3050 Inner Sphere Map
« on: January 24, 2012, 06:41:01 PM »

On the eve of the Clan Invasion, the map of the Inner Sphere changed little from 3040, with only the odd border world changing hands.  This represents the peak of power of the Federated-Commonwealth Alliance, and the end of this fanboy's dreams of Steiner-Davion Imperium.

Any comments or corrections for the map, please post below.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

Here are the shapefiles for use in making a 3050 map.

I was actually tempted to change the faction ownership of the coreward minor periphery worlds to the invading clans' but I wasn't sure if the maps represent "actual" ownership or "perceived" ownership since the rest of the IS didn't know about the clans until Q2 of 3050. If the map represents "actual" ownership then those minor factions should be showing as CJF, CWF, CGB and CSJ. You guys be the judge, and I'd implement it accordingly on my list.

I think it looks cleaner without them for now.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

A small note on the map that it shows either the perceived situation by the IS or the real situation with the IS unknowing the changes in the Periphery would be good.

Personally I would go for the real situation as I don't think any of the other maps show a perceived situation but only the real situation.

Besides that a different color for Rim Collection and Greater Valkyrate would be good.

I think the 3050 map deserves a note saying that in-universe this is the January 3050 edition. As for the real situation, the map actually represents the July 3049 borders, before the start of Operation Revival. My "real" 3050 map would have the coreward pirate states captured by the Invading Clans, since that's the status prior to the start of Wave 1 in March 3050.

What Volt said.

It takes about 1-6 hours, depending on the map and the changes that need to be made, so minor things like perceived and actual fall by the wayside and colors for minor powers are often just done that way, because they were.
