Here is your tease for Field Manual: LCAF. Despite a late surge for the Aggressor Corp, the Light Horse still won by a fair margin.
Australian Light Horse
Overview
Through the success of the various mercenary regiments hailing from the world and the feeling that the LCAF could use some of the Australian disdain for “stuffy traditionalism that loses wars,†the LCAF formed, much to the horror of social generals everywhere, a brigade of BattleMech regiments from Australia. With the new industrial might that was now a part of the Australian economy, the equipment for establishing the new regiments was easily too hand. The first two regiments were formed in 3030 and followed by two more in 3032 with much fanfare on their homeworld, with all four regiments being oversubscribed by a factor of five. This led to fierce competition for entry into the brigade, even for Astech positions.
The Australians have brought, among other things, a few sartorial changes to the LCAF uniform, especially their beloved slouch hat, which has led to a few unpleasant bar clearing brawls with other LCAF units when they see the distinctive headgear.
Condition
The 1st Light Horse regiment formed in secret in 3030, as a surprise to the rest of the LCAF. The 1st Light Horse was equipped by local factories (utilizing many Wolfhounds, Falconers, and Stalkers). The rest of the unit is equipped with a variety of Light and Medium designs, mostly from Coventry Metal Works. The 1st is, as expected, a rough lot, but one that while green, is expected to do well. There isn’t a CMTC rotation scheduled for the 1st, but the unit has trained and trained hard, mostly to keep them out of trouble with the 25th Arcturan Guards. Great pride is also taken in the Regimental Band, which often travels around Australia, giving concerts to appreciative audiences.
The 2nd Australian Light Horse is much like the first, though they are attempting to carve their own identity as well, and there are many friendly intermural competitions between both units, the militia, and the 25th Arcturan Guards. The 2nd are definitely the most impetuous regiment of the Brigade, and it shows in the battlefield recklessness of the regiment. It is hoped by the LCAF high command that a CMTC rotation in the near future will calm the 2nd down.
The 3rd Australian Light Horse was part of the “second wave†of unit formation and tends to get a rough time from members of the 1st and 2nd. The 3rd is a lot calmer and more studious as a regiment than the other Light Horse formations, preferring to take their time and pick a potential enemy apart, then use their assault battalion to finish the enemy off. While the 3rd has not, as yet, had a CMTC rotation, there is much expected out of the 3rd when they do, and their regimental doctrine is one that is being studied by the LCAF for wider application.
The 4th Australian Light Horse is the newest regiment of the brigade and have not established an identity yet. The 4th is living in the shadow of the other regiments and are looking to the example of LCAF mercenary tactics more so than the rest of the brigade for a way to make their mark.
