Who let the dogs out? Anyway here is the Coyote Supplemental for the Quicksilver OmniFighter phase. One of the most intriguing concepts presented during the initial aerospace entries was the medium fighter designed for close air support with super heavy armor. While the 55 ton Pashtun and the 65 ton Timur presented by drakensis embodied this “flying brick” model the best there was one other. The 55 ton Arapaho by Abele actually beat out the Pashtun in Quicksilver 22 and put forward another interesting angle. Envisioning a design triumvirate (Mech, Fighter, & Vehicle) of fifty-five ton war machines using interchangeable components like the 275XL Fusion Engine is very appealing.

So I would love to see a medium weight fighter (50 to 70 tons) with impressive durability (superior armor protection) that could tie into a Clan Main Battle Tank and an existing OmniMech. Now that could give a slightly revised Arapaho a unique advantage as it is closely related to the 55 ton Jackal (aka the Pariah or Septicemia from the canon timeline) and the yet to be unveiled Manitou from Abele. However, that maybe impossible given that the two OmniMechs the Coyotes produce are heavier Assaults (85 ton Savage Coyote and the 100 ton Menoetius). Only one of the three Dog series BattleMechs (35 ton Dingo, 55 ton Jackal, and 75 ton Hyena) that will fill out their current primary manufacturing really fits.

There might be a better option somewhere that I am not seeing and with five possible medium weight frames anything could happen. The armored fighter concept was originally developed by the Hell’s Horses and I could see the Coyotes working with that Clan on this project. Both are relatively close allies and could team up on this fighter as well as others (OmniVehicle). Since the Coyotes are a ground focused Clan I think the Yotes could do this on their own. I will leave it up to you. Oh and since the Coyote spirit has the American Indian flavor why don’t we use that as a source for potential names.

==Overview:==

Using the same principle behind the Arapaho, Clan Coyote scientists
used several mothballed Royal Gotha airframes and fitted them with
powerplants from the indigenously produced Canis battlemech. This gave
the new Shoshone Omnifighter the same thrust profile as the heavier
Jagatai. Designed as an aircraft to support Clan Coyote ground forces
in combat, the Shoshone is a heavily armored fighter with increased
combat range. The seventeen tons of ferro-aluminum armor is more protection
than most fighters twenty or more tons heavier. With the six tons of fuel
carried aboard, the Shoshone can stay in the air longer, thus it is
capable of providing greater support to Coyote forces on the ground or
maintain a longer CAP while in orbit.

To better perform its mission, energy based weapons would form the core of
three of the four configurations that would be made available to the new
Shoshone.

==Configurations:==

Prime: Keeping with the intended purpose of the craft, the Prime features
a trio of extended range PPCs backed up by a pair of wing-mounted medium
pulse lasers. A total of sixteen double heat sinks are carried as well.

A: Like the Prime, the A features an energy-based weaponry in the form of
a trio of large pulse lasers backed up by a quartet of extended range medium lasers
spread between the nose and wings. Like the Prime, a total of sixteen heatsinks are
mounted to handle the heat buildup.

B: As with the Prime and the A, the B configuration features an energy-based
battery. In this instance a quartet of extended range large lasers provide the bulk of
the firepower. These are backed up by afoursome of small pulse lasers. Eighteen
double heatsinks help keep the B model flying.

C: This model is aberrant configuration as it features ammunition-based weaponry.
A gauss Rifle with two tons of ammunition is mounted in the nose. Sharing the nose
firing arc are two extended medium lasers. In each wing a medium pulse laser and a six-tube
Streak SRM launcher have been mounted to give this variation increased short-range capabilities.
No additional heat sinks have been mounted.

The what, the what and the what? Are those original designs of yours? I think the names Jackal and Hyena are already in use in the Inner Sphere.

Overview:
The Coyotes have been able to buy Jagatai's from their Clan Wolf allies almost from its introduction and with aerospace losses in the Inner Sphere, the Wolf Khans were approachable on the prospect of contracting Coyote factories to sub-contract parts to expand production. The Coyotes, however, went beyond this and refurbished the Drennan Industrialplex to build not only the engines (variants of the same engine had once been built there for the Coyotl OmniMech) but also to assemble some of the parts into partial airframes.

Not wishing to alienate an old ally, particularly a Warden Clan, the Wolves cut a deal. The Coyotes could build an omnifighter using the airframes being assembled so long as it wasn't a Jagatai clone and so long as they got a share of the output in addition to the existing flow of parts for their own construction. The Coyote Clan Council balked until they were reminded that Khan Natasha Kerensky had a command circuit ready to bring her keshik all the way back to the Home Worlds to take the matter to Trial.

As an additional punishment, the Wolves cancelled an impending deal to license the electronics for the Jagatai to the Coyotes. As a result the Coyotes had to make a new deal, this time with the Diamond Sharks, to complete the Mohave. They've also secured a deal to supply surplus engines to the Nova Cats or vice versa if either clan falls short of 280XL engines.

Capabilities:
The Mohave matches the Jagatai and most Inner Sphere dog-fighters in acceleration, but this isn't its primary role. Wrapped in twenty tons of Ferro-Aluminium, the Mohave is intended to survive strikes from most air-defense systems and anti-fighter turrets on dropships and warships. Fuel allowance is average for a Clan design - something that clans facing the Inner Sphere may find insufficient.

The primary configuration is loaded for strafing runs, drawing much from the Jagatai Prime (all configurations owe much to the Jagatai counterparts) with paired PPCs and pulse lasers in the wings. Nose mounted LRMs add to long-range punch and an aft pulse laser is provided to deal with interceptors.

The Mohave A is intended for close strikes, using a formidable nose mounted autocannon and Streak SRMs. Two aft-mounted lasers cover against tail-gaters and the nose also includes a long-range lasers for opening salvos.

B configuration is for long range strikes, retaining the wing PPCs of the Primary but mounting a gauss rifle in the nose. The Mohave B has enough ammunition for extended battles but inside gravity wells may lack the fuel for them.

In C Configuration the Mohave is a compromise with a large laser and LRMs for long range fire and a heavy autocannon for close strikes. A pulse laser covers the rear and this is the only configuration that carries additional fuel.

The Dingo is JPArtbiter's 35 ton Society entry that the Coyotes will be fielding to supplement their forces along with the Jackal (AKA the Pariah or Septicemia) and the Hyena (another 75 ton Arbiter creation that went by the name Arctic Horror - essentially a Clan Hammerhands). While not true OmniMechs (Pocket Omnis) they are part of a certain resurgence planned by somebody as part of this new timeline.

Oh and as for their InnerSphere counterparts this is 3052 so both the Jackal (TRO3055 introduced in 3052) and the Hyena (TRO3075 introduced in 3067) could be affected by butterfly wings.  ;)

Other than thinking it's probably a Jagatai airframe with the engine from a Summoner (70-ton ASF and 350XL engines otherwise not being all that common), nothing really sprang to mind. And how would Coyotes get an engine that's primarily built by the Green Pigeons?

According to Sarna, Clan Hell's Horses also produce the Summoner in the St. Louis Mechworks plant on Niles.  Including the Redline 350XL engine.

The frame?  Yeah, there is a serious dearth of 70-ton ASF/OF frames.
