Title: Deep Periphery Cluster and Nebula
Post by: lastjedi on November 03, 2018, 10:23:44 PM
I used the information from the Sarna Unified Cartography Kit, v. 2018.09b to plot the location and size of the clusters and nebulae in ARCMap.

The file format is an ESRI Shapefile.

Enjoy!!!

Did you georeference in the images or use another method?

I was never happy with the results from georeferencing the images.  It was always too far off or warped too much for me.

My method was two fold:

Part 1
1) Imported the SUCKit points into ARCMap.
1) Exported points as a .dxf file from ARCMap.
2) Import the file into Adobe Illustrator and centering Terra on 0,0
3) This created my Planet Template.

Part 2
1) Import the Planet Template into Adobe Illustrator as a layer.
2) Import the image into Adobe Illustrator as a layer
3) Create a vector from the image (another layer)
4) Superimposed the the image vector over my Planet Template from Part 1.
5) Adjusted the width and height of the vector image independently, centering the planets on the points.  This is a pain, but the results seem superior.
6) Then export the "corrected" vector image as a dxf.
7) Import back into ARCMap.

I haven't had much time to mess around with it lately (life right?), so I'm hoping I remember all the steps correctly.  I'm always happy to provide addition information if you want or need it.

It makes sense. I do a lot of georef for work, so I did not find I had too many issues with it as a tool for getting the deep Periphery stuff in, but we each have a way that works for us, and there are a few.

Yep I know what you mean.  I developed that method starting with other BT maps and just kept it for consistency.  I see in the new BT Kickstarter they are planning to include a 3025 and 3052 map.  I really wish they would include the periphery areas and Clan Homeworlds.
