Planet Profile - New Barcella
« on: April 13, 2011, 12:24:54 PM »

Different type of bonus file I have - New Barcella - the Nova Cat capital

New Barcella
Star Type (Recharge Time):    G3V (184 Hours)
Position in System:       2nd of 6
Time to Jump Point:       8.5 days
Number of Satellites:       3 (Strength, Vision and Belief)
   Surface Gravity:          1.1G
   Atmosphere Pressure:       Standard (Breathable)
   Equatorial Temperature:       32 °C (Tropical)
   Surface Water:          81%
Recharge Station:       Both Nadir and Zenith
HPG Class:          Standard Clan and on multiple nearby WarShips
   Highest Natural Lifeform:    Mammal
   Population:          10,901,558 (approx)

The New Barcella System is a single jump outside the former Tortuga Dominions.  This quickly became the capital system of the newly christened Nova Cat’s Den and is completely unknown to the rest of the Inner Sphere, Periphery and Clans a secret that the Nova Cats take great pains to keep.  The World of New Barcella is second in a system of six planets, the world is about 1.5 times the size of Terra, and has three orbiting moons making for a stronger tidal pull and a slightly increased planetary gravity as well as the frequency of storms, although Clan Nova Cat has reduced the strength of these significantly with the building of several weather control stations.
With 81% of the planet covered in water the planets population are restricted to the planets only ‘Super-Island’ in the Northern Hemisphere, named Dagda by the local Nova Cat Population, several hundred small islands are spread over the entire planet however none islands are permanently inhabited and few have even been explored.  Unlike many worlds New Barcella has no polar ice-cap regions instead the entire worlds is held in a relatively comfortable Tropical climate although the Equatorial Regions sometimes feel a little too humid for extended exposure no major settlements are directly on the Equator.
Since settlement by the Nova Cats in late 3058 the planet’s population has reached nearly eleven million inhabitants, the Nova Cats have built several habitats on Dagda, on and under the ocean.  Around twenty kilometres from any land is the Borealis settlement a massive sprawling water bound habitation and scientific complex visible from orbit.  At this facility the Nova Cats have begun to explore New Barcella’s oceans with remote operated vehicles (ROVs) and they service their three Wet-Navy Warships at this facility.
The current capital is Phillip Drummond City named after a founder of the Nova Cat Clan, the city base on Katyusha City on Strana Mechty in Clan Space is based around a structured five pointed star design.  Inside the city the Nova Cat Clan Hall, seen on Strana Mechty has been recreated.  The building is located in the centre of the massive city, the six storey hall stands surrounded by a kilometre of hedge rows.  On each facing looking over the hedge rows are four statues.  In front there is Nicholas Kerensky, although the Clan has left Clan Space nearly completely they still have deep respect for the creator of the Clans and honour him.  On each side are statues of the two influential members of the Clan.  The founder of the Clan Philip Drummond and his daughter Anna Rosse, who brought visions to the Nova Cat Clan, then behind the hall is a statue of Commanding-General Alexandr Kerensky.  Inside the Hall there are statues of a Nova Cat OmniMech and a Dragon Cat OmniMech representing the two OmniMechs the Clan believes will lead them into the future.  Although there is a desk beside these statues the real work area is based behind them in a high-tech office area with feeds that link it to everything on New Barcella and in the Nova Cat’s Den.
North of Philip Drummond City is the Way of Seeing National Park which covers hundreds of kilometres of land and is considered a Clan treasure there the Nova Cats have introduced several prides of nova cats, the Clan’s animal totem has taken quite well to New Barcella’s climate.  In 3061 they were released and roam free all over Dagda hunting the native herds of cattle and other animals, as on their native Clan Homeworld also named Dagda the Nova Cat has become the dominant predator on the New Barcella plains.  So far the Nova Cats have encountered two major animals native to the planet, the first is a plankton eating fish, similar to Terra’s Whale Shark, although New Barcella’s variety can grow to the size of Terra’s Blue Whale.  The second is far more dangerous a carnivorous shark that grows to the size of an Terran Orcas Killer Whale, thankfully the shark has no interest in the Nova Cat fishing teams and science teams exploring the planet - they are too small to satisfy its eating habits.
The Nova Cats built most of their primary military industry and their Primary Genetic Repository moved from the Clan homeworlds in secret.  In late 3061 they began building a WarShip construction and refit shipyard however due to the facilities in the Varnay system this has yet to be used.  At both Zenith and Nadir points they are building Recharge Stations.
In 3064 the planet gained a wet navy Shipyard and two Rapier-class Patrol Destroyers, purchased from the Federated Suns, and one Persecutor-class Attack Submarine.

Comments welcome, I have other planet profiles as well

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

Very nice detail. If there's one thing (among many) the Clans are good at, it's setting up pre-fabricated shops in short periods of time.

Following a discussion with Cray on the CBT site I've updated the world a small but the star is now G3V type, the time from jump point is 8.5 days instead of 2.3 (this stops the planet turning to a cinder and makes room for jump points) I'm also updating the fluff slightly as there is a higher than likely possibility of hurricanes/typhoons so the Nova Cats are building Caph styled orbital mirrors.  I've also lowered the average highest temperature as before it was desert style

Glad you've enjoyed I have others that I've created and some canon worlds that have had changes so I'll post them as well as I go along.
