Rainbow 6

TRO3050U - All of LAW's factories opened during the Jihad seem to be old factories re-built during the jihad, or at least the entries don't say they are new builds.

Do we need to include these?

The wolf trap entry implies that the Abiy Adi factory is new - it talks about "helped fund the completion of a full scale battlemech factory of the world of Abiy Adi" (p. 52)

TR3050U also suddenly created several factories which did not exist in 3025 - the Grand Dragon mentions factories on Dieron, Saffell & Yorii.  I'm not sure how to handle these- truthfully I am tired of new factories being created out of thin air and I am inclined to ignore them.  The Grand Dragon also mentions that the Abiy Adi factory was "modified" during the Jihad (maybe it built industrial mechs or consumer goods?), the Savinsville factory was rebuild  and the Nykvarn factory was entirely new.

From the Charger entry we have a LAW factory on Shimonita but it had to be upgraded in the 3070s to be able to build mechs.  As for LAW/New Samarkand it is not clear when the factory was established- but we know it did not exist in 3025.

Rainbow 6

I'd assumed that the LAW/New Samarkand factory is the same on that was building the Komodo in the original TRO3055.

If we were to include these factories it would give the Combine the mech building industry it should have at the start of the succession war.

Just for the record i'm not impressed with all the new (old) factories that have sprung up recently either.

The text of the Komodo says they Komodo is being built on Luthien and that the Combine is planning on building a new factory deeper in the DC. In TR3055 Upgrade it shows the mech being built at Luthien and the text says the Komodo was designed at a small LAW R&D facility on New Samarkand.

We will need to add factories to the DC (and other IS states) as many were destroyed during the SWs.  Some we know about -such as Amalgamated Sword & Steel, Diplan Mechyards and Brigadier. Others can be guessed at based on the books- Earthwerks definitely had a mech factory in the DC, Bergan Industries may have and Ceres Metals may have had some factories in the DC.  We don't need to add 2 dozen factories for LAW.

No but those factories could be on the planets and Brigadier, earthworks etc could have there destroyed sites turned over to LAW later in the SW, couldn't they?

It could but in BT even if a company was destroyed 2 centuries ago- they some how manage to survive in some form to rebuild their factories in the 3060s.

CJvR

Well most industrial information is limited to the military facilities. Many companies could probably survive even if their military division was blasted to bits - and once tech needed to rebuild became available the survivors might try to branch back into the arms business.

Updates from M&M

Hachiman-Taro Electronics  (p. 24)
HQ Hachiman
Major Facilities: Towne, Dieron, Luthian, Miyada
Major supplier of commerical and military electronics in DC.

Independence Weaponry (p.25)
HQ New Samarkand
Major Facilities: Luthien, Donegal, Markab, Victoria,Stewart. (What about Quentin?)
Neutral Weapons supplier, services and supplies most major military manufacturers in the IS. Based in the DC (before or after war of 3039?)  divisions in different states operate independently.  Has done so for centuries.

New Samarkand Metals (p. 25)
HQ: New Samarkand
key facilities New Samarkand, togura, niles, Quandahar
Major mining operations in Oshika, New Samarkand and tabayama provinces. Handles most of the DC's Germanium mines.

New Samarkand once had “Vast Shipyards in orbit' may have been relocated when the capital moved to Luthien. p. 27

Buda Weapons Complex D was only founded circa 3020 p. 27

Cairo Enterprises (Division of Buda Imperial Vehicles by 3077) operates manufacturing facilities on Algedi. Production is mainly for Azami worlds Products Civilian? Military? P. 28

Odin Manufacturing
HQ – Orestes
Key Facilities – Orestes, Alshain, Tinaca
“cornerstone of Rasalhagian industry since it's founding in 2310” -Curious- since Orestes was a LC world in 2785.  Maybe HQ later relocated to Orestes?
Basically stayed on 7 worlds- original 4 complexes in Rasalhague Space, Crimond in the LC and 2 facilities in the DC that were opened in the 2800s.  Company is known for Puma Tanks and Ostscout mechs (but is this a post 3050 development?)
Company was fairly sheltered during the SW and did not seem to suffer much damage.  In 3070s military manufacturing accounts for 10% of the company's portfolio.  Majority of profits come from Construction and materials manufacturing. Orestes is home to the military manufacturing, Alshain has component manufacturing and forging facilities, Tinaca produces residential prefab modules.  p. 108

Alshain Weapons – acquired by GKT about a century after the absorbtion of the Principality of Rasalhague by the DC. (so Rasalhague absorbed 2510 – so by 2610?) p. 109 (contradicts other sources)

Alshain weapons sold to Bergen Industries of Ares after Ronin War p. 109
(P. 142 refers to the factories on New Oslo as belonging to GKT not Bergen Industries)

Alshain Weapons also known as Alshain BattleWorx.  Has facilities on Alshain, Thule, Rasalhague & New Oslo in 3070s.  Company built frames for many battlemech companies including LAW & Irian.  p.108

Joint Equipment Systems
HQ – Alshain
Key Facilities – Alshain, Cartago & Panpour (both FS)
Founded on Alshain in 26th Century.  Mainly a vehicle manufacturer.  Panpour- engine facility. Cartago -also an engine facility. p. 108

Gorton Kingsley & Thorpe- originally law firm on Rasalhague, began buying up other companies, including Alshain Weapons. Claims Battlemech factories on Satalice, Alshain & New Oslo (Satalice was the home of relocated facilities that were moved from New Oslo during the clan invasion. ) Also owns Skoda Engineering – manufacturer of off road vehicles, Textile Mills, exporting companies and had a large stake in Raimai Aerospace p. 109

Alshain Mechworks (on Alshain) located under the Oresund sea (original DC book put in the mountains) p. 110

Orestes planetary description implies that the industry on the planet is a post Tukayyid development -leads to questions about Odin Manufacturing.  p. 111

Kirchbach – Swedenborg Heavy Industries weapons plant only dates to the 3030s.  P. 142

Itabaiana – major supplier of industrial grade Rhenium.  Many factories & smelting plants.  p. 154
