Yamoto Factory Ship
« on: March 16, 2013, 01:32:09 AM »

I read (forgot what book) that the DC Yamoto BB was converted to a mobile factory ship, i like the idea and want to use something similar to my long delayed 12th/Beast Clan Alt Project. any ideas or or even some designs some one have might alrready do similiar in nature as a reference ?, i was thinking of using between a 900k to 1.2 Mk design for this idea.

Thanks in advance.

I did a Mobile Factory Complex a while back, unfortunately it seems to have been lost in the board transfer.
Basically it is intended to jump into an uninhabited system and munch asteroids for a few years while JS pick up filled barges of metals and alloys. DS complement are huge cargo barges and specialized tugs as well as a few prospecting ships.

Add an unpressurized bay and then you've got a serious maybe with that.  Although if the DropShips served as your processing plants that would open up space for the bay.  I think the DC will likely be using this thing to produce Pocket WarShips as well as materials/Mechs.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Overview:
The Draconis Combine Admiralty (DCA) after receiving information gathered by the Internal Security Force (ISF) approved construction of a large new Battleship in 2648. This new construction effort was caused by the Lyran Commonwealth who had recently begun work on the massive Asgard class Battleship that would be larger than any other warship even the Star League’s mighty Texas. The Star League was the next to respond beginning work on their now famous McKenna class Battleship. Coordinator Urizen Kurita II was determined that the Draconis Combine would not be left out. The new Battleship was to be a shinning example of Lord Kurita’s "Japanification" of the realm. Work was immediately begun by some of the Combine’s very best engineers at the Luthien Shipyards. Within two years they had completed work on their own very formidable Yamato class Battleship.

Capabilities:
Designers made the new Kurtia flagship the largest possible size (displacing 1,750,000 tons) that Draconis shipyards could accommodate at the time. The Yamato was constructed as a pure ship of battle the ultimate in firepower with cramped living conditions for her crew. Small grav decks and limited numbers of escape craft typify these spartan living conditions. The Yamato was equipped with longer range weapons than the mighty Lyran Asgard. The ships main weapons were forty eight Naval Autocannon/30s that were smaller than the McKenna and Asgard main guns but capable of longer range fire. In addition, thirty two Heavy Naval Particle Projection Cannons and thirty two Naval Laser/55s added to the Yamato’s long range arsenal. Also included on the design were forty eight capital missile launchers of varying types that Kurita engineers favored using on warship designs. Sixteen Killer Whale Missile Launchers, sixteen White Shark Missile Launchers, and sixteen Barracuda Missile Launchers   made up the Yamato’s capital missile armament. Over fifteen thousand heat sinks are more than enough to dissipate all the heat produced by the vessel. The warship’s huge engines are capable of 2.5Gs of thrust at maximum acceleration making the Yamato a quick ship for its size. Mounting almost two thousand eight hundred tons of Improved Ferro Aluminum armor the Battleship could take quite a pounding from opponents. Eight docking collars enable this flagship to carry nearly a flotilla of dropships into system with it. Supporting elements included on board are thirty six aerospace fighters, four small craft, and a reinforced battalion of marines (Jump Infantry type). Finally over one hundred and thirty thousand tons of cargo space allows the vessel to operate for extended periods of time or help supply other warships of a taskforce.
After the Star League was dissolved Kurita warship engineers quickly set about redesigning this ship with the latest technology. The original design’s forty eight Naval Autocannon/30s were replaced by twenty four Heavy Naval Gauss Cannons all positioned in the vessels sides arc (none in Nose or Aft arcs). Also the forty eight capital missile launchers mounted on the original were replaced by sixty AR-10 Missile Launchers which Kurita engineers absolutely adored. Capable of firing any type of capital missile they were one of the most prized technologies developed by the Star League. Heat sinks were removed and converted to double heat sinks improving the Yamato’s heat dissipation rates. The vessels armor plating was now made up of two thousand eight hundred tons of Lamellor Ferro-Carbide providing exceptional protection. A Lithium Fusion Battery was also added to give the Battleship the ability to double jump. Crew requirements were also slightly reduced but were the second version differed the most from the original was cargo space. Only fifty six thousand tons of cargo (just over three percent of the vessels mass) was allotted for cargo. Designers argued that a cargo carrying dropship could easily provided augmentation for the Yamato’s supply situation. However, if built this could have also added to the crew’s poor living conditions while serving the Dragon.

Deployment:
The DCA originally planned to field three of these impressive capital ships by the end of the 2650s. All the Yamato class Battleships were named (just as the class was) in honor of the Japanese Imperial Navy’s ultimate water going battleships of the mid 20th century. The DCS Yamato (to enter service in 2653), the DCS Musashi (to enter service in 2655), and the DCS Shinano (to enter service in 2658) would have taken up immediate station on the border of the Lyran Commonwealth, Terran Hegemony, and Federated Suns respectively. Depending on the first three vessels success other Yamato’s may have been commissioned. The original versions of the Yamato and Asgard would have provided an exciting match up. The Asgard was heavier with more firepower and more armor protection. The Yamato was faster however and featured longer range weapons. The McKenna compared more favorably with the Yamato. Both ships had about the same armor and were just as fast as the other. Again the Yamato’s superior range could have given it an edge over the Star League Battleship. However, the Edict of 2650 put an end to the Yamato (and the Asgard) construction and all work was scrapped.
With dissolution of the Star League the Combine immediately restarted work on the Yamato class. The original design was upgraded using the latest technology (usually obtained by the ISF) and would have been completed around 2788 at the Luthien shipyards. The Lyran Commonwealth whose own revised Asgard would not be complete for another two years immediately took steps to stop this. The LCS Nightwind (Potemkin class Light Cruiser) which escorted the famous Tamar Tigers was charged with the destruction of the Luthien shipyards and the new Yamato under construction there. Executing a series of difficult jumps the Lyrans successfully made their way to the Combine’s capital star system and destroyed the shipyards as well as the Yamato.
The plans for the Yamato were apparently stored away by the People’s Reconstruction Effort (PRE) in hopes of one day completing the design. When the PRE was destroyed by the Combine during the Shadow War it appeared that the Yamato had finally been completely destroyed. However, during the mid-3050s Dr. Takea Suju of the Dover Institute of Higher Learning rediscovered the plans and presented them to the Coordinator. Lord Theodore Kurita immediately commissioned work to begin on building the design above New Samarkand. Many within the Pillar of Steel hoped that the Yamato could replicate the Clans McKenna class Battleship. The ISF soon began to suspect Dr. Suju of being a member of the Guardians of the True Path. This dissident group originally formed prior to the Davion War of Succession during the Star League believed that only close cooperation (unification) between House Kurita and Davion could truly rule the InnerSphere. Long thought extinct the group reemerged with a passion during the Clan War when they predicted a Kurita-Davion alliance would defeat the descendents of Kerensky. Following Takashi’s death certain elements of the Combine government convinced Theodore to crack down on this group or alienate Draconis conservatives. The Black Dragon Society took the opportunity to strike back at their hated enemies of the True Path. Providing information to the ISF and causing numerous design delays eventually led to the Yamato’s scrapping. Suju and his associates escaped before the ISF could interrogate them. Several of the Black Dragons point the finger for this escape squarely at the Order of Five Pillars (O5P). Why they would help the Guardians, a known dissident group of the Combine, is unknown as is the fate of the Yamato design schematics and Dr. Suju.

thanks for the help and general info folks, working on the project right now for my Beast Clan project that I a, slowly building up on my old New Solaris site, used to run a alt universe BT game there, it involed what we called the Realms instead of the Great House's and the map and the names are completly different.
