3025 IS Map with Deployments

Attached is the first attempt by bobthecoward and I for showing the deployments of the major miliaries in certain eras.

If you have any comments of see any errors, please list them below and we will prodice a version 2 and make that our template for ongoing work.

Only suggestion I would have is for planets like Tikonov or Regions loke the Taurian Concordat, set up another frame to show those areas with less clutter.  There's a lot of whitespace on the map you can use for that.

How did you place the units?  I built excels files then imported them into the .mxd, but I am looking at doing a few different things with my unit labels.

Not a bad idea with the frames, I'll have a look at it.

I took Volt's world list and make it one tab in an excel sheet.  In another tab bobthecoward enters the unit name, code and post.  I have the X and Y columns VLOOKUP the world name and read the correct coordinates.

From there I export the forces tab as a DBF IV file and build a shapefile from that, by importing the DBF, then show X,Y, then save as a layer file, then convert to a shapefile.

I built the unit files (see other post :-) ) added them to the .mxd then did a relate based on the planet.  When I'm more awake I'll have to sit down and type out how I did that, I remember it took a bit of work to get all the units on one planet displayed, but nce I did it saved me a ton of typing.

The only other way I've seen is make the units an annotation class, and then you can enter them that way as well.

The way i do it is very useful after the first time, as I can merge a new dbf to the original shapefile, then just read to the new post X,Y columns.

I don't think I ever saw this. This was exactly what I was thinking. Is there still an interest in something like this? I have had this in the back of my mind for the longest time.

I have some excel skill. I'm willing to put any of the deployments into any format either you or Blacknova would need to output more of these. Hopefully, we would be able to automate some of the process.

I also started with 3025 when I did it by hand...

But I was inspired by the book 20 year update. I loved how it included the HQ deployment for all of the ComGuard divisions. Here was the 3050 version with comstar, FedCom, FWLM, and DCMS.

There are a few others that have always intrigued me for this (FM: Updates, the objective raids, etc). I would love to work with somebody if there is interest in these maps.
