Pocologan
Kaumberg Theatre, Lyran Commonwealth
1st April 3100General Artur Von Danzuch looked out the window, watching the fleet of JumpShips slowly gather at the jump point, carrying two full RCT’s, an independent BattleMech regiment, two mercenary battalions, and two full independent aerospace regiments. It took three months of constantly urging the Estates General, but at last he and the exiled Duke Michael Sherris of Timbuktu had convinced them of the necessity of the strike, overriding the Archon herself.
“Today will be a day long remembered. We will finally return Timbuktu and the other planets to the Lyran Commonwealth as they should beand punish the Able upstarts and their pet Clanners,†remarked the other man at his side.
Artur himself did not care of the hateful duke, yet he did have his uses. “I put the last of my political capital into this, Duke Sherris,†he warned the other man. “If this fails-,†he was cut off.
“It won’t,†insisted the other man, causing Artur to turn his head to look at the other man. He could see the fires of hatred and determination in the man’s ice-blue eyes. “The only defenders we will be facing are one of their cluster combat teams and any planetary militia stupid enough to come to their aid. By this time next week, the three planets will be under our complete control.â€
Finally, he nodded to the other man. “Very well,†he answered, before turning and pushed himself across the bridge of the LCS Carl Steiner, the newest Hyperion-class heavy cruiser of the Lyran Commonwealth’s Navy.
Soon enough, he grabbed on the back of the chair, where Leutnant-Kommodore Bridgette Davis, the captain of the Carl Steiner, sat. “All JumpShips have reported in. We can jump at your command, General,†the slightly older naval officer with gray hair answered his unasked question.
“Good,†he commented back. “Signal the fleet. We will jump in an hour,†he ordered to his senior naval officer.
“Aye General,†he heard her response as the duke soon joined them.
“Why aren’t we jumping now, General,†the younger man demanded. “We have the backing of the Estates General!â€
“Patience, your grace I have my reasons, which you will see for yourself soon enough,†he assured the other man as he rolled his eyes, though was careful to not let the younger noble see him do it. The duke was itching for vengeance against the stain the Collection had brought to his family, Artur well knew, just as he was itching for redemption in the eyes of his countrymen.
Nearly an hour later, his reasons became clear as day when the Carl Steiner’s comm officer yelled out, “Message from Tharkad, General, Kommodore. Sending it to your terminal now, ma’am.â€
Looking over the kommodore’s shoulder, he and the Duke of Timbuktu caught site of the real time hologram of the Archon herself. “Archon,†he greeted his nominal ruler. “Any encouraging words for our forces as we begin our righteous actions,†he asked her, knowing full well the reporters embedded onboard the Carl Steiner were listening in.
The Archon’s hologram visibly sighed, before nodding her head. “Your forces are go for launch, General,†she reported to Artur. A moment passed before she continued. “The entire Commonwealth is watching you. Be careful and don’t take any chances. May you return carrying your shields, or upon them,†she intoned to the bridge, paraphrasing the orders of the ancient Spartans of Terra thousands of years ago.
He nodded to her hologram as he caught her staring into him before she signed off, all the while he could hear the bridge crew whispering among themselves excitedly. Her orders were clear. Take no unnecessary risks and that meant the Carl Steiner, itself in the middle of its final trials, would back out if the Collection’s Whirlwind-class destroyer or New Syrtis-class carrier was encountered.
Their strikes were only the first wave of Operation: Wut. He smiled ferally to himself. If they were successful, the second wave, led by the Third Royal Guards RCT, would strike at either All Dawn or the Collection’s capital world of Gilfillan’s Gold, depending on political and military considerations.
“Go for launch,†he repeated the Archon’s order to the Kommodore, and nodded to himself as the naval officer gave out orders to start the clock for the fleet to jump. He had put his very future on the line, he knew. Whatever happened in the coming weeks would decide it.
Operation: Wut, the Lyran’s answer for the Collection’s strike on Kwanjong-ni, begins. Elements of the Fifth Alliance Guards RCT target the worlds of Halifax and Wiltshire, while the Twenty-fifth Arcturan Guards RCT and the Seventeenth Lyran Regulars Regiment target Timbuktu. Wave Two of the Operation begins to form on Kaumberg. The Fourth Rim Lancers Gamma and Omega Clusters, the Third Rim Lancers Beta Cluster on Timbuktu effectively go to ground on Timbuktu, along with the planet’s three militia clusters. While waiting for reinforcements, they launch guerrilla attacks against the Lyrans, hoping to weaken the invaders.
Post Trial of Position, Senior Officer Changing Room
Sudeten, Jade Falcon Occupation Zone
3rd April 3100 Jana Pryde rubbed the sweat from her brow in the changing rooms stripping off her tank top she reached for a towel what she needed was a long shower. Behind her she heard the door open but she didn’t care about being seen undressed she was a warrior not a moaning civilian. “Congratulations on your win, saKhan†the instantly recognizable voice of Ruel Chistu said after a moment Jana tensed for a moment almost expecting his words to be followed by an attack.
“Thank you Khan my aim is to serve our Clan†she said in a rehearsed answer not turning to face him she didn’t mind being seen this way but this man creeped her out.
“Aff, of course it is and in this new position you will be at my beck and call†Ruel replied he sounded closer to her.
“I will serve our Clan until my dying breath†she replied moments later she felt his hands on her shoulders and felt Ruel’s breath on her skin causing goosebumps to rise all down her arms.
“Yes you will my young saKhan†he whispered “and your dying breath will be as soon as I can arrange.†He said she could see his broken tooth smile in the corner of her eyes “enjoy your shower†he said moving his hands slowly over her shoulders and back as he stepped away. Jana did not move from her position until she heard the door open and then close behind her Khan, now she really needed a shower and she needed a plan to survive that man.
Command Office, Gray Death Legion HQ
Glengarry, Isle of Skye
Lyran Commonwealth
9th April 3100 The trip from Terra to Glengarry had been uneventful which had given Dr Dana Carlyle lots of time to think. She’d taken an extended leave of absence from the Geneva Medical Centre to see to her family’s interests but now she was here she didn’t know what to do. She wasn’t a warrior or a commander she looked after people the most she’d done anything like this was administration paperwork. Now she was the owner of the Gray Death Legion it was her right to command it and she was seventy-two percent owner of the Gray Death Industries Battle Armour production and she didn’t know where to start. On her dad’s desk sat paperwork showing the remaining personnel of the Gray Death Legion and their equipment she sat on one of the guests seats reaching over to pick up the folder. She looked at the old chair and everything hit her that chair had belonged to Grayson Carlyle the founder of the Legion and his son, her father, Alexander.
She remembered her father sitting there all those years after being trained by his father he knew everything that he needed to do how could she take his place? Sitting back in the chair she continued to look at the chair thinking a thought crossed her mind something her father had said that his father had told him about when the Gray Death Legion had formed. Grayson Carlyle had been trained by his father to be a MechWarrior but he knew nothing about administration when he’d first taken command of the troops who would eventually form the Legion her grandfather had told Alexander that he’d taken it one hour at a time since waiting until the next day was just asking for trouble. So she decided to do the same take this hour first read through these personnel and equipment files and see what happens in an hour’s time.
Three uneventful hours later she had finished reading the files and nothing worse had happened. Looking out the windows she saw the new recruits being put through their paces by the drill instructors those young men and women would be the future of her family’s, no her, command. Deciding that they needed to see that she was not done she decided to get changed and join them maybe give this life a chance.
Border Raid
Uhuru, Isle of Skye
Lyran Commonwealth
13th April 3100 Following their success in turning back an Isle of Skye/Mercenary raid on Concord Clan Wolf push onto Uhuru intending on inflicting further damage on the Lyrans for their trespassing on Wolf claimed soil. On Uhuru they find the Lyran’s Commonwealth’s Sixth Commonwealth Guards supported by the Star League Defence Force’s Third Avatar’s Brigade.
Although severely outnumbered the Wolves are able to lead the defenders in circles as they probe defences and cause damage for nearly eight days before retreating from the system. During the battles the SLDF debut the Tribune Mobile Tactical Command Vehicle which is far more mobile than previous designs while also able to defend itself. The Lyrans also deploy their Hetzer Jagtiger III Heavy Tank the fuel cell powered engine based on an enlarged Hetzer hull the vehicle has a forward fixed snub-nosed Long Tom Artillery cannon supported by turret mounted Short Range Missile launchers and Machine Guns with fourteen tons of Hardened Armour. The design proves to be very successful especially against Wolf battle armour and vehicles and its success are only limited by the small number deployed by the Lyrans. Following the battle both the Lyran Commonwealth Quartermasters and those of the Star League Defence Force approach Quickcell looking to purchase more vehicles of the design.

Scouting Patrol
Meowing, Periphery
27th April 3100 For the last week a lance of Mechs supported by a company of armour and an equal amount of infantry of the Filtvelt Coalition’s First Guardians Regiment had been based on the world of Meowing. MechWarriors Bruce Flanigan and Emily McCormark were bored they’d patrolled the inhabited continent everyday and nothing “why are we here? Em†Bruce asked walking his Shadow Hawk slowly over the largely abandoned continent in total there were four hundred and seventy-two inhabitants on the planet barely enough to qualify it as being inhabited.
“Why you asking me?†She asked moving her Wasp slowly alongside the medium BattleMech.
“Because you know everything and I’m just a MechJock.†He replied
“Oh you’re so sweet†she replied Bruce remained quiet for a moment after being partnered with her so long he knew that she wanted to speak more. “It’s something along the lines of the big wigs on Filtvelt are scared of nearby threats that have finally come into full view. They have lots of big stompy Mechs and of large spacecraft that fly through space and our bosses are worried that they will want our planets.â€
“So they send a Mech lance here? I love being the bait on the end of the hook.â€
“And so do the guys on Ulksollen and Fugeres just part of the job.â€
“This isn’t what I expected when I joined the Guardians we’re supposed to be a defence force this seems to be expansionist.†He said
“A forward defence is the best defence we’ll be here until they get the HPG online. Of course then they will need a defence force for it.â€
“And how exactly are we doing that? HPGs cost a fortune.†Bruce said for the same price of the three HPGs they could have re-equipped the entire Filtvelt military.
“Thank the Star League Communications Department†Emily replied “that’s who they techs are on the DropShip and why we took some neigotiators with us. Local labour and materials Star League expertise and walla! We have a new HPG.â€
“And the Star League gets a freebie listening post? The Nova Cats invade here and our first job will be to send a message to Filtvelt and then that same message will go to the other Star League states.â€
“And the Star League being the great big mega power that it is will have a big long talk about it and do nothing while our people are torn to pieces by an expansionist enemy. Why is it we can see this isn’t going to work?â€
“Because we are practical people†she said “not that I think a new army would stop the Nova Cats†she said going on.
“Nope but at least the good old SLDF will know they are coming you know you’d think history would tell them something ComStar were based in the Free Rasalhague Republic and that didn’t help them much.†He said continuing to grumble Emily had heard this argument a hundred times before it didn’t matter to Bruce that ComStar had its own agenda during the Clan Invasion only that one nation had been hung out to dry once by the other states and that he could see it happening again. She just hoped that they had been rotated off this planet before the Nova Cats arrived in the system.
