Shogun II: Total War
« on: March 12, 2011, 08:48:26 AM »

I played the demo about a week ago and the game looks extremely solid.  I've all of the Total War games, so it felt natural to add this one to the collection.  It seems to be very polished with some new features including key buildings in which your army gains benefits  by controlling.  It still has some firearms in it, but I'm glad that it will be more about infantry, cavalry, and archers.  Nothing more exciting than the clash of two battle lines as your flanking cavalry hit their archers or crash in from behind.  I look forward to rising from Daimyo to Shogun from conquest and glory!

How different from the first Shogun (which I still have and continues to work!) Game?

I might give it a try but I preferred the Crusades and Empires for some reason.

The first Shogun was the fulfilling of my dreams back then. Nothing could compare to it.

The atmosphere is still unmatched.

I just hope my quadcore 3.4 Phenom 2 will be able to handle it. :P

I am gonna buy it.  :) Good to know the demo is well done.

I pre-loaded the game on Steam last night hoping it would be downloaded by the time I woke up.  As luck would have it did.  Unfortunately, the game didn't "release" until 9 EST.  What the hell is that?  The game should have been live 3/15/11 on the dot, not like 9 hours later.  Needless to say, I was a little annoyed when I woke up an extra 30 minutes early to check it out.

The game is really good.  I'm starting as the Chokosabe (sp?) they are the in Shikoku island, which is relatively isolated and easy to defend as a starting point.  They are master bowmen, which I'm a big fan of.  I've nearly secured the island.  Deciding if I should backstab my ally on the island or let him continue existing.  Anyway, I'm just doing a short campaign to get a feel for it, then I'll take on a harder clan.

One very cool thing is that instead of the random bonuses generals get if older TW games, you actually gain experience and get to pick the bonuses you want, giving it a little more RPG feel to developing your guys.  That way you can pick to buff their individual fighting skills, their overall combat leadership, or their non-combat leadership skills.

I was poking around their site a few days ago. The game really does look amazing. I think I might have to pick it up - need to check to see if there's a Mac version. I forgot to look.  ???

Good to know, klink.

You should be Chosokabe? Or something. I guess the factions have increased much, compared to the 1st one?

Any probs with stability? What is your systems force to handle it? (I dislike steam so I am gonna get the hardcopy)

Yeah, I'm rocking the Chosokabe or whatever right now.  There's a lot of factions.  And oddly, there's been like 2 or 3 clans fall, and then like 1 new clan arise, which was kind of cool.  Someone must have had a rebel army take a region.  System's handling it just find.  Seems to be relatively bug free, unlike Empires when that came out.  No crashes, graphics are good enough for my standards, and the combat is just as fun as I remember it being.

What kind of system are you running the game on?
