Battle site
Autumn Wind, Independent
Former-Free Worlds League
6th October 3094

Another particle projection cannon blast slammed into the left hand side of Ranna Kerensky's Timber Wolf ruining the Long Range Missile rack there fortunately it was little loss as the launcher had been empty for hours.  The Wolf Spider Keshik's plan to ambush the Ghosts of the Abyss Mercenary Command had backfired on them almost completely.  Two days ago the Wolves had begun their landings on the planet only to be hit from several locations on the ground.  Their DropShip had been struck by enemy fire and forced to make an emergency landing Katya had lost half her technical team and two MechWarriors before her Mechs had even deployed on the surface.

Her forces had then been hit continuously for two days harried from place to place unable to stop to repair or rearm.  Death would almost be a welcome release from this battle.  Now the Ghosts of the Abyss had landed and joined whoever was attacking them pushing her Wolves to the point of destruction.  She had ordered a point of her Elementals to head to Autumn Wind's capital and overrun the HPG then to send her unit's position to the Exiles in the Lyran Commonwealth she hoped they would be successful striking out with one of her Mech's large lasers knocking back one of her opponents.  She glanced down at her sensor display only three other Wolves remained standing and they were surrounded on three sides their Mechs had their backs against a cliff Ranna knew there was no escape they would die as Wolves in combat.

As more weapons hit her Timber Wolf Ranna fought for control triggering her Mech's pulse laser and machine guns as she did spraying the ground with weapons fire as her seventy-five ton OmniMech stumbled around as if it were drunk.  She hit the communications system “Ghosts of the Abyss, your days are mark...” she began screaming into the microphone as a particle cannon struck her Mech's cockpit incinerating the saKhan.  Within moments of their saKhan's death the remaining two Wolf MechWarriors also fell under the massive amount of weapons fire.  In the planet's capital city the Exile Elemental point broke into the planetary HPG station commandeering the station to send a message via the civilian HPG network.  The Star League Department of Communications operators of the station offered the Exiles sanctuary and transport back to Wolf (in-Exile) territory but the warriors had already decided their fate exiting the station as soon as it was confirmed their message had been send.  Within minutes of being in the open facing their enemies the last members of the Wolf Spider Keshik were killed in a hail of weapons fire ending their hunt for the Ghosts of the Abyss in failure as the rogue mercenaries disappeared into the Free Worlds League.

Vacation spot
Averrant City, Crossing
Draconis March, Federated Suns
13th October 3094

While taking a break from the hustle and bustle of Robinson Duke Tarncred Sandoval and his family are targets for an assassination attempt by elements of the First Ghost Regiment of the DCMS on the holiday world of Crossing.  Only a timely intervention by the Duke's personal regiment, the First Robinson Rangers RCT which had been in training on one of the planet's moons, saves the the Draconis March's leader and his heir the fifteen year old Elaine Sandoval.  The First Ghost Regiment are forced back by the Robinson Rangers and forced to abandon the system or face destruction.

President’s House
Gillfillan’s Gold, Rim Collection
Periphery
14th October 3094

Jerry Able headed into the compound that was the Rim Collection’s President’s House, visibly tired from having to take part in the campaign. While he publicly demanded an election, the public he knew was behind him. Very much so, for the last polls showed he held a forty percent lead over the closest other presidential candidate, Congresswoman Megan Hunt of Hiberius.

Unlike his daughter, Karen, he approved full-heatedly of the election. He just wished it wouldn’t take so much energy out of his aging body. Still, he was proud of his nation, his people. Tomorrow was the election, and already the larger voting centers were reporting lines as people began showing up so that their vote may be heard.

Only two things worried him at the moment. The Gold Herold, the newspaper company owned partially by his family, had begun printing articles that at least heavily implied his family should inherit the Rim Collection. He well knew it was Karen’s influence and the Able name that had the Gold Herold in the palm of Karen’s hands. With the Gold Herold being the second largest newspaper on Gillfillan’s Gold, and beginning to branch out to other worlds within the Rim Collection, Jerry knew he would have to keep a close eye on the newspaper.

The second thing that worried him, though, was the Stone Spirit attack on Caldarium and their near destruction of the BattleMech factory complex producing the Rim Collection’s sole assault BattleMech at the moment. Karen was on that world, now, overseeing the deployment of a large number of the Collection’s reserve assets. She had reported that morning the factory complex had only just finished being cleaned from radiation and would begin to be rebuilt sometime next week.

That had given his eldest grandson, Charlie, who ran Able’s Arms, Limited, a desire to get into the BattleMech production business, specifically to replace Rim Motors as the primary supplier of assault BattleMechs. That was mute until the young man actually supplied a design for just that. Still, he already had to publicly stand impartial between the upcoming fight between Rim Motors and Able’s Arms, less he be seen as not wanting to support the vastly popular Rim Motors. His latest speech had seen to that.

In the same speech, he also outright told everyone his plan to attend the upcoming Star League conference, where he would push for trade with the Star League Protectorate and the other Inner Sphere states and seek aid against the Stone Spirits. That had been met with applause and, he knew, had caught Megan Hunt and the other three presidential candidates off guard. While he knew it likely sealed his victory in tomorrow’s election, it also was a firm reminder that they needed allies, even with the Fire Mandrills at their side.

He was pulled out of his thoughts and stopped, leaning against his damned cane, as he heard his name. Turning around, he saw the Fire Mandrill Khan, Aemelia Showers, storm her way towards him, followed closely behind by Fire Mandrill Adjunct Lysa Djerassi in her wheelchair. By the look on both clanner's faces, he knew whatever they wanted was certainly not a social call.

â€œCongratulations on you finally becoming Bloodnamed and your elevation to Khan of the Mandrills, Khan Showers,” he congratulated the clan woman with graying hair. His congratulation was answered with a short, clipped nod from the khan, as befitting the one even her clan called the Cat, in respect for her past as a former Smoke Jaguar warrior. “I gather this is not a social call, quineg?” He asked the woman, using the clan term to show his respect of her.

â€œNeg, President Able. This certainly is not!” the clanner woman all but snarled at him. While both respected each other for their individual abilities, it reminded him he did not have as close a relationship with this woman then he did with the previous two leaders. And that showed, for only days after her elevation to what should have been Kindraa Leader of Kindraa Faraday-Tanaga, the old woman instead declared the reformation of Clan Fire Mandrill under her command. While worrying, he knew it was only a pride issue with the weak clan and not anything more disturbing then that, for the clan would keep to their word to help protect the Collection.

Sighing to himself, he decided to lead the two clan women to his private office, as he did not want to deal with them in a public environment. “This way then, ladies. And you will have to excuse my slowness. Still need this damn cane to get around with, after all,” jostling the wooden cane he hated very much towards his office as he spoke to them. He still clung to his pride as a MechWarrior, after all.

Once in his office, Khan Aemelia Showers wasted no time to inform him of why she demanded to speak to him, as he quietly sat down in the comfortable sofa in the room. “Earlier today, Master Merchant Heather of the Steelsoul Khanate, based here on Gilfillan’s Gold, informed us of Evangeline Clarke being unable to convince her clan to allow my Mandrills to maintain our control over Armory Epsilon.”

â€œArmory Epsilon,” he asked questioningly. While his status as President of the Mandrills meant he knew much more than the regular civilian would about the Collection’s resident clan, Aemelia’s recent reforms within the clan meant even he did not know everything about the Mandrills.

The wheelchair-bound Lysa Djerassi answered his question in place of her khan. “Armory Epsilon produces our Masada infantry fighting vehicles and the new Koshi BattleMechs we have begun to trade with the Collection’s permission with the Free World Remnants and the Star League Protectorate, President Able.”

That answered everything now, for he had heard the other Sea Fox Khanates were not happy at the Steelsoul Khanate for allowing the Mandrills to produce the light BattleMech. “Is All Dawn at danger of being attacked by the Foxes, Khan?”

Both clan women looked at each other, seemingly in an unspoken conversation, before the new Fire Mandrill khan responded to his question. “Unlikely, for the moment. Knowing the Foxes, they will merely declare a Trial of Possession against my clan for Armory Epsilon itself rather than attack All Dawn full out. Still, if and when they do come calling, my clan is too spread out and weakened to properly protect the factory complex, as it is just not worth risking our enclave on All Dawn.”

â€œWhat can the Collection do to help with this situation Khan?” he asked the Fire Mandrill khan. “It is not as if we are in a position to come to your aid without weakening the Collection’s borders ourselves.”

â€œI know that!” yelled out Aemelia as she slammed her fist on his desk that she was leaning on. The motion caused three of Able’s protective detail to check on them. Only after Able waved them off did they leave, closing the door to the room. “Forgive me, President. It is just irritating to be this weak!”

â€œYes it is,” he acknowledged to the clan woman, calming her down. It reminded him of just why she was called the Cat by her people. After allowing the clanner to collect herself, he continued the conversation. “What are our options if and when the Foxes decide to show up, as you delicately put it earlier, Khan?”

â€œFight, President Able. What more can we do?” she answered. By the worn voice of the clanner woman, Jerry knew the woman was tired of having a fight at every turn and yet, he noted her voice still held great conviction in it. It was what interested him the most about the Mandrills and the clans. They just didn’t quit, even when they should, for they were a prideful lot.

Which brought him back to the situation at present. Allow the far more powerful Foxes to take Armory Epsilon would badly hurt the Mandrills and potentially lead them closer to the Collection or cause them to separate from his nascent nation. Yet stand with the Mandrills and risking the Collection to an attack by the Foxes would cement the alliance with Mandrills far further. It was a gambit that could potentially make or break the Collection at a time where the Collection was only just branching out. A very big risk, to say the least.

And yet, with the Mandrill Khan here, he knew it meant the Mandrills were desperate. And that gave him options. Perhaps now was the time to both cement the alliance with the Mandrills and further the Collection’s need to rebuild and recolonize the planets nearby? He decided it was.

â€œYou ask for aid from the Collection and yet, you do not give what the Collection needs,” he admonished to the two clanner women. Waving them down before they could get riled up, he continued. “The Collection has asked your clan time after time after time for assistance with using your large JumpShip fleet, which I hear is nearly all still wasting away over All Dawn and Timbuktu by the way, for help to build our nation’s economy.”  Jerry knew the reason for the Mandrills to be clustered around these worlds; should they need to they could use them to evacuate the Collection. “Where is the promised medical aid? And just as many times, your Mandrills have denied our requests. And yet, here you two are. Whatever should I do, ladies?” He hoped to shame them to finally get them to agree with those two demands.

â€œCareful, Able!” Khan Aemelia Showers growled at him. “My warriors are dying for your Collection we came to your aid without hesitation on Caldarium and brought Timbuktu under your control!”  She snapped back “my technicians are helping to rebuild your out of date production lines to match the Lyrans! My clan-“ he cut her off then.

â€œYour clan calls for aid, Khan, yes you have helped us but you could do so much more.”  Jerry Able said “I will offer you a solution we will help you counter the threat from the Foxes but we NEED those JumpShips.  And we NEED you to share your medical technology with us.”  With those JumpShips they could improve this nation one hundred times over night; and the medical technology could save thousands.  “I only remind you of that because, at the end of the day, my Collection and your Clan Fire Mandrill need each other, Khan. The Collection and the Mandrills MUST stand together! Or we will end up being destroyed by the threats at our border. I will order the last of our reserves to Caldarium, allowing your clan to rest and refit and be able to defend All Dawn against its enemies, whether they are the Spirits, the dezgra Lyrans, or the honorable Foxes! Think of that when we ask for aid from your clan, Khan. My Collection, as you put it, answered your call for aid. Will the Fire Mandrills answer ours, quiaff?”

That solves two problems, Jerry thought to himself, it allowed the Rim Guards likely to finally get much needed combat experience and possibly get Congresswoman Megan Hunt off his back.  She'd wanted her own troops to fight for the Collection for months it might cost him votes but it was worth it.  This would allow the battered Clan Fire Mandrill Touman to recollect itself on All Dawn rest, refit and rebuild.  He could see his impromptu speech had shaken the Fire Mandrill Khan, while out of the corner of his eyes, Lysa Djerassi seemed to be holding her breath. He knew he was taking a risk angering the Mandrill khan; but he deemed it a worthy risk.

Moments passed by, as the Clan warrior in front of him seemed to debate with herself on how to handle Able. Finally she gave her answer with only one word “Aff,” all the while grimacing to herself the Mandrill Khan did not like the idea of her forces retreating; and she wanted revenge against the Stone Spirits for their attacks.

Able nodded to himself before slowly picking himself up and making his way to his desk. Clicking on the comm he spoke into it “Connie, this is Able. Get me priority HPG contact with Hiberius. I need contact five minutes ago.” All the while, he stared down the Cat, the Crusader Mandrill who now led a clan of largely neutrals who cared not one bit for the traditional Crusader/Warden philosophical split found in the other clans what they did care about was each other and their survival; two things he had just offered the Khan.

As they waited for HPG contact with Hiberius, homeworld of the Rim Guards, he watched as Aemelia clenched her fists before nodding to him and he responded in kind.

Scouting Mission, LCJS Void Philosopher (Invader-class JumpShip)
Sweet Water, Inarcs Theatre
Coventry Province, Lyran Commonwealth
24th October 3094

Tagged as a civilian trade vessel the Void Philosopher, an Invader-class JumpShip, was a Lyran Intelligence Corps vessel tasked with scouting Lyran Commonwealth systems in the Inarcs theatre checking for enemies of the Lyran state should they be Jade Falcons, Stone Spirits, Fire Mandrills or pirates.  To support these efforts one of the Invader's three DropShips was the LCDS Weasel, a Leopard-class “Pocket WarShip” disguised as a standard vessel, which was used to scout systems and take care of threats.

Most systems were clear of threats.  As part of their mission the Void Philosopher scouted the abandoned systems of the Commonwealth one such system was the Sweet Water system which had once been home to a LIC Observation station.  The system had been abandoned at the beginning of the First Succession War when a Rim Worlds Republic Mako team had released a chemical agent onto the planet to eliminate the LIC team and its intelligence.

Arriving in the system the Void Philosopher's sensors immediately lit up “sir, we have a contact in system!”  Lt Janice Grazer called out

   â€œReport” Captain Herman Friebner ordered

â€œSingle contact half way between here and the planet.  Over seven hundred metres in length.”  She reported after a few moments “it's an Aegis!”

â€œWhat an earth is an Aegis doing in this system?  Recharge the drives as quickly as we can without damaging them!”  Friebner ordered

â€œSir, it looks like its dead” Grazer reported still looking over the sensor readings “I see minimal power from any of her systems she's drifting at 0.001G barely moving.”

â€œWhen was the last time one of our ships visited this system?”  He asked off to his left the ship's communications officer was already looking through the records.

â€œ3042” Dennis Epps finally said “the starship Smokehouse Six...”

â€œI wonder what they were smoking to miss a dead Aegis” Grazer said interrupting.

â€œ...they spent almost two weeks in the system after a seal burst.  During that time one of their DropShips landed on Sweet Water and confirmed that the world was habitable but that there was little left worth taking.”  He said completing their report “sir, at the speed that Aegis is traveling there is no way they could have missed it.”

â€œMaybe because it wasn't here.”  Friebner suggested “get the Weasel on the line, see if they want to go scouting?”  He said “inform our merchant passengers there is a ship in the system that may need assistance and that the Weasel is going to move to assist.”  He said the Void Philosopher was carrying a Union and a Buccaneer from system to system as cargo for this trip.

â€œStone Spirits?”  Grazer suggested “they only appeared on our borders recently, they've got an Aegis.”

â€œWhich was last seen at Main Street.”  Friebner said “this is something new.”

â€œThe only others in the are a that have an Aegis are the Jade Falcons and they haven't come this far.”  Epps added

â€œThat's why we need to see who this ship belonged to and where her crew went.”  Friebner said.  The Weasel's commander was not happy with the idea of approaching an Aegis-class Heavy Cruiser, even if it was dead, but after looking over the records himself he agreed to take the Weasel on a long range pass over the vessel.

Four days of waiting followed as the Weasel made its cautious approach.  Aegis-class Heavy Cruisers were not the fastest of naval vessels but then they didn't have to be put in the right position the vessel could shatter the Weasel before it got within effective weapons range.  As the Weasel approached the seven hundred-and-fifty thousand ton vessel it was clear to everyone on board the DropShip that the WarShip was no threat to anyone.  The vessel's hull was holed in several locations, some that looked like they had been caused by internal explosions, and there was no biological life at all.  One thing the Weasel was able to establish was the vessel's name Blue Talon which was a Clan Jade Falcon vessel that had been listed as missing/presumed lost since a miss-jump in 3087.  With no sign of life or a threat from the vessel the Weasel continued in system for another two days arriving at the planet that had once been inhabited by the Lyran Commonwealth.

Sweet Water had received its name due to the natural springs of water that appeared across the planet providing plentiful drinking water.  Unfortunately these springs and the underground rivers that fed them were unpredictable making the ground unstable.  Also as large quantities of water was often thrown into the sky it made strong and lengthy storms common.  Following the Rim Worlds Republic attack on the planet the decision was made to abandon the colony.  As the Weasel moved into orbit over the planet the ship received a message from the ground “Unidentified vessel this is Star Commodore Tarlek Helmer this planet is inhabited by the passengers and crew of the Blue Talon.  We have five hundred-and-forty-two souls” he said “we do not know your intention but we will resist you with all our abilities.”  The Weasel's sensors could tell that the Jade Falcons had little in the way of provisions or supplies or shelter.  During subsequent discussions it is discovered that the Blue Talon had jumped with its DropShips deployed in combat against the rogue scientist Etienne Balzec.  Due to this the crew had been left with small craft as a means to travel to the planet considering the distance between the planet and the Blue Talon the journeys to and from had used the small crafts fuel stranding them on the surface.

The Jade Falcons had shown an uncommon ingenuity moving their small craft to the mouths of several caves which they had taken shelter in.  With the shuttles blocking out most of the winds and rain the Falcons had survived for seven years which was an impressive feat on its own.  With no intention of attacking the downed Clansmen instead Captain Friebner offers them assistance in exchange to the Falcons giving up access to the Blue Talon and their long range communications systems.  Although this effectively strands the Falcons on this world but it also guarantees their survival it also brings a lost Lyran world back onto the interstellar maps.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

The Hyades is actually a little ahead of itself the design doesn't start production until December  :-[

Nevermind bonuses are good

Into November

Federated Suns National Survey
New Syrtis, New Syrtis PDZ
Capellan March, Federated Suns
3rd November 3094

Although ever effort has been made to improve New Syrtis standing and repair the damage done to the planet in 3091 the world is largely depopulated with the Federated Suns National Survey putting planetary population under one hundred thousand.  The only people who live on New Syrtis are those who work within the factories and military facilities that remain operational.

Although the Hasek family continue to call the world home, and continue to try to bring in investors and people to the planet, the Federated Suns leadership continues to consider Kathil, which is deeper inside the realm, as the capital of the March.  The Hasek family remain as the noble leaders of the Capellan March with Field Marshal Nathaniel Hasek spending more time on Kathil than his family's homeworld Duchess Deborah Hasek meanwhile spends more time on New Syrtis intent on restoring the world's pride which it held during her husband's reign.

LCAF Deployment
Australia, Coventry Province
Lyran Commonwealth
16th November 3094

As part of the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces build-up in the system near the Rim Collection and Stone Spirit space the Thirty-second Lyran Guards RCT to the world of Australia backing up the First Pathfinders Battalion, The Drop Bears, mercenary command which had been  hired by the Lyran Banks.  Unlike The Drop Bears who are on the planet as a defensive force the Thirty-second are tasked with hunting down and eliminating any bandit or hostile groups in the region.

To assist them in this mission the unit is also testing a new type of Gray Death Battle Armour known as the Infiltrator.  Unlike the Federated Suns Infiltrator Mk I the Gray Death Infiltrator is far more mobile and capable of dealing far more damage than its predecessor.  The deployment of several squads of the Gray Death Infiltrator is mirrored with the deployment of several squads with the Gray Death Legion along the Jade Falcon border.  Gray Death Industries, based on the Legion's homeworld of Glengarry, hope that successful deployments with the Thirty-second and the Gray Death Legion will lead to a larger order from the LCAF and interested mercenary units.

Royal Birth, Halas Palace
Oriente, Oriente Protectorate
Former-Free Worlds League
21st November 3094

In the halls of the Halas Palace Jonas Halas, Captain-General of the Oriente Protectorate, becomes a father for the first time with the birth of his daughter Sophie Halas.  As the Oriente Protectorate was sandwiched between the hostile nations of the Principality of Regulus, Capellan Confederation and the Magistracy of Canopus Jonas makes the choice to hire Le Grande Cloche, The Grand Bell, Mercenary Battalion commanded by Colonel Cosette Beauchene.

The mercenary force are an all-female bodyguard unit with a battalion of infantry, a Mech lance and an aerospace squadron.  Originally from the far flung Magistracy of Canopus world of Wavre Jonas assigns Le Grande Cloche directly to the defence of the Halas Palace over the Ducal Guard much to the anger of the Oriente Armed Forces.

Counter-strike
Marduk, Irurzun Prefecture
Military District of Dieron, Draconis Combine
24th November 3094

Leading a counter-strike against the Draconis Combine for the attack against Crossing Duke Tarncred Sandoval leads the First Robinson Rangers RCT across the Draconis March/Draconis Combine border onto the Combine world of Marduk.  There he encounters and destroys the First Ghost Regiment, the perpetrators for the attack on Crossing, breaking the DCMS unit with heavy pressing attacks the resistance from the First Ghost crumbles under the Rangers' attacks.

With the First Robinson Rangers RCT victorious over the destroyed 1st Ghost Regiment the only thing stopping the AFFS unit from claiming the planet was reinforcements from the Eighth Sword of Light Regiment and the Exeter Division mercenary command.  Despite Tarncred Sandoval's continued presence on the planet for upwards of three further weeks the AFFS are unable to break these elite commands and are forced to retreat back into the Federated Suns.  Duke Sandoval is content with the results of his battle the unit that attempted to kill his daughter however as he retreats back into the Draconis March he finds that those who are duty bound to serve the Draconis March and Robinson's Duke have launched their own reprisal strikes against the Draconis Combine bringing war to the Federated Suns and Draconis Combine.

Nice update for the weekend...  Looks like its a start of the Draconis March(FS) vs DC border war?   Also, its nice to see the LCAF use a full RCT to guard a part of their Periphery against two small periphery powers!  Feels like you will end or start the New Year with a bang in your AU?  More!

Now to finish December 3094 - I've got most of the start of 3095 done as well so most likely have another update soon.

Clan Wolf Council, Tamar City
Tamar, Clan Wolf Occupation Zone
3rd December 3094

For several months Clan Wolf cluster commanders had questioned why the Clan had been importing massive amounts of Nuberu Anti-Aircraft Tanks from Clan Snow Raven.  These questions had intensified when the Wolves debuted the Aesir Medium Anti-Aircraft Vehicle deploying multiple vehicles in supporting rolls with the Nuberu.

The Clan Wolf leader calls for all bloodnamed warriors to report to Tamar and to attend an immediate Clan Wolf Council.  Once assembled, in late December, the Khan briefs the gathered Wolves on his Clan's plan for the future; a plan that had begun by the Nathan Fetladral and Khan Silas Kufahl in 3086 and was known to a select few.  The reaction to the news varies among the Wolf Touman a few question the Khan's path while others relish the challenge the Wolf Khan has chosen for them.

Second AFFS Assault Wave
Draconis Combine/Federated Suns Border
5th December 3094

While Duke Tancred Sandoval is engaged with the First Ghost and the Eighth Sword of Light Regiments on Marduk military officials in the Draconis March take the Field Marshal's actions as a call to the Draconis March to expand the AFFS attacks on the Draconis Combine.  With six House regiments and several mercenary commands supporting them the AFFS units within the Draconis March launch an assault on Capra, Gandy's Luck, Waponeta and Sadalbari.  Despite heavy resistance the AFFS successfully secure Capta and Sadalbari continuing to threaten Gandy's Luck and Waponeta.  On Robinson military leaders, in absence of Tarncred Sandoval, plan a third and fourth wave of attacks intended on bringing the Combine to its knees.  Among those units involved in the fighting is the First McCarron's Armoured Cavalry Regiment, who along with the Fourth Robinson Rangers LCT, are involved in a large battle on Waponeta with the Third Amphigean and the Third An Ting Legion Regiments.

Twelfth Whitting Conference
Unity City, North America
Terra, Star League Protectorate
7th December 3094

At the Twelfth Whitting Conference Anthony Brett-Marik, Captain-General of the Duchy of Tamarind-Abby, is elected the new First Lord of the Star League Defence Force.  With his election Anthony supports the Oriente Protectorate's admittance to the Star League.  The Capellan Confederation and Magistracy of Canopus attempt to block the nomination however they are quickly out voted by the other states.  The Oriente Protectorate is added to the Star League with no voting rights for three years much like the states that had been added before them.  Duke Christopher Halas, brother to Jonas Halas, becomes Oriente's member to the Star League Advisory Council.

Following the initial meeting the Federated Suns provide construction information required for the upgraded Lithium Fusion Battery to the Star League Council with the intention for the technology to be spread throughout the Star League states.  Several other minor details are brought to the Star League Council's attention including the new Stone Spirit threat - which the Lyran Archon down plays – the new fighting along the Draconis Combine/Federated Suns border and the continued expansion of the SLDF.

Diplomatic Meeting, Davion Wing
Whitting Conference Centre, Unity City
Terra, Star League Protectorate
8th December 3094

First Prince Victor Steiner-Davion watched as President Jerry Able approached him hobbling toward with his cane “President Able, welcome to the Council, it was a surprise to see you however I hear congratulations are in order.”  Able looked at him with a questioning glance “your election result.”

Jerry Able felt the the hairs prick up on the back of his neck at the First Prince's use of the word election; little surprise from someone born to lead a nation.  He'd seen the 'election' of the new First Lord and hadn't been all that impressed the politics and counter moves the various Succession Lords had made made a mockery of the word election.  One thing that had impressed Jerry was that Victor had voted against his brother's nomination; in an effort to ensure the Star League did not become a plaything of the Steiner-Davion family. “Thank you, First Prince Davion” he said “I was wondering if we could discuss a couple of matters?”  He asked

â€œPresident Able, the Council heard your call for assistance, the SLDF are currently deployed to face the Jade Falcons, Rasalhague Dominion and to face threats from within the Inner Sphere.”  He said he didn't have to mention the heavy fighting ongoing between the Federated Suns and Draconis Combine which was currently drawing the SLDF's attention in one direction and the Lyran Commonwealth/Marik-Stewart Commonwealth in another direction.  The Rim Collection's request for assistance had gained little interest from the SLDF member states even with the Rim Collection offering to sweeten the deal with the trade of several Titan-class DropShips; another surprise for the SLDF who had no idea that they had enough of them to trade.  The Taurian Concordat, Capellan Confederation and the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth all accepted the offer to trade for the Titan-class vessels netting the Rim Collection technology from all corners of the Inner Sphere.

â€œI understand the SLDF have no interest in assisting us” Jerry Able said angrily he'd have thought the Stone Spirit threat would gain more interest; especially considering the strong indications of the Stone Spirit's Clan history.  “I wondered if the Federated Suns would be interested in assisting us?”

â€œWhy would we?”  Victor asked “you are on the other side of the Inner Sphere from us.  And we have no need for Titan DropShips or access to Clan technology from your Mandrill guests.”  During his time as First Lord he had learned of the Clan Fire Mandrill remnant forces in the Rim Collection; what little of them remained.

â€œHow about a Whirlwind-class Destroyer?”  He asked seeing the First Prince's interest being peaked by the mention of the ship.  “It is a Mandrill vessel, the Warsaw, heavily damaged during the Mandrill evacuation of their Homeworlds.”

â€œAnd the Mandrills would be willing to trade it?”  Victor asked he knew the Clan had some WarShips left over after their mysterious evacuation of the Clan Homeworlds.  He also knew they'd been keeping them out of sight so outsiders could not strike at them he knew they had a couple of merchant ships and a New Syrtis-class Carrier, which his analysts had taken an interest in, but not a Whirlwind.

â€œAff” Able said before realizing what he had said “I mean yes” he said correcting himself having spent so much time dealing with Clansmen it had become a habit; one that Victor actually understood with his dealings with the Khans.  “The ship is badly damaged but the Mandrills would be willing to make a trade.”

   â€œFor?”  Victor asked

â€œI have some ideas but the Mandrills will ultimately make that decision, First Prince.”  Able admitted he could speak all he wanted about the Warsaw but it was up to the Mandrills to agree to the trade; if it benefited the Collection all the better.

â€œUnfortunately I cannot come to your Collection to negotiate with them...”  Victor began

â€œI understand First Prince Davion” Able said “but you do not have to, a representative of Clan Fire Mandrill is on-board my JumpShip ready to meet with you.”

â€œIn the Terran system?”  Victor asked angrily to have clansmen in the Terran system was not what Victor wanted to hear.  "You know what could be said if the other Clans were aware of this?"  The danger this periphery state had brought with them.

â€œDon't give me that” Able said with as much anger “I know from my contact with the Sea Fox Clan that they have had access to the Terran system.”  He said the Sea Foxes had recovered three WarShips, of all things from the system, never once setting foot on Terra. “I have one member of Clan Fire Mandrill with me, one, now do you want to meet with her or do you want to be a stuck up Succession Lord?”  He asked Able no longer cared if Victor was the First Prince of the Federated Suns or a Cameron reborn he came here to offer the man a deal it was his choice to agree or disagree.

â€œOkay” Victor said stepping down he wanted to meet this Mandrill and the possibility of adding another Whirlwind to his fleet could not be ignored. “I will meet with your representative.  Have them transfer to the FSS Black Prince once I am on board. Will I see you there also?”  He asked

â€œYes, First Prince Davion, this trade could effect my nation.”

â€œWould you like to accompany me?”  He asked

â€œNo, I will return to my JumpShip with my own ship, I will meet you again when the Fire Mandrill representative arrives to begin the negotiation then she will not believe that we have made any deals behind her back.”  He explained offering Victor his hand which the First Prince met with a firm shake “I will see you again soon.”

   â€œI look forward to it.”

Diplomatic Meeting, FSS Black Prince (Mercury-class Battleship)
Terra, Star League Protectorate
20th December 3094

The Black Prince met Victor Steiner-Davion roughly a day from the Sol System's star a few hours after the arrival of the First Prince the Rim Collection party including President Able and the Fire Mandrill representative this way the vessel could maintain a 1G thrust which would make negotiations easier.  Victor had been surprised to hear that the Fire Mandrill representative who needed a wheelchair to move around something he had never heard of from a Clansmen let alone a Warrior.

They had come through the Black Prince to one of the massive vessel's many meeting rooms.  “Welcome on board the Black Prince” Victor said greeting them glancing from Able to the Fire Mandrill to see the Clan warrior in a wheelchair; would take a little to get used to he thought.

â€œThank you, First Prince Davion, this is Lysa Djerassi our Fire Mandrill Adjunct to Rim Collection.”

   â€œAdjunct Djerassi” Victor greeted

â€œStar Colonel” Djerassi corrected Able “First Prince Davion you led the SLDF against the Smoke Jaguars, Quiaff?”

â€œAff” Victor replied using the traditional answer to the question “the Smoke Jaguars were brave warriors.”

â€œMisguided warriors” Lysa Djerassi admitted “we Mandrills had no interest in conquest of the Inner Sphere, well most of us didn't, instead we were content with remaining in the homeworlds.”  She said “unfortunately it became... unsafe for us to remain there.”

â€œUnsafe?”  Victor asked pushing the Clan Homeworlds were a mystery to the majority of the Inner Sphere none of the Clans seemed to be willing to discuss it.

â€œAff, it is not something we discuss with outsiders” she answered quickly Victor exchanged glances with President Able who shook his head meaning he didn't know either.  “During this time many of our Clan's assets were lost or badly damaged” she admitted “one such asset is the Warsaw,  a Whirlwind-class Destroyer.”

â€œPresident Able mentioned its presence and the possibility that you may be willing to trade it?”  Victor decided to push it would be of interest to him to try and trade further with the Clan but the Warsaw itself would be a worthy prize.

â€œAff, we would be willing, we wish an Avalon-class Cruiser in trade.”  Lysa Djerassi said Jerry Able looked shocked at the request obviously he had not known the Fire Mandrill request.

â€œWe do not have an active Avalon-class vessel” Victor admitted the three ships that were commissioned into the Federated Suns Navy were all in the Kathil system docked with the McKenna Shipyards in various states of disrepair.  “Also given your recent actions against the Lyran Commonwealth I am not comfortable with giving you a vessel capable of the destruction that the Avalon is.”

â€œThen I guess that you would not be willing to trade us any of your war vessels?”  Jerry Able added in “despite the dangerously active Stone Spirit forces on our border?”

â€œI know little of these Stone Spirits” Victor admitted “I would be interested in finding out more.”

â€œWe can provide you with our intelligence data.”  Jerry Able said help from the Federated Suns or Star League Defence Force would be greatly appreciated.

â€œThat is not enough for our WarShip despite its state” Lysa Djerassi stated.

â€œI would appreciate your intelligence data” Victor said “however I would also like to deploy a small AFFS Special Operations force to the Rim Collection to investigate the Stone Spirit threat and assist in shoring up your defences.”

â€œNot enough” Lysa Djerassi said “we came to this negotiation willing to trade with you however you seem to want a lot for very little.  We can deal with the Stone Spirit threat just give us the tools to complete the job.”

â€œAnd what would you do with that once the Stone Spirits were dealt with?  Turn them on the Lyran Commonwealth?”

â€œWe do not have the resources, manpower or the ambition to act like the Jade Falcons or Wolves” the wheelchair bound woman said angrily Victor wasn't sure if she was angry at him or angry at the fact that the Fire Mandrills had been brought so low.

â€œI can confirm this” Able said “the Mandrills, despite their rocky start in the Rim Collection, have been very helpful to our people.  Their WarShip forces are a source of security to our citizens, however, even if we were able to repair or replace the Warsaw with a vessel capable of a similar amount of firepower they would not be enough to take on a single LCAF Squadron” Able confirmed.

â€œWhat if I offered you something that could maintain your current strength over the long term?”  Victor offered “the AFFS has a Fox Block III Refit and Repair Vessel which at this moment is under-construction which we could trade to you for the Destroyer.  Your people would be able to repair any damage that your vessels have already taken and to maintain them and your JumpShips over a long term.”

â€œA repair vessel...” Lysa Djerassi began before Jerry Able cut in.

â€œCould help us over an indefinite period of time.”  The President said smiling looking at the Fire Mandrill Star Colonel “think generations from now could benefit from it” he pointed out WarShips if maintained had a habit of remaining active for many years.

â€œTo put aside some of the fears you have” Victor said “I will assign a Robinson-class Transport Vessel to the AFFS detachment who will accompany the Repair Vessel to the the Rim Collection.  For the duration of the time until the Warsaw is ready to make the trip to the Federated Suns the vessel and its detachment will be at your disposal, President Able?  It's firepower should provide great assistance against the Stone Spirits.”  Lysa Djerassi and Jerry Able exchanged glances and a brief nod was exchanged.

â€œI believe we have a deal First Prince” the Fire Mandrill Adjunct said “your people will be monitored closely during their time with us.  If they take any action that harms Clan Fire Mandrill we will take the appropriate action” she warned.

â€œThey will be welcome guests of the Rim Collection, First Prince Davion” offering the softer approach.  Victor was not sure how exactly the relationship between the Rim Collection and Clan Fire Mandrill worked; it seemed like an interesting and possibly a slightly dysfunctional relationship but it also appeared to be one that worked.  When he briefed the troops that would be going to the Rim Collection he would order them to pay attention to the President and his people and to watch the Fire Mandrills very carefully.  He did not get the impression that Able's people were subservient to the Clansmen, at least Able was not, but the Mandrills obviously had great pull over the people who lived there.

Taurus Territorial Industries
Orbital Facility, Sterope
Taurian Concordat
27th December 3094

After more than two years of hard work the Taurus Territorial Industries JumpShip yard is completed in orbit over Sterope.  The shipyards waste no time in beginning to construct their first Hyades-class JumpShip.  To ensure that the planet and the shipyards are protected the Taurians assign three squadrons, a total of eighteen, TIG-40 Foxhound Gunboats and one of the Titan-class DropShips; which would be assigned once it arrived from the Rim Collection.  On the ground two regiments of Taurian Defence Forces found themselves assigned to the planet's defence.

Hope you all enjoyed 3094 feel free to comment or ask questions.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

To celebrate the beginning of 2015 here's the start of 3095

3095

Concealed Location, Prosperity Point
Quentin, Addicks PDZ
Draconis March, Federated Suns
1st January 3095

On a rooftop opposite the Quentin planetary duke's official residence The Bounty Hunter, Aoife O'Kyan, laid concealed by a camouflage tarp her eyes focused through a telescopic sight.  Beside her Vic Travers sat with an assault rifle covering her back.  “You have to remember you need an escape route you don't have an RCT supporting you.”

â€œBut I can have team mates” she whispered she'd read lots of reports of the Bounty Hunter's lance mates in combat although she had met none of Travers.

â€œAye you can” he said quietly “but they need to be willing to give up the lives they had as you have, they need to know you might need to let them die in the course of the mission” he cautioned her a Bounty Hunter's companion could die but not the Bounty Hunter “and they, like you, have no qualms about what they are doing.  Take this job why are you taking out this man?”

   â€œIt's the job”

â€œGood, but what's the reason behind it?”

â€œI hadn't thought about it” she admitted it was a job that paid good money.  They were on the Davion side of the Davion/Kurita border the job was to kill the governor of Quentin with no real stipulation on how he died.  She'd initially been tempted to take the Marauder II and walk through the Governor's convoy as he traveled between office and home but Travers had suggested a different route instead now they were here opposite the governor's home with a throw away anti-armour rocket launcher.  Why she'd been asked to kill this man hadn't really occurred to her until now.  Thinking about it quickly she guessed that it was due to the recent fighting between the Draconis March and the Draconis Combine but did it really matter?  He was her target end of story she thought.

â€œGood, you need to find lance mates who feel the same way.”  Travers said “they can't have any issue with what you are doing because if they do you'll fail in your mission.”

â€œI won't fail” she promised him; if she did she'd let down the whole history of the Bounty Hunter she reminded herself.

â€œWhat do you see” Travers asked getting back to the task at hand.

â€œThe target is sitting down to a meal with his family in the left room.  There are two guards visible both outside the home.”

   â€œWhat are they eating?”

â€œLooks like some sort of chicken or turkey; looks nice.”  She admitted

â€œYou know if you fire now you'll kill those children as well?”

â€œWhat if the glass is blast resistant?”  She suggested Travers smiled at her suggestion, a perfectly reasonable, which avoided his own question.

â€œOnly way to find out is to take the shot”

â€œAnd if they survive?”  She asked

â€œThen you get your with to take the Marauder II” he answered gaining a smirk in reply from his successor.  Without another moments hesitation she pulled the trigger sending the rocket towards its target “dump it over the edge” Travers said immediately she complied knocking it over the edge the launcher fell into the communal skip below sinking into the rubbish bags of the people who lived in the area “by the time they find it we'll be long gone” he said leading her down through the building.

Several hours later they arrived back at their Mule-class DropShip.  Outside news of the Governor's assassination had spread rapidly and anti-Davion protesters took to the streets engaging in street brawls with Davion supporters and the local police forces the DropShip's commander convinced the spaceport director to allow them to boost off the planet to escape the violence.  Boosting away from the planet towards a waiting commercial JumpShip Vic Travers officially passed ownership of the “Bounty Hunter” and everything that went with it to Aoife O'Kyan.  The Tradition, a document known to the Bounty Hunter and their successor, was updated with the new owner's signature accepting everything that was the Bounty Hunter past and present.  Almost two weeks later Vic Travers, the DropShip commander and the head technician went their own way from the ship with the ship's XO and the next in line tech stepping up to serve the new Bounty Hunter in a carefully planned procession.  Vic Travers had told Aoife that if she wished she could replace either of them and that there would not be any fuss but he also advised that it wasn't the 'done thing.'  For now she chose to leave the set up as it was, she needed to assemble a team and get another job.

Trial of Possession
Vannes, Chainelane Isles
Periphery
8th January 3095

This trial was over the Wolf Aerospace fighters had been declared victorious over the Sea Fox aerospace fighters Star Colonel Urllo Rhyde maneuvered his Jagatai OmniFighter over the battlefield.  His ship was damaged but operational unlike nearly a trinary of the other OmniFighters that had made up his force. “Blair Fowler, are you among those of the living, Quiaff?”  He asked the Sea Foxes had lost the majority of their Cluster of OmniFighters before surrendering the trial.

â€œAff, Urllo Rhyde, I am alive unlike many of my pilots you Wolves fought a tough battle” she replied.

â€œAs did your own” Urllo Rhyde admitted “this trial is over Star Colonel the Sea Fox will accept the terms of our trial?”

â€œAff, we will” Blair Fowler replied “what do your Wolves need of so many ships?”  She asked inquisitively; just like the tradesmen her Clan were made up of.  The Wolves had called for this trial a trinary of JumpShips each with command vessels, a total of eighteen vessels, to be constructed by the Sea Foxes for the Wolves.  The immediate cost to the Sea Fox would be negligible however any plans they had to increase the size of their JumpShip fleet from their own shipyard would have to be out on hold.

â€œNothing that will threaten your Foxes Blair Fowler only effect the destiny of Kerensky's Chosen Clan.”  Urllo Rhyde answered cryptically giving nothing more away regarding the Wolf intentions.  This move by the Wolves comes at a time of transition following the recent Clan Council with Wolves beginning to transfer power and facilities to Clan Coyote forces throughout their Occupation Zone.  Wolf combat assets withdraw to the inner worlds of the Wolf Occupation Zone still outside Wolf space the Clan's intentions are unknown.  The Sea Fox Watch was at a loss for the Wolf plans with theories ranging from the Wolves moving fully into the Star League Protectorate to become ilClan to the Wolves returning to the Homeworlds, abandoning their Occupation Zone, to take take back those worlds from the Society.

Royal Birth, Forbidden Palace
Forbidden City, Sian
Sian Commonality, Capellan Confederation
20th January 3095

Deep within the Forbidden City Chancellor Dao-Shen Liao and his wife Erin Liao become parents for a second time with the birth of their second daughter Madison Liao who follows the two year old Zeia Liao and confirms Dao-Shen Liao's line will succeed if he passes.

Naval Shipyards of Clipperton
Clipperton, Bowang Free Trade Sphere
Former-Free Worlds League
24th January 3095

After several months of repair work, with the assistance of Clan Sea Fox engineers, the Shipyards of Clipperton begin construction of two new Agamemnon-class Heavy Cruisers.  Neither ship is expected to be ready for testing trials until the turn of the century however many on Clipperton and on Bowang see it as a sign that the shipyards are turning the corner to recovery.  Before the facilities had been damaged they had been capable of building a far greater number vessels at one time and should be again at the rate of the repairs, instead however the engineers and scientists of the shipyards in conjunction with those of the Sea Foxes, they had begun to develop a newer type of WarShip smaller than the Agamemnon and easier to produce in number; which would be shared with the Sea Foxes.

The codename for this new class of vessel is Aumakua, chosen by one of the Sea Fox scientists, is named for the Terran mythological guardian of the islands of Hawaii as this class will be used by both Clan Sea Fox and by the Bowang Free Trade Sphere two versions of the ship will be built one purely made from Clan Technology while the other uses Star League and Inner Sphere technology both versions of the vessel are planned to take advantage of new technology that had been developed such as the upgraded Lithium Fusion Battery and Naval Pulse Laser.  Unfortunately due to the decision to use these technologies it has put the project significantly behind schedule.

Bridge Engineering Monitoring, FSS Intrepid (Fox Block III)
Igualada, Sakhara PDZ
Draconis March, Federated Suns
31st January 3095

Following a Draconis Combine counter assault against the Federated Suns which had brought fighting to the worlds of Tripoli, Breed Paris, Dobson and Le Blanc the AFFS had ordered the engineering crews on board the FSS Intrepid and the FSS Pegasus to get the Columbia-class Battleship off the Combine border as quickly as possible.  Reports had reached the Intrepid that Tripoli, Breed and Paris had fallen to the DCMS assaults; as those worlds had been vacated by the Draconis March assaults against the Draconis Combine.  Fighting was continuing on both Dobson and Le Blanc however reports were that the fighting on Le Blanc was more of a guerrilla battle with the Fox's Teeth and Delta Company keeping the DCMS assault forces busy while the local milita forces held firm.

Leftenant Rodney McGillon sat at his engineering console on board the Intrepid nervously the engineering teams under Major Nathan Heaps worked fourteen hour shifts for the last week attempting to get the Pegasus ready for the jump they were convinced that the ship was ready despite the still heavy damage.  For the last three years they had worked on repairing the massive WarShip removing severely badly damaged systems, emptying her hold of dangerous ammunition and recovering the bodies of dead crewmen who had been trapped in areas exposed to the vacuum of space had this conflict with the Combine not happened they would have maybe been ready to jump the Pegasus in a few months time.  Condensing repairs that would have been done in a few months into seven days had not been an easy task. “Intrepid Engineering Station One to Pegasus CIC report status.”

â€œAs ready as we'll ever be” Leftenant Letizia Ortiz replied after after a few minutes she was his partner in the repair operation on the Pegasus between them they coordinated the internal and external repairs on the battleship. Rodney wasn't convinced that the battleship was ready for the jump but Letizia was she was confident their repairs had gotten the ship ready for the jump, even she wasn't convinced that it would get all the way to Hadrian's Command but if they got the ship into the Crucis March it would be safe from a Combine attack.

â€œI wish” Rodney replied “Captain, Pegasus reports ready to go.”  He reported to his CO moments later.

   â€œThey are sure?”

â€œAs sure as they can be” Rodney replied glancing at his screens the Captain didn't look convinced but then he wasn't an engineer.

â€œHere we go then” he said “docking control lock down all airlocks and release all clamps.”  He ordered “helm draw us back from the Pegasus and prime the KF Drive.”  He said activating the ship-wide announcement system “Intrepid, the Pegasus is preparing to make its first jump since we began our work, lock-down all systems and secure anything that's loose we'll be following them.”  He said signing off “communications let the Pegasus know we can go once we are clear.”

The Intrepid released the Pegasus and began to draw back away from the battleship the  vessel slowly slipped into open space there were several areas on the ship still exposed to the vacuum of space many of her damaged weapons emplacements had been completely ripped off the hull and the area sealed with armour plate giving the craft a patchwork appearance.

â€œPower spike on the Pegasus, they are feeding her KF Drive power, looks like a steady build up.”   Rodney McGillon said looking at the readings his console was tied directly into the Columbia's systems it didn't look good but it seemed to be holding together no leaks.

â€œWe're clear of the Pegasus increasing thrust to 0.5G acceleration” the helm officer said drawing the WarShip into open space.

â€œPegasus, CIC reports positive readings on KF Core the Drive's ready, jump is plotted.”

â€œClear them to depart” the Intrepid Commander said “wish them well.”  Several moments later the Pegasus' KF Drive fired surrounding the WarShip and sending it through the void of space out of the Igualada system.  Rodney McGillon's screens went blank as the ship passed beyond the range of his systems.

â€œPrep our own drive take us to Huan” the commander ordered just over twenty-one light years away; it wasn't out of the woods but it was a step in the right direction.  Soon after the Intrepid completed its jump from the Igualada system to the Huan system's Nadir point.  Already in the system was the FSS Pegasus which had already began to unfurl its jump sail.

â€œYes!” Rodney McGillon said triumphantly seeing the readings from the battleship on his screens light up.

â€œWell done Leftenant, now get a hold of Major Heaps and Ortiz and see when we can make our next jump.”  He ordered the Intrepid would need time to charge its own KF Drive which would allow the people on Pegasus to make quick repairs to any systems that didn't make it through the jump.  Huan was still close to the Combine border they were not safe yet but it was a step in the right direction.

Into February

Things look like it going back to normal of sorts for the inner sphere and periphery powers.

Normal... let's see if you think normal comes into it after this change...  To the Wolf (in-Exile) fans who read this I hope you don't hate it.

Meeting, Wolf City
Arc Royal, Arc Royal Theatre
Donegal Province, Lyran Commonwealth
12th February 3095

Far from the Clan Wolf (in-Exile) Clan Hall Khan Patrik Fetladral and Loremaster Evan Kell along with nearly two Clusters of Exile warriors had secured a building in the merchant sector of the city.  Soon after word of their visitor's arrival had been signaled by their guards.  The two men waited silently the recent death of Ranna Kerensky had effectively placed Evan Kell, as Loremaster, into a position second only to Patrik Fetladral.  Neither liked each others company much but they both agreed that they had to work together to ensure that the Exiles survived, as Evan Kell planned to enter the upcoming trials for a new saKhan, Patrik Fetladral had ensured that he was here for this meeting.

Their wait did not last long as a pair of armoured Elementals entered the room taking up positions next to Patrik Fetladral's own guards.  The Elementals wore armour that was identical to his own down to their paint scheme and the “unique” crest signifying that they were the Wolf Khans escort.  Moments later the reason for this similarity was answered as Khan Nathan Fetladral of Clan Wolf entered the room quickly crossing to the table.  Never in Clan Wolf's history had the Fetladral name been so powerful, two Khans, it was a shame that they had differing political differences Patrik thought before speaking.  “Welcome to Arc Royal” he said raising from the chair “please take a seat” he said indicating to the chair opposite the Exiles.

â€œThank you” Nathan Fetladral said sitting opposite the two Exile leaders “and thank you for agreeing to meet with me.”

â€œYou said you had a proposal for us.”  Evan Kell said before Patrik could ask the reason for the  meeting.

â€œWe are the same you and I” he began “we are Wolves born by the same blood, to the same traditions and the same history.”  Nathan Fetladral began seeing their hostility raising he continued before they could disagree “however we are forever separated by the choices of those that came before us and the beliefs that we hold.”

â€œI agree with you completely; our Clans can never be one again.” Patrik Fetladral said agreeing “our paths have separated.”

â€œWhat is the reason for your visit Wolf Khan, not to remiss over past choices we had no hand in, Quineg?”

â€œNeg, Loremaster, I believe that we should stop living in the past.  As you say in there were decisions made that we were not a part of; beyond our control.”  He said “now however we can control what happens, I have a proposal for you, there are currently two Wolf Clans I wish there to be only one.”

â€œYou come here to declare a Trial of Absorption?”  Patrik Fetladral asked angrily standing to his feet.

â€œNeg, your Wolves and mine should not come into conflict” Nathan Fetladral said raising his open hands in an attempt to show no hostile intent.  “Instead I say that you stop being Exiles and embrace what you are.”

â€œAnd what is that?”  Evan Kell asked

â€œAn independent Clan with its own destiny.”  The leader of the Crusader Wolves said “give up your desire to be the Exiled Wolf and become something your people can be proud of.”

â€œWere it so easy Patrik Fetldral our Wolves believe they have as much right to Kerensky's legacy as yours do.”

â€œBut they are also proud of who they now are and of where they now live” Evan Kell said warriors of his Bloodline were now being born into the Iron Wombs of the Exiles more and more of the freeborns born in Wolf City and beyond were being accepted into the Exile Touman.

â€œWhat do you suggest we become the Lyran Wolf?  Further subjugate ourselves to the Succession State?”  Patrik Fetladral asked.

â€œNeg, we are Wolves but we will never be Lyran Wolves.”  Evan Kell said quietly thinking for a moment “we must be our own people, the Mountain Wolf.”  He said thinking of the BattleMech company owned by the Kell family named for the species of Wolf native to the Lyran homeworld.

â€œMountain Wolf” Patrik Fetladral said sounding out the name “a strong name” he admitted “but one that our Council must rectify.”  He said speaking to Nathan Fetladral.

â€œAff, of course Khan Mountain Wolf” the Wolf leader said reinforcing the name in Patrik Fetladral's mind the Exile leader was not convinced that this was the path for his Clan but it was something he was at least willing the look at.  Looking at the Wolf Khan he knew that this was not the only reason that Nathan Fetladral had visited them.  “Was there anything else, Quiaff?”

â€œAff” he admitted “there are changes coming to Clan Wolf, changes that you would be advised not to interfere with, should you get in our way we will destroy you and all others that are with you.”  He warned the previously friendly tone completely gone from the Wolf leader's voice.  I also wish to challenge your Clan...”

'Here it was' Patrik Fetladral thought quietly the real reason for this visit the Mountain Wolf was a charade.

â€œI wish to challenge you for a copy of all information you have on the Ghosts of the Abyss and the locations your forces engaged them on.  I believe that saKhan Ranna Kerensky transmitted such information to you before her passing.”

'What?  Why do you want that' Patrik Fetladral wondered looking at the Wolf leader not realizing his mouth was silently open in surprise.

â€œWhy do you want this information?”  Evan Kell said regaining his composure more quickly “what good would it do you?”

â€œOur reason is our own” Nathan Fetladral said giving little away to the Wolves motives the two Khan and Loremaster exchanged glances and a nod of agreement.

â€œTo show that we harbour the Wolves no ill and to honour Ranna Kerensky's passing as a Wolf” Evan Kell said stressing that she was a Wolf first not a crusader or warden “we will release the information to you without trial on one condition?”

â€œWhat are we Foxes or Wolves?  There is no conditions we fight for this information in a trial or we do not.”  Nathan Fetladral said angrily after several moments of silence from the two Exiles however he relented “what is your condition?”

â€œThat whatever the Wolves have planned does not effect our Clan or those we protect adversely.”  Evan Kell stated his Wolves would not give their counterparts information that could cause them harm; there was no sense in it.

â€œYour Wolves will not be effected directly by our actions; you may even benefit from our plans.”  He said smiling knowingly both Exile warriors knew that the Wolf had big plans however they also knew what he had planned would not effect them; no Wolf would lie to another even those who were set apart.

â€œThen we will transmit you the information before your JumpShip leaves the system.  We will consider your... other proposal.”  Patrik Fetladral said raising to his feet Nathan Fetladral nodded raising from his own seat.

â€œIt was only a suggestion” Nathan Fetladral said “I am glad we were able to meet like this, as Wolves, it is how the Founder would have wanted it I am sure.  He said without another word the Wolf Khan walked from the room followed by his Elementals Patrik Fetladral slipped back into his chair.

   â€œTheory?”

â€œThe Wolf plan will change many things” Evan Kell said it wasn't an answer, it wasn't nearly one, just a feeling he had.

â€œMountain Wolf?  The Kell factory name?”

â€œThe Kells are as part of this Clan as any other, Patrik, Phelan Kell's blood does not just run through my veins it will soon run through many others in our Touman.  Our Clan is also a part of the Lyran society the name fits on both accounts.”

â€œAnd I assume that you would like to push through your other agenda also, Quiaff?”

â€œAff, I have been able to gain the Kell name because of my bloodline, the trueborns that follow Phelan Kell and me should be allowed to fight for the right as well.”

â€œAnd what of the Kells in the Lyran Commonwealth?  Their reaction may not be a good one.”

â€œTo hell with them” Evan Kell admitted “we are Wolves they will accept what we do or they will not but we must continue.”

â€œSpoken like a Wolf” Patrik Fetladral said proudly remaining silent for several minutes “fine we push on with both.  You are correct the future Kell Bloodhouse should have its voice, the warriors deserve their place within our Clan and the right to fight for a bloodname.  The Mountain Wolves...” he mused “a new start for our Clan after all these years in Exile” he wondered.

â€œNot a new start” Evan Kell said “embracing what we now are, we are not the Wolves who came to conquer, we are the wolves who come from our homes and defend those who need us.”

â€œYou are moonlighting as a part-time soothsayer, perhaps you should join the Nova Cats, quineg?”

â€œNeg I am a Wolf” Evan Kell said bringing a smile now to the face of Patrik Fetladral, perhaps he could work with this young wolf after all.

In the weeks that followed the meeting between the Exile leaders and Nathan Fetladral a series of changes happened on Arc Royal.  First was the public acknowledgment by the Wolf leadership that Kell blood had been mixed into the Iron Wombs and the first warriors were already training to be Wolf warriors and that in the future they would be allowed to fight for the Kell Bloodname as Evan Kell had done.  This initially sent a few ripples through the Wolf Touman however most already considered the Kell name as their own in the Lyran Commonwealth there were slightly larger ripples with many questioning the loyalty of the “true” Kell line that resided on Arc Royal questions that were rapidly answered by Duchess Megan Kell.  Although Megan did not condemn the Exile actions she did point out that the Kell Family would always be a Lyran family first and foremost.

The second change to the Exiles caused far greater ripples within the Wolf ranks Khan Patrik Fetladral and new named saKhan Evan Kell jointly proposed at a Council meeting of all the Bloodnamed warriors in Clan Wolf (in-Exile) that they officially change their name to the Mountain Wolf.  Initially even thought of changing their Clan's name was seen as grounds for a Trial of Grievance with both the Khan and saKhan defeating opponents in Circles of Equals to ensure their ideas could be heard.

Both Wolf Khans explained their reasons behind their idea.  Since their discussion with Khan Nathan Fetladral both Khans had spoken with each other at length on the subject looking at the various reasons behind supporting the change and against it.  The two Khans explained their reasons to the Clan Warriors and each reason was debated for nearly eighteen hours without recess although several of the Wolves were unhappy with even the mention of changing their Clan's name many of the others, many of the younger generation and others who would happily drop the stigma of the in-Exile tag.

Eventually the vote was called and once the counts had been made and checked Clan Wolf (in-Exile) was no-more and Clan Mountain Wolf had arisen.  For the short term future the Mountain Wolf Clan would have problems with old warriors that they were no longer 'Wolf' warriors.  Khan Patrik Fetladral would also have to explain to the Lyran Archon why the Tharkad's national animal now had a Clan named after it.

Mission Rubicon, Outrageous Fortune (Merchant-class JumpShip)
Sharpe, Sian Commonality
Capellan Confederation
17th February 3095

With Terra and Unity City under the control of the reborn SLDF there was a magnitude of information available to the SLDF.  To help sort through the information, specifically indicators towards lost SLDF Caches, the SLDF had hired civilians employed by Interstellar Expeditions.  Once they had found something interesting this was passed to the SLIC for further analysis and tasked with a scouting group to confirm if anything remained in some cases Interstellar Expeditions were hired to  follow up on the find as well due to a shortage of available JumpShips operating with the SLIC.

This was the case with this particular mission according to every map from the fall of the First Star League throughout the Succession Wars and into modern times the Sharpe system of the Capellan Confederation did not exist.  However on 'original' SLDF the system existed and was home to the the Sharpe Rifles Regiment, a unit of the St Ives Armoured Cavalry, after the fall of the Star League and the beginning of the First Succession War there was no mention of it.  The First Succession War was devastating with whole worlds destroyed but even those that had been destroyed there was still records of them Sharpe seemed to just disappear.

In an effort to discover what had happened to the system the Interstellar Expeditions Merchant-class JumpShip Outrageous Fortune had been tasked to jump into the system and discover what had happened to the system.  Entering via the system's Nadir jump point the JumpShip had immediately been confronted by dozens of metallic signatures between them and the planet including one massive space station.  With aerospace fighters approaching them the Outrageous Fortune fast charged its KF Drive escaping the system heading for the nearest SLDF outpost on Kittery.

Gilmour MilTech Test Grounds
Talitha, Star League Protectorate
21st February 3095

Several SLDF officials stood with the directors of Gilmour MilTech Industries near their factory on Talitha watching the sky.  Gilmour was one of the few places within the Inner Sphere capable of full scale production of Land Air Mechs (LAMs) and Gilmour's contract with the SLDF gave them much latitude in who they dealt with.  The Marik-Stewart Commonwealth and Draconis Combine were both routine customers of Gilmour MilTech however for this contract they were offering the SLDF Exclusive access.

â€œLadies and Gentlemen” Director Arthur Caldwell began “in the late days of the first Star League Martinson Armaments worked on a new Land Air Mech design.”  He said as a roar of an engine began to fill the air “this design was co-opted by Amaris and his forces following their occupation of Terra during the Star League Civil War.”  He explained it wasn't the best topic to bring before SLDF officers and officials but it was history “the design was miss used by the Amaris and did not impress.”  He explained “the design is intended as a flanker and harassment unit but they tried to use it as a front-line unit where it did not work” he said as the aircraft came into range.

The aircraft was as large as most medium aerospace fighters with wings that extended from mid-way along the fighter to the rear.  Under the right wing there appeared to be a single large weapon.  The aircraft turned slowly towards them diving to a lower altitude as it did the LAM began to convert first into an Air-Mech, part way between a Mech and an aerospace fighter, and then into a BattleMech as it closed on them igniting its jump jets lowering it slowly to the ground.

â€œAllow me to present you with the SCR-1X LAM Screamer” Arthur Caldwell said as the Mech walked towards them “built on a fifty-five ton chassis the Screamer is able to keep up with most Inner Sphere BattleMechs on the ground with the added bonus of being able to convert into an Aerospace Fighter.  It is armed with an Extended-Range Particle Cannon which can be used on the ground or in the air and it has two internal bomb bays which can be employed in its aerospace fighter mode.”  He said seeing the SLDF Officials taking an interest now they could see the Mech before them “due to the work originally done by Martinson Armaments, and rejected by Amaris, we can begin production of this design immediately for the exclusive use of the SLDF.  Alternatively it will be available for the general market by the end of the year.”  He said he didn't need to mention the availability for the design however from the comments he could hear them say to each other he knew that Gilmour MilTech would be producing these Mechs for the SLDF for the foreseeable future.

Arthur Caldwell had hoped the new technology that Gilmour MilTech had been working on would be ready for the Screamer however there were still problems with the equipment.  Instead for now the Screamer and Gilmour's Shadow Hawk LAM would have to remain in their original configurations.

Base Camp, Thunder Road Mercenary Command
Darby, Bowang
Bowang Free Trade Sphere, Former-Free Worlds League
28th February 3095

With the agreement signed the Thunder Road had moved into their new base camp, which as part of their agreement with Bowang would belong to them, Colonel John Wrangler was not completely happy with the facilities on offer.  Although Bowang had long been regarded as a trade hub and it had been the capital of the Bowang Free Trade Sphere for seven years it had never been high on military expenditure with only a couple of bases on the planet renovated to modern standards.  This particular fire base which had been gifted to the Thunder Road had been abandoned since the Second Succession War when Lyran Commonwealth forces severely damaged the base during a long range strike.

â€œLook first we concentrate on the Mech bays.”  Wrangler said to his chief tech “we can man those walls all day and all night but our Mechs will not maintain themselves.”  He pointed out “first the Mechbays then accommodations and the kitchens.”  He said first the Mechs, the unit's lifeblood, then accommodations; the DropShip beds they were currently sleeping in were not designed for long term stays despite how comfortable their ship was.  The kitchens were another priority as at the moment they were boosting the local Bowang economy with their take-away meals and eating out  Wrangler knew that it wouldn't take long before the cost of all this “eating out” bankrupted the unit even with some of the discounts being offered to them as “Defenders of Bowang.”

Bowang had hired them in good faith as a long term training and raiding unit however this base had a lot to be desired about it Wrangler believed that it was more likely that the Bowang Government had given it to them to save the cost in ripping it down.  One major positive of the base was that it had been designed to service an entire regiment which would give the Thunder Road plenty of space to expand should they find the funds to do so.  The base also had its own dedicated landing pads for three spheroid type DropShips the Thunder Road only had one DropShip at present but again in the future it could benefit them greatly.

John Wrangler had never been a man who had considered settling down he had always wanted to be a MechWarrior and had always known that would mean moving from base to base and planet to planet.  However this offer from Bowang was too good the Thunder Road would make in the next six years what they would normally make in nine years and Bowang had stated that after their term was over another contract would be offered, however, if the Thunder Road wished to seek employment elsewhere they could AND more importantly keep the fire-base as their own.  It wasn't Outreach, Northwind or Arc-Royal he thought thinking of the homes of some of the bigger mercenary commands however it was a significant step in the right direction.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Time for an update as I'm still on days off - time to make JA Baker/Starbug happy...

Deep Space Meeting, Warden (Thera-class Carrier)
Periphery
9th March 3095

In the periphery between the Raven Alliance and the Nova Cat's Den Khan Canin Rosse and Khan Sterling McKenna met on board the newly recommissioned Thera-class Carrier Warden.  At this meeting the Ravens and Nova Cats agreed to trade their Drake-class Corvette and Splendid-class Cruisers.  The Ravens were in deep need of a smaller ship than their current crop of vessels while the Nova Cats see the Splendid as a potential replacement for their multiple cruiser classes.  As the Ravens are parting with a Cruiser and the Nova Cats a Corvette the Nova Cats sweeten the deal by trading in a Carrack Merchant-class Transport, the Far Star.

Following this agreement the two Khans suggest an ongoing dialogue between the Clans and a formalized series of trials between the two Clans that would form a type of training for their naval crews.  The idea being that neither Clan loses any WarShips but their crews are able to maintain their skills each Clan agrees that small but notable prizes will be placed at stake for these “training exercises.”

Border Raid
Graceland, Arc Royal Theatre
Donegal Province, Lyran Commonwealth
15th March 3095

The Gray Death Legion Mercenary Regiment defend Graceland from a determined Clan Jade Falcon attack taking heavy damage as they do.  During the fighting the Gray Death Infiltrator Battle Armour suit proves to be invaluable to the mercenaries and their Lyran Commonwealth allies with the Jade Falcons unable to break the Gray Death's defence they retreat back into their occupation zone.

Hospital Suite, Avalon City General Hospital
Avalon City, New Avalon
Crucis March, Federated Suns
17th March 3095

Ariana Steiner forced her eyes to open she felt pain from head to toe something was wrong she tried to remember what she had last seen but as her vision cleared she could see a dark skinned male dressed in the clothing of a doctor “Ah you're awake” he said smiling broadly “can you hear me?”  He asked Ariana nodded which was agony in its own “good” he said holding up three fingers “how many fingers am I holding up?”  He asked basic questions she thought just how injured was she.

â€œThree” she said her lips were cracked and sore her mouth dry

â€œVery good” he said reaching over holding a glass in front of her mouth “sip it slowly now” he said the water felt like it was frozen as it touched her lips and mouth running down her throat “slowly” he said as she drank she thought about what had happened; how had she gotten her?  She remembered being in a car with her parents Reinhart and Faith Steiner, her father had been ill recently so she'd been driving, there had been an accident and then nothing.

â€œWhere are my parents?”  She whispered

â€œRest now” he said removing the glass glancing across the bed nodding before leaving the room.  Ariana followed where he had looked to see Duchess Danai Centrella-Davion.

â€œAunt Danai?”  She said surprised to see the First Prince's wife Danai Centrella-Davion was not her aunt by blood but her family's closeness to Reinhart Steiner's family had made her more closely related than anyone else in the world.  “Where are my parents?  Are they ok?”  She demanded

â€œEasy Ariana” the woman whispered leaning forward helping Ariana back down “you don't want to open any of your wounds” she explained “what do you remember?”

â€œWe were in a car a large goods vehicle lost control ahead of us” she said remembering the events more clearly “I swerved to avoid it... someone else swerved at the same time...” she said her breath becoming more rapid “we hit them and rolled over and over” she said looking down at her bandaged hands “there was a fire, then I remember nothing.”

â€œA small mercy, your wounds will heal in time” Danai said offering her a sad small smile “your vehicle separated into two halves” she said “the forward section where you were was carried away through the fires and came to a relative stop over a hundred metres from the rear section.”

   â€œAnd the rear...”

â€œThe rear, containing your parents, became wedged under another vehicle and... and was consumed by the flames” she said fighting back the tears moving up onto the edge of the bed “I'm sorry Ariana your parents were both killed.”  She said the tears running down her cheeks the injured woman rolled over in her bed despite the pain and cried a thousand tears mourning her loss.  Ariana barely heard Danai's offer of a place for her to stay at the Davion Palace; her world had fallen apart.

Within the Federated Suns a collective mourning for Reinhart Steiner began the man that had followed Victor Steiner-Davion back to the Federated Suns with the Tenth Lyran Guards, despite his Lyran heritage, who had fought for everything that Hanse Davion and Melissa Steiner believed in when they formed the Federated Commonwealth.  Reinhart had not only been a figurehead for that lost state he had embraced his life in the Federated Suns fought and bled alongside its people and created a family there.

Due to the ongoing conflict with the Draconis Combine First Prince Victor Steiner-Davion had little time to mourn the passing of his cousin and friend instead he quickly named the recently retired Galen Cox as the new Martial of Armies.  Galen who had fought alongside Reinhart and Victor during the Clan War had been serving as Field Marshal Paul Bowman's aide on Tikonov serving the Crucis March until his announced plans to retire the in the latter half of 3094.  Never a man that was would turn his back on duty, or the First Prince, Galen accepted the post on a temporary basis.

Counter-strike
New Mendham, Irurzin Prefecture
Military District of Benjamin, Draconis Combine
23rd March 3095

With Federated Suns forces continuing to fight on Weaponeta and Gandy's Luck First Prince Victor Steiner-Davion leading the Davion Assault Guards RCT and the First New Avalon Guards RCT supported by the FSS Black Prince, the first Mercury-class Battleship, and the FSS Dresari, a Davion III-class Destroyer, launch a strike across the border from Proserpina against New Mendham.  The First Prince's strategy is simple cut off the attacking Combine forces starving their attacks on the Federated Suns' Draconis March.

In orbit over New Mendham a massive amount of aerospace forces defended the world as the DCMS had identified the world as key to holding open their offensive line.  Within his DropShip Victor Steiner-Davion sat in the cockpit of his Dire Wolf OmniMech watching the screens the FSS Dresari was remaining close to the DropShips shielding them from Pocket WarShip and aerospace fighter attack however the FSS Black Prince was acting far more aggressively.

Using the vessel's massive speed advantage over its opponents the FSS Black Prince had set a course that would take it past the edge of the DCMS forces allowing it to concentrate on one of the two DCMS WarShips at a time while being able to defend against the other vessel's attacks.  Its first target was the DCS Nagato, one of the Combine's three active Yamato-class Battleships, Victor watched his screens holding his breath as the FSS Black Prince approached the DCS Nagato nose first slamming the one and a half million ton Combine WarShip with naval gauss rifle and particle cannon as it approach causing massive damage before angling away from the WarShip at the final moment to show its starboard broadside sixteen heavy naval autocannons spat almost as one slamming into the DCS Nagato's nose and forward arcs causing huge amounts of damage.

Both the DCS Nagato and the DCS Vincent Kurita, an Omi Kurita-class Carrier, engaged the FSS Black Prince with their own weapons; a combination of naval lasers, particle cannons and gauss rifles.  However due to the FSS Black Prince's speed the DCMS vessels were unable to cause large amounts of damage as the AFFS vessel had caused on the DCS Nagato.  As the FSS Black Prince turned for another pass aerospace fighters from the DCS Vincent Kurita attempted to assault the DropShips streaming towards the surface however they were met by the steadfast defence of the FSS Dresari.  Named for the family who ruled Kentares IV the vessel's crew were well versed in the atrocities committed by the Combine troops.  The FSS Dresari moved itself in a way to spoil the aerospace fighter and DropShip attacks forcing them back towards their carrier vessels.

As Victor Steiner-Davion's DropShip the atmosphere the FSS Black Prince had completed its turn and was making a second charge at its enemy.  Unlike the first time the FSS Black Prince had used its speed to get in behind the two Draconis Combine WarShips moving through their aft arcs, this avoided the majority of their firepower, and allowed the Battleships gunners to land a series of crippling naval autocannon strikes on the DCS Nagato's main engines.  The DCS Vincent Kurita instead of taking the same punishment moved forward engaging the Federated Suns Battleship at long range causing minimal damage as the FSS Black Prince moved in around the DCS Nagato punishing the Yamato-class Battleship with a third pass.  As the Mercury-class vessel moved away escape pods began to jettison from the dying WarShip.  The DCS Vincent Kurita seeing the death of the DCS Nagato and having the FSS Dresari closing on it elected to retreat to fight another day collecting its aerospace fighters as it headed into deep space.

As First Prince Victor Steiner-Davion stepped his OmniMech off its DropShip he was greeted with a massive fireball streaking across the sky as the remains of the DCS Nagato lost orbit and plunged into the atmosphere.  The damage already caused the the WarShip caused the Battleship to shatter into four pieces which slammed into the planet's largely unpopulated northern polar region.  Spurned on by their naval victory the AFFS forces launched a full assault on the Ninth and Fifteenth Benjamin Regular Regiments, which had been assigned to defend the planet, the Davion Assault Guards and First New Avalon Guards were arguably the heaviest regimental combat teams in the entire AFFS with both fielding heavy/assault Mech and armour units supported by full brigades of Battle Armour equipped infantry forces do not allow the Regulars a moment of peace pushing them back continuously over a week of heavy fighting eventually forcing both units to surrender to the AFFS.  News soon reached the First that the AFFS and Mercenary Forces resisting the Draconis Combine on Weponeta and Gandy's Luck had successfully captured both worlds following the arrival of the Second and Third Ceti Hussars RCTs along with those regiment's attached WarShip forces.

Time for a short month

Combat Training Centre, Osis Minor
Robinson, Robinson PDZ
Draconis March, Federated Suns
13th April 3095

At the Robinson's Combat Training Centre on Osis Minor an unidentified Robinson Regiment being carried by Federated Suns registered DropShips lands and occupies the training centre with minimal resistance.  Because the DropShips were registered as Federated Suns vessels they had been allowed passed the FSS Audacity, a First Prince Block II-class Battleship, which had been guarding the Nadir point.  Until landing at the Combat Training Centre the DropShips had not caused any trouble however upon their arrival on Robinson the troops ordered all AFFS Trainers and Trainees to leave the facility an took up defensive positions.

On hearing this Duke Tancred Sandoval placed the recently returned, and heavily understrength, First Robinson Rangers RCT on alert along with the First Robinson Training Battalion together the two units should have enough firepower to overcome any force that may cause threat to Robinson and the greater Federated Suns he also recalled the FSS Audacity to the planet, a transit which would take approximately seven days, during those seven days Duke Tancred planned to find out who these people were.

With his Templar OmniMech destroyed in the fighting on Marduk the Duke took to the field in a newly finished BLK-NT-5H Black Knight BattleMech.  Marching his Mech towards the Training Centre Tancred activated his communications systems “this is Duke Tancred Sandoval identify yourself, your reason for being on this planet and what right you believe you have in occupying that facility?”  He demanded over an open military frequency.

â€œMy authority is my birthright” a voice replied a few moments later it took Tancred a few more moments to recognize the voice “Jerome?”

â€œYou do remember me cousin” the other man said “so you can see my family's money paid for this building, this entire facility.”

â€œNo, the people of the Federated Suns built this facility, we rule this March with the blessing of the people and of the Davion family.”

â€œYou know that's bull, Tancred, our family have made this March what it is without us Little Victor could never run the Federated Suns.”  His cousin replied Tancred could feel his blood begin to boil at the insolent little man what did he think he could accomplish here?

â€œAnd your regiment? Mercenaries” Tancred asked there was at least a regiment of BattleMechs in and around the Training facility.

â€œNot one of them” Jerome replied “every single one of them was born and bred in the Draconis March on worlds that we have ruled for all our lives.”  His cousin said “every Mech was purchased using funds that I and my associate put forward this is the First Robinson Strikers Regiment.”

â€œYou have no right to use that name” Tancred snapped back “I believe that we should meet Joseph face to face and discuss your plans here today.”

â€œI agree one hour from now in the main training hall?  You and I?”

â€œAgreed, my command company will accompany me to the perimetre.  Make sure your people are aware of our approach.”  The Robinson Duke warned.

â€œThey will be, Tancred, they are well trained people.”

An hour later Tancred and his company approached the Training Centre the Mechs around the facility allowed them to close before closing the gap of their approach.  Tancred left his BattleMech, leaving the rest of his company to guard while he moved into the facility which was a deadly silent since the trainees had been evacuated.  In the meeting hall his cousin stood smiling he wore his AFFS uniform with a sword on his weapons belt “hello Tancred.”

   â€œHello Jerome”

â€œI am sorry it has come to this”

â€œWhat has it come to?”  Tancred asked his cousin's hands were away from the weapon.

â€œIt time for you to give up your position and pass it to someone who is ready to take responsibility for it.”  Jerome said in a matter of fact answer.

   â€œYou're being serious?”

â€œYes, you had no right to begin this conflict with the Draconis Combine.”

â€œThey tried to kill my family; your family!”  Tancred said angrily anyone could understand his actions; revenge was hardly a new thing in the Inner Sphere.

â€œYes, but instead of planning an invasion you led a pitiful strike that cost you the majority of an RCT and started a WAR.”

â€œI didn't start the war, those on Robinson did, who's to say that those who are eying my position did not influence that?”  He asked his cousin burst into laughter

â€œYou think I would actually need to?”  Jerome asked “you cannot even control your commanders of this March, Tancred, if you are not in their presence.  They need a firmer hand than you've been giving them.”

â€œYou're right” Tancred admitted they had started this because he had attacked the Combine.  They needed to understand a raid did not mean a war.  “But it's not you or Mordecai that need to be that hand.”  Tancred said revealing his hand he knew the two cousins were close and after finding out Jerome was leading this force he put two and two together. Mordecai had put the funds into Jerome's hands, if Jerome removed him then Mordecai could be the power behind the throne or if the two came into conflict he could step in as the reasonable alternative even Victor could believe that.

â€œOur cousin believes in fair representation for all the March.”

â€œFair representation?  You mean further funding and defence contracts to his backwater?”  Mordecai ruled Mayetta one of the inner worlds of the Draconis March little chance of being awarded prestigious defence contracts.

â€œThis isn't about Mordecai, Tancred, this is about what is best for this March do you surrender it?”

   â€œNo”

â€œThen we have nothing more to talk about.  Your company is free to leave Tancred should any of your forces close on mine we will consider them hostile.”

â€œYou're being serious?  Jerome I have an entire RCT, Training Battalion and a Militia force.”

â€œI am being deadly serious Tancred” Jerome said the Duke could now see more anger on his face than before “you will also find you have an understrength RCT and Training Battalion and that by the time you return to your base the Militia has changed its deployment pattern.”  He said shocking Tancred, his cousin has usurped his own planetary militia!  “I asked them to do so peacefully and to interrupt us if something went wrong.”

â€œWent wrong!” Tancred said angrily pointing his finger at his cousin “you are bringing Civil War to Robinson!”

â€œYour failures as a leader brought that.”

â€œEven with the Combine closing in on us.”

â€œEven with” Jerome said his voice full of determination.

â€œI have the Audacity on its way to the planet it is not swayed by our name Jerome purely by my rank and none of your men are recognized by me as AFFS.  You are a rogue element.”

â€œIf it is your choice to bombard your own planet then it shows how far you have fallen, Tancred, good day.”  He said turning his back on Tancred the Duke was sorely tempted to strike him down here and then but that would solve nothing and probably kick off the entire conflict.  He needed another option turning around he quickly left the complex returning to his company.

As Jerome had said the Robinson Militia had redeployed to a “more effective position” which happened to take them off the Robinson Rangers flank and closer to the Strikers.  Although the Militia was nowhere near striking range of the Rangers they were hardly in a supporting position.  Tancred ordered his people to maintain readiness facing both other units on the planet while traveling to Robinson City to use the HPG to communicate with First Prince Victor Steiner-Davion or Marshal of Armies (pro-tem) Galen Cox; the Combine wasn't the only problem facing the Federated Suns.

Construction
McKenna Shipyards, Kathil Orbit
Capellan March, Federated Suns
21st April 3095

After four years of extensive repairs and rebuilding the McKenna Shipyards in orbit over Kathil are brought back online.  At the shipyards work begins again on the three partially completed Avalon-class Cruisers the FSS Samuel Davion, FSS Jackson Davion and the FSS Jennifer Davion.  Instead of building these vessels to their original configuration the McKenna Shipyards engineers plan to build them to a newly designed Block II configuration, an upgraded class of vessel which takes advantage of several advances in technology such as the Lithium Fusion Battery Mk II, Laser Anti-Missile Systems, Rotary Autocannons and Silver Bullet Gauss Rifles, the class also carries twenty aerospace fighters a significant increase of the vessel's original complement.  Although not the largest ship in the AFFS Navy the class is seen as one of the ships the AFFS are most prideful about.

Ground Battle Site
Robinson, Robinson PDZ
Draconis March, Federated Suns
28th April 3095

Duke Tancred Sandoval walked among the broken Mechs and Armour of his command.  A lance of Mechs loyal to Jerome Sandoval had encountered a lance of Tancred's Rangers.  The battle had rapidly escalated as both sides called for reinforcements.  For nearly an hour the two forces battled before finally breaking off the engagement.  Nearly a combined arms regiment of militia and Striker units loyal to Jerome had been destroyed while two battalions of Tancred's forces had fallen the only saving grace was that his forces had held the battle ground and could salvage some of the machines the lost personnel were irreplaceable. To stop any further accidental comings together Tancred had pulled his units back he didn't want to bring civil war to Robinson hopefully this was an isolated incident that they could step back from the abyss before things got totally out of hand.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.
