Fair enough, what mechs are you using?

Actually, since I posted this, the entire formation has changed.  At this point, the supporting conventionals are likely to change, or perhaps be forgone entirely.

Maybe some Maxims or Bandits...their speed and armor are both pretty nice.

Maxims with supporting Maxims or Blizzards with Black Blizzards.

Here's a very important page for PBI users....TacOps p. 108.  The key rule, infantry can use non-infantry units as cover, forcing opponents to suffer a +3 penalty to hit against a unit taking cover against their APC.  The rules are specific, but very useful in that crucial turn were they get dropped off and before they can take proper cover.

Does it work with other non-infantry units such as BattleMechs?

Quote from: TacOps p. 108
If an infantry unit occupies the hex of a non-infantry unit that is on
the ground (including enemy units), they can use that unit for cover.

Does this also apply to battle-armored infantry?

Sadly I do not think so.  Would be awesome if it did.  The rules section states that these rules apply to infantry units.  I guess it depends on if BA fall under the infantry category or not.

Think we could get a campaign GM ruling on that one?

You don't need one.  Total Warfare states that whenever the rules refer to "infantry" non-specifically, it is discussing both Battle Armor & conventional infantry.
