Somewhere in the Finmark Province

I did some snowshoe walking this week-end and I got an idea that I need to think out loud a little.

Why not mix Midwinter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwinter_%28video_game%29 and Transartica http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transarctica

The basic idea would be to have a really cold planet with the only resources being water (frozen one), which makes it a treasure for the Rim Worlds Republic.
The settlements would be centred around geothermal plants with small militia outposts.

The main strategical transportation infrastructure would be railways with a central point at the place of the original landing (where the government and the few BattleMechs, tanks would be centralised).

Tech level except for the few BattleMechs would be ICE at best (even if I think that cold would prevent their efficient use).

I like it maybe underground railways or passages to protect assets from snow/avalanches and corrosion.

Ice would slow down Mechs but would boost there heat efficency I'm betting Hovercraft would be the primary source of transport above ground

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

I am still trying to figure the general climate (only winter, brief summer with a lot of seismic activity...).
Once I have set my mind, it will be easier.
