my only concern with releasing too many "clan teasers" for the current (on hiatus) KU campaign is if the players left (if there are any other IS players left ... the OBERON COMBINED CONFERDERATED COMMONWEALTHY LEAGUE EMPIRE of REPULICAL HEGEMONIES for the WIN!) in the Inner Sphere get too much wind of it they may alter their strategies and major plans of conquest.

I haven't played in the KU Universe so I'll leave that to you guys but I think the

21st Clan one might throw people a bit

Sarah McEvedy as an honoured Clanner might bring out interesting thoughts

And Supplication would begin to explain some stuff

The Naval one, Mechs and the ilKhan ones might be better left out...

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

When the game restarts, it will run through to the end of 3028.  There will then be a GM controlled time jump to January 3032, just as the Clans strike.  Players won't have time to react.

How so? As I see it the Mechs is a simple one, the ilKhan meerly shows that other ilKhans were elected, but not the how and why and the naval one will also raise questions in its last paragraph, otherwise being similar to canon in its furst three sections.

I think most are safe, as they look a specific events/threads in isolation from the main story, nit making it clear how they all connect.

(As an outsider looking in - so I could be wide off the mark)

I was thinking the Naval one especially dropped in before things start will raise eye-brows, having the new hulls introduced before the Clans arrive will really have players running to the hills (I would)

The Mech one would be a nice introduction to Clan tech just after/as they invade.

The WarShip one I'd throw in after you've dropped a Leviathan in a fight in the Inner Sphere, feed it as Intelligence maybe (throw the players/Succession Lords a bone)

THE GLORY CAMPAIGN

The battles for the world of Glory are one of the defining campaigns of the Falcon-Wolf feud and serve as an example of the extremes to which both Clans will go when facing each other for extended periods.

Clan Wolf had long held enclaves on Glory, as had other Clans from time to time, however, by the beginning of the 30th Century, Clan Wolf had managed to take exclusive hold of the world.  Following the election of Coyote ilKhan Corian Tchernovkov in 2914, inter-Clan Trials began to increase, as the new enemies of the Coyotes and Wolves sought to weaken their hold on power.
As part of this effort, Clan Jade Falcon landed it Beta Galaxy on Glory in 2915, capturing a small enclave and beginning a twelve year campaign, which would drag in the Falcon’s Alpha Galaxy as well.  The battles during this time were fierce and unforgiving, seeing the deaths of two Falcon Khans and two saKhans, as well as a Wolf Khan and three Wolf saKhans.

However, more insidious events were occurring within the ranks of the Jade Falcons, as the officers of Alpha and Beta Galaxy funnelled ever more supplies, support and warriors into their ranks to allow them to keep fighting.  Whilst gains were being made, much of the Falcon Touman accepted the situation, if grudgingly, however, the death of Wolf saKhan Torren Kerensky in 2927, would see the high water mark of the Falcon advance on world.

By 2927, the Falcons controlled 83% of Glory, however, the constant campaigning was costing them ground in other systems and the Wolves had a new weapon to deploy.  The arrival of the Wolf WarShip CW Molniya, a so called Interceptor Corvette, changed the face of combat on Glory.  Capable of amazing acceleration, the Molniya and her three sisters (Tsyklon, Energia, and Angara), launched one per year from 2927-2930, were able to effectively intercept and destroy many Falcon supply runs to the system.

By 2930, Clan Wolf had retaken nearly a third of the world, but would see its gains slow, as the CJF Peregrine entered service.  The Peregrine was a similar ship to the Molniya and both-classes would clash with each other, and other aerospace units over the final five years of the campaign.
The year 2935 would see the end of the campaign, after another Khan from each Clan was dead, along with an additional Wolf saKhan.  The Wolves, now controlling just under half the world’s enclaves were content with the status quo, whilst the Falcon Alpha and Beta Galaxies, the drivers of the campaign from the Falcon side were decimated, both from lost supplies and Falcon politics seeing them sent less and less in the way of support.

By the end of the campaign, a dozen Khans and saKhans were dead, with the Molniya-class all lost and only one Peregrine-class vessel still operational.  For the Jade Falcons, 2935 would also see the disbandment of Alpha and Beta Galaxies, with the only two remaining functional Clusters, the Turkina Keshik and 1st Falcon Guards, combined into the new Vau Galaxy.  Three other Falcon Guards Clusters, both of the Falcon Grenadiers, the Falcon’s Sword Cluster and the 100th and 200th Falcon Assault Clusters would be removed from the roles in a swath of internal Falcon political pay back for the two Galaxy’s actions.

To this day, both Clans still clash on Glory, however, both are careful not to escalate to the levels that once plagues the world and both Clans for so long.

Thanks to masterarminas for the idea on this one.

THE LOST SHIPS OF GLORY

The Glory Campaign, fought between Clans Jade Falcon and Wolf from 2915 to 2935, was the Catalyst for a new-class of WarShip, built for a form of warfare rarely practiced by the Clans: that of close blockade.

The new-class would be known as Interceptor Corvettes, a light type of WarShip designed to intercept and destroy incoming transports and their escorts at very high acceleration rates.  These slashing attacks and an emphasis on armour, rather than fire power, were unusual in Clan naval circles.

The first of the-classes built was the Wolf Clan’s Molniya, a design based on the Vincent Mk.42 hull, but stripped down, lightened and extensively remodelled.  The-class was able to easily accelerate at 3.5g; however, it could also manage short bursts of a crew crushing 7g, the fastest speed ever achieved by a WarShip in combat.  Heavily reinforced structure was generously covered in advanced armour composites, making the CW Molniya a tough target to destroy.  However, the speed, structure and armour came at a price, as the small ship carried only the-class 10 Naval Autocannon as its heavy armament.  The sister ships of the CW Molinya (2927), were the CW Tsyklon (2928), CW Energia (2929) and CW Angara (2930).

The Jade Falcon answer to this new naval pest, which was at that time being highly successful in curbing the Falcon campaign on Glory, was the CJF Peregrine, a slightly larger vessel.  Although the Peregrine was not as fast as the Molniya, it was better armed, carrying a mix of Light and medium Naval Lasers and Naval PPCs.  The Peregrine launched in 2930, followed by the CJF Kestrel (2932) and CJF Hawk (2934).

Whilst the Molinya and Peregrine-classes were trying to kill each other over Glory, Clan Snow Raven watched with keen interest in this new naval development.  The Snow Ravens believed they saw a real role for vessels such as these in their Touman, as many Clans with strong ground arms could be whittled down if Safcon was not granted, thereby giving the Ravens an edge on a planet’s surface.

The Snow Raven answer, launched in 2932, was the CSR Corone, a much more advanced model of Interceptor Corvette than either the Molinya or Peregrine-classes.  The CSR Corone was slightly heavier again, with better armour and a much better armament suite of heavy naval PPCs and large Naval Lasers.  Five of these ships would be rapidly commissioned with CSR Bagliore (2933) CSR Prominenza (2933) CSR Macchia Solare (2934) CSR Cromosfera (2934) following the CSR Corone into service.

However, by the time the fourth and fifth Raven vessels were under construction, the view of the utility of these vessels had rapidly changed.  The CW Tsyklon was lost to the CJF Peregrine in 2931, followed by the CW Molniya and CW Energia in 2932 and 2933, to what were called Aegis traps set by the Jade Falcon’s heavier ships.  The CW Jerome Winson accounted for both the CJF Peregrine and CJF Kestrel later in 2933, showing the intense vulnerability of these ships to heavier vessels running close escort for supply convoys.

In 2934, the Ravens halted production after the fifth unit and re-tasked the Corone-class as picket ships for the Snow Raven’s Naval Stars.  However, all five vessels would be lost in larger fleet actions, where their speed and armour were not enough to save them.  Both the CSR Bagliore and CSR Prominenza were lost Trialling for the Cheops Shipyards against Clan Burrock in 2976, caught by massed fire and Aerospace attacks.  The CSR Corone (2945), CSR Macchia Solare (2961) and CSR Cromosfera (2982), followed their sister ships into oblivion during the incessant naval clashes with Clan Mongoose over Circe, where all three vessels were destroyed by heavier Mongoose ships.

Today, only the CJF Hawk has survived the fall of the Interceptor Corvette, but only just.  The vessel was badly damaged over New Kent in 2956, battling the Steel Vipers.  Following the battle, the Falcons deemed the vessel not worth the effort it would take to repair, and mothballed it in their Eden naval cache, where it remains to this day.

WOLVERINE REORGANISATION

The historical organisation of the wolverine Touman, that of a Trinary being assigned to a Galaxy and being looked after by an Administrative Cluster, looks to have been abandoned for those Wolverine forces being sent to the Inner Sphere.  Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta Galaxies have been reorganised, with each Galaxy now having operational Cluster assigned to it, each of which has a new designation.

This decision has been taken as the Wolverine Khans anticipate that their Clusters may end up operating independently for long periods of time, therefore requiring greater long term flexibility and overall support.  In order to accomplish this, additional Star Colonels have been selected and some administrative and logistical support from the Homeworld Galaxies.

This reorganisation shows both the Wolverine’s strength in flexibility, but also some of their weaknesses.  With administration and support so long a Galaxy level function, many of the new and a lot of the old Star Colonels will be faced with tasks that once were the sole purview of the Galaxy Commander.  Additionally, the support structures taken to the Inner Sphere, may weaken the Homeworld formations for some time.

Despite these short comings, the Khans believe the new independent Clusters, reporting to the Galaxies for strategic direction, will be a more flexible and useful tool in the Inner Sphere.  The new Clusters were formed by each of the five Star Colonels trialling for the Trinaries that they wished to have command of.  Through this methodology, several types of cluster were established.

The new clusters are all assigned a Trinary of Aerospace support, which is the only standard for these units.  Each is then designated as an Assault, Battle, Striker or Rangers Cluster, based on the weight classification of its BattleMechs.  Those Clusters with a ratio of Mech to Elemental Trinaries of one to one or less are also called light Clusters: such as the 5th Wolverine Light Battle Cluster.  Those Clusters with either one or no Elemental Trinary, are called Heavy Clusters, such as the 1st Wolverine Heavy Striker Cluster.  Due to the two Dragoons Clusters assigned to the old style Galaxies, Battle Clusters and their heavy Trinaries predominate.

The following is the new organisation of these Galaxies:

Alpha Galaxy
1st Wolverine Light Assault
1st Wolverine Heavy Battle
1st Wolverine Heavy Rangers
2nd Wolverine Heavy Battle
3rd Wolverine Battle

Beta Galaxy
4th Wolverine Light Battle
5th Wolverine Light Battle
1st Wolverine Heavy Striker
2nd Wolverine Assault
2nd Wolverine Heavy Striker

Gamma Galaxy
6th Wolverine Battle
2nd Wolverine Light Rangers
7th Wolverine Battle
8th Wolverine Light Battle
9th Wolverine Heavy Battle

Delta Galaxy
10th Wolverine Light Battle
11th Wolverine Heavy Battle
3rd Wolverine Striker
12th Wolverine Battle
13th Wolverine Battle

Editor's note: Since the revelations of Loremaster Tamm, it is now clear that the Wolverine's have adopted this new system wholesale.  However, in order to maintain the rank of Star Colonel on its pedestal, a new rank of Nova Colonel has been in instituted.  Nova Colonels are kept under tight control by Galaxy Commanders and non have been deployed to the Inner Sphere.

Clan Nova Cat Sidebar - The Mystery of the Long Road

In 3020 while travelling between there Kerensky Cluster and the Exeter Cluster the Carrack-class Transport CNC Long Road along with three merchant caste JumpShips went missing along with their crews and cargo.  Although an extensive search was carried out by the Nova Cats and their allies no sign of the WarShip's destruction or wreckage from the three JumpShips has ever been found.

Clan Nova Cat has long suspected Clans Smoke Jaguar or Mongoose as the most likely culprit for the disappearance of the ships.  Both Clans have been troublesome to the Nova Cats throughout Clan history and it is easy to pin blame on these Clans without arousing too much suspicion.  However if you dig deeper into the disappearance darker facts emerge.

Carried aboard the CNC Long Road was Star Colonel Michael Drummond a ristar within the Nova Cats and one with a strong Crusader agenda.  He had risen through the ranks as quickly as he had due to support he gained from Khan Saul Jerral who believed the Nova Cats needed to be at the front of the Crusader campaign to have success and believed that having warriors of that same philosiphy leading the Nova Cats was important on every level.

Michael Drummond's ambitions had faltered when Khan Canin Rosse removed Jerral as leader of the Clan, Canin Rosse ensured Drummond's future was a dangerous one yet one that lacked glory as he tasked the Star Colonel with protecting convoys moving between the Exeter Cluster and the Kerensky Cluster.  Unfortunately the Star Colonel continued to be a thorn Khan's side with many claimed visions from Michael Drummond, none which the Oathmaster had witnessed, these visions told of a great campaign the Clans would go on and the glories of the Nova Cats which won the minds of many young Clansmen.

Adding these facts to the Long Road's disappearance many wonder if the vessel was eliminated by the Leadership of the Clan.  At the same time as the Long Road and her merchant ships disappeared the Nova Cat Flagship CNC Thunderbolt, a Black Lion-class Battle-cruiser under the command of Star Admiral Anders McKenna, was on an extended patrol away from any escort ship officially testing some new equipment.

The vessel returned to Barcella for repairs in 3021 after the new equipment apparently failed spectacularly causing heavy damage to the ship and her escort DropShips including the destruction of an entire Union-class vessel.  Even after the Jame Ryder scandal and the rise of Khan Severn Lervoux Star Admiral Anders McKenna, who is the most senior of all the Nova Cat naval commanders, remains a strong supporter of now-Galaxy Commander Canin Rosse despite his exile to Daniels and Delta Galaxy.

These facts continue to add to the mystery of the CNC Long Road's disappearance.  Further mystery was added in 3029 when a Clan Sea Fox convoy detected a Carrack-class Transport and two JumpShips at a pirate point in the Exeter Cluster, the vessel refused all communications before jumping away.  Knowing the story of the Long Road the Sea Fox merchants passed the information to their Nova Cat counterparts however the Nova Cats have done nothing to further investigate the sighting.

What do you think?  Mysterious enough or a cut and dry case?

Dump the bit about the Smoke Jaguars. Subterfuge is not their style. They'd very likely publicly and knowingly trial for such a vessel if it ran across their path, but I like the Mongooses. Thieving seems right up their alley if given the opportunity.

Consider tightening it up a little if you want mystery. Right now it reads very cut and dry with just enough innuendo within the narrative to suggest that space is the only reason why everything isn't spelled out.

Here's an example...

Clan Nova Cat Sidebar - The Mystery of the Long Road

In 3020, the Carrack-class Transport Long Road along with three merchant caste JumpShips went missing while traveling between the Kerensky and Exeter Clusters. An extensive search was ordered by Khan Rosse and carried out by the Nova Cats, but no sign of the WarShip or her escorts were every found. While some suspected foul play, perhaps an ambush by the Mongooses, there was no evidence to support an accusation or a culprit. Written off as a tragic accident, the Long Road's sudden disappearance may not have been accidental at all.

Before her disappearance the Long Road was commanded by Star Colonel Michael Drummond, a former ristar within the Nova Cats well known for his strong Crusader beliefs. A protege of the Cats' previous Khan, Saul Jerral, Drummond was a major proponent and organizer of a growing Crusader philosophy within the Clan. Reassigned to the inglorious duty of convoy escort after the fall of his mentor, the outspoken Star Colonel continued to push the Crusader agenda.

While an outspoken Star Colonel among the Nova Cats is nothing new, the tempo of Drummond's verbiage and a growing number of followers among the Cats' bloodnamed who bought into the Star Colonel's vision of the Clan may have been of some concern. If it was, the Cat's leadership showed no sign. However, on the Star Colonels' last mission to the Exeter Cluster involved a number of highly suspicious coincidences.

The first was the sudden disappearance of the Clan flagship. Lost at the same time as the Long Road, the Thunderbolt's apparent loss caused no alarm among the Clan's leadership. Officially, the Thunderbolt was on an extended patrol testing new equipment, but the vessel's reappearance over Barcella—shortly after the Long Road was reported missing—showed that the ship had suffered significant damage to its armor belt. Unfortunately, our Watch operatives were unable to ascertain whether or not the damage was caused by weapons fire, or some sort of equipment failure. The single piece of circumstantial evidence recovered from the Thunderbolt was a small piece of armor with laser scoring. Sadly, we were unable to ascertain whether or not the laser scoring was a result of weapons fire, or a cutting tool.

To muddy the waters further, in 3029 a Sea Fox convoy in the Exeter Cluster detected the outbound emissions of a Carrack and several attendant JumpShips. Electronic signatures recorded by the Foxes at the time showed a match with the missing Long Road, but no other evidence of the vessel's existence.

Given the political and philosophical changes that took place within the Nova Cats after Drummond went missing it is conceivable that Khan Rosse or another member of the Clan took it upon themselves to silence the Star Colonel. Even more disturbing is the possibility Drummond's disappearance and presumed death were due to the machinations of a loyal member of his own Crusader camp who may have removed the Star Colonel to force a crisis within the Nova Cats. However, the real question is why? Why would either group go to such lengths to conceal Drummond's disposal? Both the Warden and Crusader factions of the Nova Cats could easily engineer a Trial of Grievance or some other sort of accident that would have been much cleaner and cost far less resources to accomplish. There is also the question of the so-called 3029 appearance of the Long Road. If that ship was indeed the Long Road, what happened to it and where has it been all this time?

This sidebar would tie into some of your general history text so it would enjoy a bit of a backdrop. If you go through the motions of saying Rosse had a hand in his reassignment, that the Khans were worried about Drummond, etc., it points a finger. Keep all the major pieces really vague and toss in one "WTF?!" (Read: Sea Foxes), and you've got a golden mystery.

Changed.

I'd also add in speculation that the Crusaders killed one of their own who was already sidelined and deemed expendable in an effort to create a crisis in the Clan and against the Khan.
