Aleksandr Kerensky-class Troop Cruiser (Light)

Expedition class Jumpship

Rather than waste resources on the construction of new military transports like the Potemkin, the Volga, or the Carrack the Free Guilds proposed a massive civilian transport. Even with Lithium Fusion Battery and Lamellor Ferro Carbide armor it was a much cheaper solution than a compact core ship. Easier to maintain and faster to build because of their smaller size this jumpship also freed up warriors for combat duty. The 5 Officers and 25 Crewmen that would compose the ship's staff are made up of the lower castes looking to do their part.

Designed as a mega hauler this jumpship is larger than the Clan Odyssey, the ancient Leviathan, or even the massive Monolith. Its main function is to facilitate the Clan war effort by transporting seven dropships from the Clan Homeworlds to the Occupation Zone as frequently as possible.

With enough fuel space (300 tons) for a 2 and half month journey and a 500 ton cargo bay this vessel is able to minimize stopovers for resupply. Two Large Grav Decks (150 meters in diameter) allow the crew and docked passengers to "stretch their legs" during these trips.

As a civilian craft it lacks any armament and carries no warriors whatsoever. However it is well protected with two hundred and sixty six tons of Lamellor Ferro Carbide armor. Incredibly this outmatches several Star League era Destroyers including the Lola III in terms of sheer durability.

Refit Notes: (early 3068)
Standard Naval Lasers 55s replaced by the new Naval Pulse Laser 60s

Overview:
The Sphinx is a riddle. How this near copy of the Free Worlds League Thera class Carrier made its way into the Cloud Cobra Touman is still a source of many questions. After a two year investigation here is what we have uncovered. A relatively new faction of the Word of Blake named the Inheritors appears to be responsible. Established in early 3061 by Precentor Gillian Taylor the new sect is made up of former Shunners, ex-One Star Faith followers, and Periphery Inheritors Creed adherents. The Inheritors believe that the InnerSphere is doomed to an endless series of wars that culminate in a Great Cataclysm. Only then will the citizens of the InnerSphere call for the Inheritors and establish a new Golden Age that will surpass even the greatness of the Star League. The group has rapidly grown in power especially where it is based the old Rim Worlds. Recently the Ruling Conclave has bestowed the unusual title of Precentor of the Rift on Taylor instead of giving the faction a seat on the Conclave. Apparently this was proposed by the True Believers because the Toyama has a tense relationship with the Inheritors. Despite the Word of Blake’s connection to the Free Worlds League it is a mystery how the Inheritors obtained the Thera design. Perhaps it was another part of the Conclave’s compromise. What is concerning is that the Inheritors carried out some of the construction on the new warship that possibly indicates a secret shipyards located in the somewhere within the Rift. Another mystery is how the Inheritors began their relationship with Clan Cloud Cobra. What is known is that now that relationship seems to be thriving and there is even talk of a new Cloister based on the ideals of the Inheritors. What the Inheritors got in exchange for the Sphinx is unknown at this time.

Capabilities:
Despite looking almost exactly like the Thera the Clan warship is much more formidable. The Sphinx adds Clan Lamellor Ferro-Carbide, more than 1720 tons, for increased protection. However, on the surface it appears that the Sphinx has a weaker armament than the Thera dropping the Heavy Naval Gausses, the Barracuda Missile Launchers, and six Naval Autocannon 30s. All Naval Lasers were upgraded to 55s and standard weapons are all Clan tech. All these weapons are arrayed in a Uniform Firing Arc for more of a defensive posture than actual offensive firepower. The designs most impressive capability is that the Sphinx carries 450 Aerospace Fighters, an entire galaxy! (Organized into 5 clusters of 90 or 3 of 150). The weapons taken off the ship provide more than 74,500 tons of cargo space, ample for supplying fighters in the field. Five docking collars and ten small craft further supplement the Sphinx maybe even giving the Carrier ability to challenge the mighty Leviathan.

Deployment:
Clan Cloud Cobra immediately attached the Sphinx to Delta Galaxy were it served during the Wars of Possession. It’s performance so impressed the Khans that they have ordered one additional Sphinx to be built by the Inheritors. In addition the Clan has ordered the renovation of the Tracial Steiner (Valkyrie class Destroyer) in order to protect their new Carrier force. Snow Raven acquired the Sphinx design from the Cobras in exchange for the new Naval Pulse Lasers that are currently being placed on the Sphinx in place of Naval Lasers. The Ravens commenced construction immediately and their Sphinx should enter service sometime late in 3068. Star Adder has also ordered a Sphinx through their contacts in the Cloud Cobra Clan from the Inheritors. Whatever these Blakist are receiving in exchange for these three warships is a complete mystery despite our best attempts to find out. Other Clans (especially Jade Falcon and Diamond Shark) have expressed interest in acquiring the design.

Hellion's Pride

By canon, we know that three Mako-class Corvettes journeyed on the Exodus and survived until the Wars of Reaving.  Two (Ingrid Bucharev and Stone Crab) were reactivated from Naval Caches by the reborn Clan Burrock; the third (Fuchida) was operated by either the Dark Caste or the Society . . . it isn't clear which.

But why were the Makos left in the caches to begin with?  The most maneuverable and fastest to accelerate WarShips ever built, they would appeal to one Clan which values speed and light-weight designs over slow-moving, heavier chassis'.  I speak, my friends, of Clan Ice Hellion.

From canon, the Hellions owned three Fredasa-class corvettes . . . 25,000 tons lighter than the Mako and slower (5/8 thrust vs. 6/9!!).  Certainly, the Fredasa is a good ship, but we can do better for our pack-mates, quiaff?

Showing here.

Yeah, we changed up the weapons.  We got rid of the big heavy NAC-20s and NAC-25s, the NL-35s, the Light and Medium N-PPCs, and all secondary guns.  Instead, our design mounts seven NL-45s in single mounts (one each in the fore-quarters, broadsides, stern-quarters, and aft), one White Shark missile launcher (with 50 . . . yeah, you heard me, FIFTY missiles stored), and a Heavy Naval PPC; the latter two mounted in the nose.

Why, you ask?  Good question.  The NL-45s give good all-around coverage to our new Pride and Joy (sorry, couldn't resist), while the White Shark provides crit-seeking goodness and the H-N-PPC excellent punch.  Plus with our maneuverability, this means that we can almost always keep our nose pointed at the enemy!

Secondary weapons:  we know from canon designs that the Hellions like missiles (. . . and they cannot lie).  So, we put missiles on your missiles, dawg.  Yo.  Each arc mounts three triple-mount LRM-15 launchers with Artemis IV (40 salvoes per launcher) and three triple-mount Streak SRM-6 packs (with 30 salvoes per launcher):  seventy-two LRM-15s and another seventy-two SRM-6s for a total salvo size of 1,512 missiles (plus one White Shark) each and every round (well, if the Streaks lock, that is).

Egads!  Now, THAT is a missile corvette, paw-paw!  The cooling system gets reworked so that we can fire EVERYTHING in one massive salvo.  Plus, we saved enough tonnage to add a docking collar and ten fighter bays.  Yeah.  Armor was changed to ferro-carbide and we mount 200 tons giving us a really tough hide (for a 200,000 ton WarShip, that is!).

AND we were able to expand cargo space by nearly 200% to over 2,500 tons (yeah, the cargo sucks, but 2,500 is better than 900 any day of the week, am I right?).

Sure, we lost some throw-weight.  Sure, this thing carries less fuel than other Clan designs, along with less air and life support and food and water, giving it roughly one-third the endurance.  But we also added Lithium-fusion batteries and an HPG . . . and that has got to be worth something.  Besides, with our new found docking collar, we can always tack on a Mule with additional supplies if we really need it.

Yeah, it doesn't have that massive 50-point punch that the Mako of old had.  But overall, I think it is a better ship.  Overall, firepower is just about the same . . . with pretty much better range across the board.  It ain't quite so concentrated anymore, but that is a tactical problem that the Hellions are used to handling.

Okay, then.  How about we replace those three Hellion Fredasas (Hellion's Pride, Swift Bait, and Whelp) with these ships?  Doesn't THAT make more sense to you?  It does to me.  And it gives the Hellions THE fastest WarShips in the known Galaxy.  Tell me that ain't something an Ice Hellion wants to boast about.

Well my post just got wrecked. I have been working on this project and been evaluating warships circa 3052 for use. I will repost tomorrow with more time.

Nice job on the Mako refit although I would have gone in another direction. Plus I find the Fredasa very useful and practical.

Again I had a whole page.  >:(

Got three designs in the works and an evaluation of these classes as well.  ;)

Fredasa class Corvette/Raider (180,000 tons) 5/8
Carrack class Transport (300,000 tons) 3/5
Vincent Mk42 class Corvette (420,000 tons) 4/6
Whirlwind class Destroyer (520,000 tons) 4/6
York class Destroyer/Carrier (600,000 tons) 4/6
Essex II class Destroyer (620,000 tons) 3/5
Lola III class Destroyer (680,000 tons) 4/6
Aegis class Heavy Cruiser (750,000 tons) 2/3
Congress class Frigate (760,000 tons) 3/5
Conqueror Class Battlecruiser/Carrier (780,000 tons) 5/8
Volga class Transport (780,000 tons) 2/3
Black Lion II class Battlecruiser (810,000 tons) 3/5
Liberator class Heavy Cruiser (830,000 tons) 3/5

Blizzard-Class Heavy Cruiser (SovSoy Refit)

I post this as a possible alternative to the Leviathan/Conqueror pairing the Bears and Ravens were cooking up Pre-Revival, refitting Sovetskii Soyuz's instead seems a much faster and cheaper option.

The Ghost Bear designers started by trimming the cavernous cargo bays down to 100,491 tons (cut it down to an even 100k initially, then threw in the remaining tonnage at the end) freeing up slightly more then one hundred thousand tons to improve the ship. Improvements to the hull itself include upgrading the cooling system, allowing the commander full use of the ships fire power. The armour has also been greatly improved by coating the ship in Lamellor Ferro-Carbide, a great big 1,200 tons of the stuff giving it armour similar to a McKenna. The fighter bays were increased by 50% allowing the Blizzard to hold a full Trinary of aerospace fighters. Finally larger, more powerful engines were installed, allowing the ship to generate 2.5G's of acceleration, whilst also making the ship less vulnerable to engine damage.

And then those scientists moved to the firepower; packing the Blizzard with numerous standard-scale weapons to fend off fighter attacks; point defense batteries in every facing to protect the ship from capital missles; and a large and powerful array of capital-scale guns focused mainly on the broadsides. The Fore capital missile bay has had its number of tubes doubled to 4, whilst the fore and aft quarters have had their naval guns replaced with the NAC/20's previously found in the broadside, where the hole they left behind has been filled in by no less then 12 Medium N-PPC's split between 3 bays and 4 pairs of Killer Whale capital missile tubes. The aft bay continues to lack any guns for engaging another warship, but the designers felt that if they are showing the aft to the enemy something has already gone terribly wrong anyway.

After designing the Blizzard the Ghost Bears of course ran into the small problem of where to do the necessary refitting, though they did not have to think about it overly long before going to their close friends in Clan Snow Raven, offering them the resources to refit a SovSoy to a Blizzard of their own in return for each ship they rebuilt for the Bears, an offer the Ravens accepted without hesitation.

The Soyuz is definitely on my to do list but after research I am afraid at least for the Clarion Call story line we are locked into the Leviathan and Conqueror. I got a shit ton of more thoughts but haven't had the time to computerize them. Soon hopefully! In the mean time please keep the ideas coming!!

I think that you could add the Nightlord to your list as well as that ship is a Clan specific design. Addditionally, the York, Fredasa and Carrack classes should be considered as well as they are either new designs (Fredasa) or re-designs of SLDF ships that went into full-scale production (York/Carrack)

Real quick let me throw the existing Clan warships into a few categories.

There are three (3) classes that I would call brand new or completely original Clan Warships. These vessels were not based on any existing design that I know of. Please correct me if I am wrong.
- Fredasa Class Corvette (Raider),  Nightlord Class Battleship, Leviathan Class Battleship

Another three (3) classes are what I would call Clan Rebuilds. These warships heavy been completely refurbished from previously existing Star League designs (previous class). They have under gone significant changes.
- York (Riga II) Class Destroyer/Carrier, Liberator (Avatar) Class Heavy Cruiser, Conqueror (Kimagure) Class Battlecruiser/Carrier

A dozen (12) are just Star League Refits that have undergone Clan upgrades but are not significantly different from their predecessor.
- Vincent Class Corvette, Essex II Class Destroyer, Lola III Class Destroyer, Volga Class Transport, Congress Class Frigate, Aegis Class Heavy Cruiser, Sovetskii Soyuz Class Heavy Cruiser, Potemkin Class Troop Cruiser, Black Lion II Class Battlecruiser, Cameron Class Battlecruiser, Texas Class Battleship, McKenna Class Battleship

Two (2) Question Marks. The Carrack Class Transport is a Star League design which has not change all that much but is being built by the Clans. The Whirlwind Class Destroyer was refurbished by the Star League from the Davion class Destroyer but has not been changed much by the Clans.

Well, if the Blizzard isn't replacing the Lev/Conq pair, perhaps with a name change and slightly different fluff it could be the response to the Bears and Ravens building those monsters from another clan/s? The Hells Horses or Steel Vipers perhaps?

Interested in opinions about the ship itself, first time posting a warship design.

Interested in opinions about the ship itself, first time posting a warship design.

You got it Smegish!

Well let me go with the name first off. Blizzard is good one as presented for this Ghost Bear/ Snow Raven project. If the scope widened to more than just those two Clans I would go in another direction. Since the original Sovetskii Soyuz was Russian for Soviet Union and that was the language of Kerensky I will be going in that direction for my version.

Lowering the cargo is a must and you did that nicely cutting the original amount in half. Generally I like to reserve 5% to 10% of the vessel’s mass for cargo which here would be 41,500 to 83,000 tons. With approximately 100k tons you stayed above those standards which allow the vessel to operate far from base a must for the Clans who have a long journey from the Homeworlds to the InnerSphere.

The thrust rating for the Soyuz is pathetic, 2/3! Any upgrade has to address this short coming and you did that Smegish. Boosting it to a 3/5 dramatically increases its maneuverability and is very solid for a Heavy Cruiser. One gripe is when you posted your upgrade you retained the interplanetary drives, the Harlan B8-160 Standard. I would rename them something different, something Clan. Doing so would create a clear distinct between the old engines and the new ones.

Now armor for the Soyuz is also pretty low and has to be addressed. Again you did that but I would not have gone for Lamellor Ferro-Carbide. Why? Just a personal limitation based on other designs which the Clans use Ferro-Carbide typically. I would max out armor tonnage for structural integrity which gives you a 207 average per facing. Not as good as yours but perhaps more realistic or practical not maximizing with LFC if that makes since.

Increasing the vessel’s Heat Sinks or as you put it “upgrading the cooling system, allowing the commander full use of the ships fire power” is another must. This is a Heavy Cruiser after all with good anti-ship firepower but its effectiveness was limited by lack of heat sinks to dissipate weapon fire. It should be able to plow through enemy formations firing away as it goes.

I like that you added a Binary of Elementals (50) and went from a Fighter Binary (20) to a Fighter Trinary (30). I might adjust the Small Craft adding two for a total of ten, a full Clan star. Perhaps increasing the Docking Collars like the Dire Wolf would make sense as well although that could increase refit time I suppose.

The original lacks anti-fighter weapons and you added a bunch of conventional weaponry to address that issue. This was a major concern especially after the death of ilKhan Leo Showers at Radstadt. You also managed to remain under 20 weapons per arc and avoid adding significant weight for fire control.

Nice job! Overall I like the Blizzard. Hope you will try your hand again.

Well, cutting the armour back to Ferro-Carbide instead of LFC gives it 188 armour on every facing, still a big improvement over the SovSoy.

I finally have HMA again so here's a possible small ship to serve the Clans' needs as a combat transport, something that can respond quickly to a crisis.

Code: [Select]
Class/Model/Name:  Albert-class Corvette
Tech:              Clan / 3052
Vessel Type:       WarShip
Rules:             Level 2, Standard design
Rules Set:         AeroTech2

Mass:              420,000 tons
Hull:              Templar X-Plate
K-F Drive System:  KF Mark III-c
Length:            402 meters
Sail Diameter:     1,005 meters
Power Plant:       Howser 2G2 "Hotfires" Standard
Safe Thrust:       4
Maximum Thrust:    6
Armor Type:        Delhi 9800 Lamellor Ferro-carbide
Armament:
    1 Killer Whale
40 Series 6b ER Large Laser
    4 NL45
    4 NL55
Manufacturer:   Delhi Warships
  Location:     Carver
Communications System:  Belden 405M
Targeting & Tracking System:  Ulsop Eagle-Eye 12
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Vincent-class corvette, in more than forty variant, had an extensive
history with the Terran Hegemony, the Star League (and many of its member
states) and the Clans. When Clan Cloud Cobra wanted to look at a new corvette
to support their limited touman, they went directly to the Vincent as a
starting point.

Wishing to mark this as their own distinct design, the Khans named the small,
boxy looking ship Albert in honor of Albert Marik, who co-founded the Star
League alongside Ian Cameron.

==Capabilities:==
The Cloud Cobras didn't feel the need for a major warship and instead desgined
the Albert to carry and support one of their Clusters. The internal bays carry
two Aeropsace trinaries, two 'Mech trinaries and two Elemental trinaries. This
may need to be modified if used by Clans with less focus on Aerospace
operations.

The main structural distinction between the Vincent and the Albert is that the
latter can carry a pair of dropships, something the SLDF rarely fitted as a
capability below the level of a frigate or cruiser. This necessitated
substantial changes to the jump core.

A more obvious change is the replacement of the four autocannon with eight
naval lasers, improving the Albert's engagement range. In addition the
Vincent's modest anti-fighter defenses have been expanded from the four
turrets of the Mk 42 Vincent to fully twenty such turrets, closing off the
previous blind-spots to the rear.

==Deployment==
Thus far only two Albert-class corvettes have been completed, the class ship
and the Marion. A third is under construction and the current intention is
continue until every Cluster in Alpha and Beta Galaxy has an assigned
corvette. Currently the Cobra scientists are examining whether the Clan's two
existing Vincent-class corvettes can be rebuilt as Alberts. If not, the Khans
hope to sell the ships off to other Clans to help fund building replacements.
As a further bid to help them afford this ambitious project, the Khans are
quietly sounding out whether other Clans would like to commission the purchase
of Alberts or a variant thereof for their touman.
