Taskforce 3145
« on: April 07, 2014, 09:37:29 PM »

My goal is to add a taskforce for each of the major factions.  Towards that end, I needed help with:

1. choosing a warship as flagship for each faction's taskforce.
2. coming up with good flavorful names for the ships
3. choosing a group of dropships, etc. to accompany each flagship

For example, say I introduced a new Avalon-class named the Harrison Davion.  That's my flagship.  What would the board's suggestions be for the rest of the taskforce?

Thanks in advance,

Sorry to be silly, but for the FSN is can only really be FSS Bludgeon, FSS Hammer, FSS Ram, FSS Sledge and FSS Plough.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

For an Avalon Flag since you're going WarShip return I'd say

4 Fox

Bringing back more fun times I'd expand to

2-4 Fox
2 Davion III
1 New Syrtis
1 Robinson

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

What about a Kirishima-class cruiser as the flagship for the Draconis Combine taskforce?
Say the DCS Chandrasekhar Kurita?

As for the Lyrans, that one is a little easier as they still have the Mjolnir-class Yggdrasil in service according to DA sources.  That or the Invincible which I think survived the Jihad too.

On the FWL front I was thinking the Thera-class Heracleion with the Eagle-class vessels Elaine and Isolde as escorts.

Capellans I was thinking of a Feng Huang but I have no ideas on a shipname yet.

ok so far, everyone?

The Feng Huang you will christen the CCS Sun-tzu Liao (The spirit of Xin Sheng demands this) and give it 3-5 Impavidos as escort.

sounds good to me  :)

Here's what I have thus far:

Federated Suns=Harrison Davion (Avalon-class)+Fox-class escorts

Draconis Combine=Chandrasekhar Kurita (Kirishima-class)

Free Worlds League=Heracleion(Thera class) with escorts Elaine and Isolde (Eagle class)

Capellans=Sun-Tzu Laio (Feng Huang class)+Impavido class escorts

Lyrans=Yggdrasil (Mjolnir-class)

I don't have escorts picked out for the 'Uncle Chandy' or the Yggdrasil.
Also I don't have any associated dropships figured out.

I'd have a pair of Tatsumaki and a pair of Inazuma for the DC instead of a Kirishima I'd take a Kyushu.

For the Mjolinir it would have to be Foxes

two Kirishima class Cruiser and two Inazuma class Corvette would be a good escort

Why Chandrasekhar Kurita instead of a former Coordinator such as Theodore or Shiro

Chandresekhar is arguably one of the greatest heroes of the Combine, if one looks at his deeds.  Before Stone it was him that was getting the Inner Sphere to actually look at the Word of Blake rather then each other.

onto ships, I would favor the Combine reactivating a third Block of those Destroyers from the 2750 field report.

JP got exactly why I picked Uncle Chandy.  The Jihad books were some of the first Battletech sourcebooks I read and he's cool in them.
That and I thought it would be in character for new coordinator Yori Kurita (Sakamoto) to name a ship honoring a famous Kurita but a kinda fringe, atypical one like herself.  It seemed like something she would do to honor her family and cheese off Toronaga!  Would she go as far as naming one of the escort's after Franklin?

You guys seemed to favor Inazuma and Tatsumaki class ships for the escorts it appears.  Maybe a Kyushu too.  So I may go with 1 each of those three classes to go with the Uncle Chandy.

Any name suggestions for the three other ships?  Honoring Vincent or Theodore is probably a good idea.  Going with both of these, that leaves 1 escort left to name.

So true. Unfortunately, given the DC's propensity to only value heroic martial deeds, his efforts to defeat the WoB will likely relegate him to a mere footnote in Combine history. Besides, he consorted with gaijin mercenaries. No true Kurita would conspire with such honorless sellswords!  ;)

I think I'll rename the Lyran warship to the Gungnir (i.e. Odin's Spear from Norse mythology).

Do you guys have any suggestions on attached dropships for each taskforce?

Also do you have any good ideas for Clan warships for the Spirit Cats and Steel Wolves?

Thanks in advance,

Steel Wolf flagship: Black Lion-class battlecruiser SWS Megatron, escorted by Essex-class destroyers SWS Starscream, SWS Skywarp and SWS Thundercracker.
