==Overview:==
For years unstable Lord Jonathan Cameron devoted vast Star League Defense
Force (SLDF) resources towards automated space defense systems which helped
the League’s focus of fortifying Hegemony worlds. Mother Jocasta Cameron
assumed most of the first Lord’s duties in 2734 and, in response to the
increase of the Star League Member States militaries, issued the New Arms
Order of 2735 which would help the SLDF maintain its superiority with new
ships and weapons.
Jocasta Cameron recognized the value of regular crewed units and proceeded
in the direction to emphasize Warships. To that end, she had the Blue Nose
Clipperships (BNC) manufacturer produce the Vanguard class Warship at their
Mars facility. The contract with BNC specified the new Warship to be capable
of repairing any known Warship. Although Jocasta did not say it at the time,
she also ensured the design, given enough time, was actually able to build
Warships.
While the primary function of the Vanguard is to repair Warships, it has an
extensive sensor and communications suite, allowing it to function as a
command ship. The design has the armor and firepower to repell all but the
most devastating of attacks. The Vanguard posseses more armor and firepower
than a typical shipyard as it may have to operate closer to the front lines
and/or independently. Towards the aft section of the ship there is an
observation tower which provides a spectacular view of the ship and
surrounding space. Although heavily shielded, the tower is not normally manned
during combat.
The crew quarters are comfortable with a luxurious Captain's and Admiral's
quarters along with first class quarters for visiting V.I.P.s. A sizeable
contigent of Marines provide security and a strong deterrent to boarding
actions against the vessel. The hull was dotted with numerous Anti-Fighter and
Point Defense Batteries (PDB) since the design carries no fighters. With the
exception of the PDB, its armament is energy based, making it even more
logistically independent.
To help save weight for the Naval Shipyard, the structural integrity of the
ship is low which is partially compensated with the use of advanced armor. It
has the supplies to keep it and other naval units operational for extended
periods of time. The first and only ship of its class was launched in 2750. It
is unclear what happened to it during the collapse of the Star League as it
has yet to be seen in the Clan or Inner Sphere Navies.
