Witch Hunt
« on: February 18, 2017, 10:37:39 PM »

November 3062
Gibson
HPG Facility

The mission was simple: Infiltrate the HPG, switch a bit of hardware, and exfiltrate. The equipment was top of the line. They needed to know what the Word of Blake was planning. Gibson might be the weakest link in their chain. It was the spot to hit, in order to get into their networks. This was vital. It was also McDaniel's first solo mission. Used to a squad or more backing her up, nervous didn't even begin to cover it.

During the insertion the anxiety felt like it would overload her, and eventually her emotions just shut down, like she couldn't process any more. They used one of the old, old Mule Warships for the insertion. Masquerading as a simple cargo DropShip, they approached the planet, pretended mechanical failure of some critical atmospheric systems, and passed by. Meanwhile she slipped out, and dropped out of the black night to the surface amidst the meteor shower that was falling. Theoretically the old workhorse should have been claiming the meteorites were responsible for the damage.

The myomer bundles propelled her far faster than human legs would normally go, practically bounding across the terrain. McDaniels slowed as she approached the target: Gibson's HPG facility. This allowed her camouflage systems to engage, shielding her from most forms of surveillance, when coupled with the stealth systems built into the armor she wore. Getting caught was not an option. As she approached, sentries didn't react, and she settled in to wait near the main gate. As soon as they opened to let a vehicle in, she entered the facility.

Entering the main structure through a service dock that was busy receiving goods, she slipped though unnoticed, thanks the the armor's camo systems. McDaniels made her way through the facility completely unnoticed, and slipped into vital organs of the Hyper Pulse Generator. The timing was critical, and she had only a few more minutes to get it done, before it would have to wait for another interval. She couldn't be switching parts while the system was sending or receiving after all. The suit was specially designed with armored gloves rather than a more powerful battle claw, just for this sort of work. Swiftly she was able to locate her target, and switch out the part. The new addition would allow Black Sky Industries access to everything sent or received.

Now she just had to get back out unnoticed...

Developed some time after the Great Refusal, the Mk IV Shadow was Black Sky Industries latest espionage suit. With multiple advanced stealth systems, and the ability to deploy numerous sensors across a wide area, the suit performs well. It's advanced speed also aids it, allowing it to sprint at over 30 kph for long distances.

Offensively, the suit relies on hand-carried weapons, much like the Star League's old Night Hawks.

As McDaniels was making her way out of the machinery, she was nearly blinded by a burst of laser fire striking the ground directly in front of her. Dodging back the way she came, She tried to get a fix on her assailant, only to come up blank. The only conclusion she could come up with was that someone else had a similar suit to hers. She didn't think anyone else had camo like this in a full battle armor yet. "It couldn't be someone in a simple sneaksuit, that was a support laser I was nearly hit with," McDaniels thought to herself.

McDaniels searched for another way out, since her planned route was obviously a bust. Faintly her suits systems picked up the tread of someone's pace, but she saw nothing. The feeling of being hunted was never pleasant, but she knew that is what was going on. McDaniels began climbing machinery up to another level, with an inkling to try for the roof and climb down the outside.

Suddenly, a loudspeaker sounded, booming a sweet and cheerful voice throughout the building. We know you are here, and in Blake's holy name, you will not leave here unless you surrender immediately. "Fat chance of that," McDaniels thought to herself. Whatever is hunting me must be having some trouble. She heard the tread again, below her, and as quietly as she could she pulled herself up to the level she was approaching. It must not have been quite enough though, because seconds later, fire shot up from below her, consuming the are she had just occupied in flames.

"What the hell is wrong with them, are they going to burn down the whole structure just to get me? It's a damn HPG, not even they could afford that," McDaniels thought to herself. Trying a door near her, she found it was locked. "Probably the whole facility is locked up tight," she thought. Entering an emergency pass-code she had been given, "This will unlock anything in there, but they will catch on and disable it after once or twice," they had told her during the briefing for the mission. Fortunately it worked, as the door opened, she slipped in, and it began closing. Looking back she saw a huge hulking form pull itself onto the walkway she had just left. It was hardly a silhouette, but it was huge. Much larger than her power armor. It was at least as big as an elemental, or bigger. It was hard to make out, and she only got a glimpse.

Knowing she only had seconds, she took up sprinting for another section of the building. Myomer musculature in her suit's structure enhancing her stride far higher than a person can usually go. Behind her she heard a thud on the closed door, followed by the shriek of metal as the huge battle armor behind her simply tore it away. She dodged around a corner just in time to miss machine gun fire. "Either that thing has a huge arsenal or they've deployed a full level one to hunt me" McDaniels though, assessing her situation. The windows would be alarmed, she knew, so she moved out of the corridor she was in, and opened one, moved into the room across from it, opened another, and then back into the corridor, and climbed the wall, and held onto several pipes and conduits that were following the hall on the ceiling, hoping they would hold her and her suit's weight. Holding position, she waited for her pursuit to catch up.

As the myomer musculature of her suit kept her hold on the plumbing she clung to, McDaniel's heard and felt the tread from one of her pursuers move underneath her. It approached the window she had broken and then with a sudden burst of flames, launched into the open air on the outside of the building. McDaniels dropped to the floor quietly, and set one of her suits few remaining remote sensors concealed by the window.

Swiftly she moved back down the corridor and into another part of the structure. Two more times she encountered the unseen heavy tread of her pursuit, before she discovered the place she was looking for. Each time hiding above, where people never seem to look while they are inside a building. When she discovered it, the security center was surprisingly small, barely more than a closet with a computer and chair. Sitting in the chair was a large woman, wearing her Word of Blake uniform, working furiously at the system. As McDaniels watched she accessed numerous systems including power readings for the buildings, and various internal sensors, all while muttering prayers and incantations to 'The Blessed Blake'.

As she was about to send the security officer to meet her blessed blake, McDaniels heard the door open behind her. Rather than executing the poor woman, she reacted instinctively and used her suits enhanced strength to pull her up and throw her at the door. Swearing to herself as she saw she had guessed right, the woman impacted on nothing and both her and the nothing stumbled and fell. That was enough for her, McDaniels charged into the tangle of uniformed and invisible limbs, made a guess, and grabbed something. A Massive laser blast flew over her as an invisible but out of position arm fired a vehicle scale weapon trying to fend her off. It was too late though, as McDaniel's suit enhanced strength ripped the helmet off the suit, and then crushed the head beneath it.

The Security officer was shouting into a micro-communicator as the battle armored warrior died, and McDaniels knew her time had just become very, very limited. Using the same helmet to smash in the officer's face and silence the call for help, McDaniels quickly strode over to the terminal. She nearly cheered as she saw the terminal had access to nearly everything. She quickly connected it to an outside network and began downloading certain files. This sort of thing was always prepared ahead of any mission. Data worms and malware that would allow her, or anyone back home to access the system in the future, and several other nasty surprises. After getting the process started, she destroyed the monitor leaving the process to continue while thinly disguising that she hadn't destroyed the whole unit.

"Well, if they have a whole Level One after me, that was one down, five to go," she said softly to herself as she left that area of the building. Doors were opening for her now, and it seemed the program was dong it's job, electronically ending the lockdown.

McDaniels knew she had little chance of actually taking out a full level one. Sh had gotten lucky with the ones he had taken down. Their armor was much heavier than hers. With the lockdown ended, she thought she would have an easier time getting outside and away.

Heading to an exit, she had to avoid multiple patrols. The lockdown might have ended, but everyone was till on high alert. By the time she reached an outer door, she was elated. The prospect of getting away was exciting. She opened the door and slipped through. The first thing she noticed on the grounds was a fire truck parked only a few meters from the door. Just after she noticed it, machine gun fire filled the air around her.

She ducked and rolled, coming up to sprint away at her suit's top speed. As she took off running a massive jet of water slammed her to the side, right into the wall of the structure she had just left. The impact took her breath away, but she new that to stay still was to die, so she was back on her feet almost m=immediately.

It was too late though, through the withering fire, she had missed the plume of jump jets firing. When a ton of mimetic myomer, armor, and pissed off Word of Blake trooper slammed into her back she went down, and before she could react, the other trooper came down hard on her legs, breaking both of them. The sudden pain and surprise was disorienting, and as she fell to the ground once more she couldn't do anything as the armored gauntlet of the nemy hammered into her over and over until she lost consciousness.
