Megamek
« on: May 16, 2011, 12:37:41 PM »

Are there any Megamek players in here?

Does anyone like to roleplay and use Megamek to simulate the battles?

Years and years ago we used MM to help play a Star League-era RPG. It worked fairly well at the time. These days I don't have time to play it. *Sad Face*

Until about two months ago, when I could start attending Slade's games, MegaMek was the only way I've played BT for close to the last decade. I've run full MW3 RPG campaigns with MM battles, planetary invasions, my own version of the Jihad, the works. Haven't actively played in a while, but I will be again once the AU setup is finished.

I played and still play MegaMek for campaigns or one shot fights.

A couple of times, but I have never been much of a table topper in BattleTech, more of a universe guy.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Overall, it is fun. I haven't had much luck with a lot of the Aerospace units and the AI, but the 'Mech/Vehicle battles are pretty decent if you can keep the number of units manageable.

Hmm...you probably wouldn't like the 30 to 40K games I regularly do via MM then. :)

Damn...

How long do those games run?

Ideally? About six to eight hours total. If it's too big (like the upcoming 40K BV fight Maelwys and I have planned), we'll break it out over two or three sessions. It's so easy to save and pick up again later. Then again, after years of playing on MegaMek campaign servers, I'm fully accustomed to having a three to five hour match. I don't sit down to play, unless I have the time to commit. Really not much different from spending three hours on WoW or Modern Warfare 162 or whatever.

Then again, I also firmly believe in not ever having a family, ignoring most of the world at large, and am currently jobless. That kind of provides more free time. ;)

Certainly. I think our 40,000 BV match will be sometime later this week. I'll talk to my compatriot tomorrow and get back to you.

Let me know. I may not be able to connect this weekend (I'll be away), but certainly another time if not this round.

Well great, it sounds like a few of you guys still like to play... does anyone who wants to play some megamek or start some small campaign using megamek want to post your IM contact info and maybe we can all find some time to play. I myself don't mind playing a few turns here and a few turns there if the game is fairly large, and for small games lance or less it goes fairly fast....
