Thought I would try my hand at a couple of new Taurian Concordat DropShips. The first--the Concordat class--is a what if design. What if the TDF used the maniple system for their 'Mech units as well as their armor?
The second, . . . well, we'll get that one.

==Overview:==
The first Concordat class DropShip flew in December of 3011. The historic
flight marked the first launch of a DropShip that was imagined, designed, and
constructed in Taurian shipyards by Taurian shipbuilders since the end of the
Reunification Wars. The necessity of this new design was dictated by
Protector Thomas Calderon's decision in 3006 to begin adopting the Maniple
system in BattleMech forces.
Already in use in the Concordat armored forces, this system which assigns two
BattleMechs to the maniple and three maniples to the lance increases the
strength of a company-sized formation by 50%. For decades, the strength of
the big battalions of the Armored Corps had served as the backbone of the
Taurian Defense Force, which the BattleMech Force had tried to match by adding
a fourth company to every battalion.
The new TDF 'Mech Battalions would revert to three company battalions, but
overall strength of each battalion would rise from 48 to 54 BattleMechs, plus
8 Aerospace Fighters, and a cavalry scout troop consisting of a dozen
hovercraft, six VTOLs, and ninety infantry troopers.
However, these new and even bigger battalions would need a new breed of
transport DropShips--using existing Unions and Leopards would place too much
strain on the Concordats limited number of JumpShips. Thus, plans were begun
for the Concordat-class Troop Carrier.
This spheriod DropShip masses 5,400 tons (1,800 tons heavier than the standard
Union-class, but 4,300 tons lighter than an Overlord-class). Although the
Protector and several senior naval officers were concerned about the need to
manufacture a new engine, the design team reminded the high-ranking officials
that the Union already used four engines to provide its thrust. As the
proposed Concordat would be 50% heavier, they simply wanted to use six
engines--and it worked.
Armor protection was increased by one and a half tons, and both designs
retained the same structural integrity. Armament was radically changed,
however, with the new Concordat relying on six twin large-laser turrets and
six triple medium-laser turrets for defense. The designers did incorporate
sufficient heat sinks to allow for all twelve weapon turrets to fire
simultaneously.
Unlike the Union, the Concordat does not carry any aerospace fighters, but
instead has eighteen BattleMech bays and drop-chutes. Extensive space has
been devoted to quarters for the thirty-six MechWarriors and Techs, as well as
space for fourteen passengers and the crew of ten. General supplies and life
support are provided to last for 180 days under optimum conditions, and fuel
tankage is also rated at 180 G-days.
One hundred and thirty-five tons of spare parts are stored aboard, and the
design is fitted with ten escape pods in case of emergency. For the troops
assigned to a Concordat, there is ample space for the storage of cargo--up to
383 tons can be loaded onboard ship.
With the restored Chandler yards at Samantha and New Columbia only able to
produce three Concordat-class ships a year, the TDF has only been able to
restructure a single battalion per year, beginning with the three elite
battalions of the Taurian Guard in 3012. Currently, fourteen battalions have
been restructured, leaving an additional thirteen that use the old formation.
