow. Dropping or adding weight is a significant modification almost akin to developing a new engine which in my estimation is a time consuming and costly endeavor. So if your going to be ultra stringent you can drop them too. I generally view venerable design from say earlier eras (Golden Century or Star League) which does not use mixed tech in production (XL Engine or EndoSteel) as a secondary ideal basis for a Quicksilver design. Starting from scratch is the final option.

Quicksilver for better or worse (and yeah you can argue the merits of the whole idea) is a rapid building program for new Clan arms designed to fill in any gaps.

Okay. Sorry if I was a bit difficult. Here's the 340XL entrant you were hinting you wanted.

Code: [Select]
Class/Model/Name:  Cimmerian
Tech:              Clan / 3052
Vessel Type:       Aerospace Fighter
Rules:             Level 2, Standard design
Rules Set:         AeroTech2

Mass:              85 tons
Frame:
Power Plant:       General Systems 340 XL Fusion
Safe Thrust:       6
Maximum Thrust:    9
Armor Type:        Composition B Ferro-Aluminium
Podspace:          45.5 tons
Manufacturer:      Homer Orbital Aeropsace Facility M13
  Primary Factory: Homer
Communications System:  Omni 7
Targeting & Tracking System:  Valiant 2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview:
The Smoke Jaguars have long considered improving upon the aged Xerxes to provide themselves with a top-notch aerospace heavyweight platform. Several attempts had been made to arrange the necessary resources, the closest anyone had come being the recent development of the Sabutai in recent years. This has left the Lootera Spaceworks fully commited however so the possibility of adapting the design for the Quicksilver project seemed out of reach.

Ultimately the need to arrange resources to re-equip their touman after the losses on Luthien and Tukkayid forced Khan Lincoln Osis to accept his saKhan's proposal to exchange not only the Xerxes rights and a considerable amount of technical data to Clan Cloud Cobra but also to offer to trade the necessary engine parts for General Systems 340 XL reactors for a share of the production.

For their part the Cloud Cobras were happy to offer the Smoke Jaguars substantial shipments of raw materials from the Tanite worlds for the opportunity to add a new heavyweight design to their arsenal, aiming to surpass the Jade Falcon's infamous Scytha.

Capabilities:
The Cloud Cobras took inspiration not only from the Xerxes but also reports of the DCA's formidable Slayer heavy aerospace fighters. The Smoke Jaguars and Nova Cats had both learned grudging respect for the range and durability of the Kurita design so the Cobra scientists retained the Xerxes generous fuel capacity and increased its armour protection by a solid 30%.

As a result the Cimmerian can slightly exceed the Scytha's payload, although it doesn't carry quite the same degree of cooling systems making it rather more limited in its ability to carry heavy loads of energy weapons.

In primary configuration the Cimmerian mounts several lasers in the wings but the focus of the armament is a trio of ultra-autocannon in the nose for a brutal hammer blow reminiscent to that of the Xerxes nose guns. A single aft-mounted laser provides rear defense.

The Cimmerian A replaces the autocannon with a pair of Gauss Rifles and upgrades the wing lasers to large pulse lasers with two aft medium pulse lasers. A hidden sting in this configuration is the small missile launcher. Cloud Cobra envisage the use of inferno missiles and potentially other specialist loads.

The B configuration carries five missile launchers and two extended range lasers for long range engagements, generating considerable heat. Additional lasers and a targeting computer can make the fighter an impressive sniper though, before closing in to smother a target with LRMs.

The Cimmerian C is relatively simple with a pair of nose-mounted PPCs and each wing bringing to bear short range missile volleys. With the most heatsinks of any configuration, it can even risk a full alpha-strike.

Don't apologize drak, this is great! Abele also filled a 340XL entry named the Comanche.

Also drakensis I wanted to thank you for making such a passionate and reasoned case for some pretty good designs. I have been looking over a few concepts I have really liked and considering awarding some supplemental OmniFighter slots. There is room in the current Clan industrial complex for them especially considering that I am having trouble justifying front line vehicle production in many Clans. 51 OmniMech designs in full production with 17 OmniFighters is what I was first thinking but now bumping that number of craft up slightly seems fair to me. I would like to hear what you guys think.

With 5 entries this shaping up into another great contest!

Just waiting on masterarminas to finish up the Hun, and anyone else who would like to jump in of course is more than welcome.  ;) Remember Friday midnight is deadline time.

Most of the fluff is up . . . I just have capabilities, configurations, and deployment to post later tonight or tomorrow morning.  Will definitely have it all up before Friday, but I think it explains well just how the Scorpions, Coyotes, and Jaguars manage to work together (sort of).

That's what he has been doing with last two or three designs at least.

Some pretty tough competition all the way around Abele. Only 6 hours left if you want to get in on this one folks.  ;)
