The world of the Twin Sons is a highly developed world in the Former Free Worlds League that has almost completely been forgotten by the majority of humanity. Originally colonized around the year of 2740 during the rein of Captain-General Simone Marik she intentionally allowed the world to be highly colonized encouraging large groups to move to the northern and southern regions before turning the world over to her twin sons Cameron and John. Simone's only instruction was that the Twin Sons remain cut off from the rest of the Free Worlds League that her sons ensured the world's survival on its own with their stewardship.
The two sons of Marik ensured this world would never reach the heights on the Inner Sphere by ensuring both the Northern and Southern realms remained at war with two great nations the Northern States of Cameron Marik and the Allied States of John Marik being formed. Both nations were supplied with advanced Fuel Cell technology for their ultra-light BattleMechs ensuring that neither side had the endurance for long term combat provided by Fusion Engine technology.
The twins played each nation against each other for decades the deserts between the two nations becoming a massive playground until both became bored with the world coming to visit less and less until they were killed during an attempted assassination attempt against their mother. With her sons dead Simone ignored the world until it was forgotten from all records.
The people of the Twin Sons did not mind being forgotten instead they continued to refine and develop their world creating cities that rivaled those of any in the Succession States while developing mass MagLev transport systems that linked the north and south. Although they refined fusion technology to the point of being able to put them into BattleMechs they chose not to instead keeping with the "traditional" Fuel Cell technology developing special hand-held weapons to supplement the firepower of their locally designed and produced designs.
In 3061 after Clan Smoke Jaguar were annihalated by Inner Sphere forces a group of Smoke Jaguars led by Michael Furey landed on the world. A mixture of Clan Armoured vehicles and Elementals the Smoke Jaguars believed they had discovered a world ripe for conquest. The locals believed that they had been invaded by aliens, after being cut off from the rest of the Inner Sphere for so long they were taken completely by surprise by the superior Clan technology. After over a year the Smoke Jaguars had taken over large areas of the Badlands however both the Northern States of Cameron Marik and the Allied States of John Marik had agreed that these invaders needed to be stopped banding together they forced the Smoke Jaguars into retreat eventually forcing them back to their original settlement of Port Arthur. After several months of siege warfare both hemisphere nations declared the Smoke Jaguars defeated despite never setting foot in Port Arthur.
In 3086 a scout party from the Rim Association landed on the world intent on finding out how such a highly developed world had been "lost" by the Free Worlds League. They were seen much in the same way as the original Smoke Jaguar landings with suspicion and aggression from the Sothern Allied states. After banding together with the Smoke Jaguars of Port Arthur they escaped the world leaving behind their commander Sandra Rimmer.
Technology
Unlike the rest of the Inner Sphere and Clans the Twin Sons see the Fuel Cell Engine as the main source of power for BattleMech technology. Most of their Mech designs are 10-15 tons in weight although there are some "assault" class units that come in between 20-25 tons. Most BattleMechs on Twin Sons use single shot weapons like grenade launchers, rocket launchers and one-shot systems they supplement their firepower with massive hand-held weapons like machine guns and rifles these weapons which are interchangeable between BattleMech units. Because of some unique properties of Twin Sons the people have developed BattleMech structures and armour that act like Endo Steel and Ferro Fibrous without needing space based factories.
Only Port Arthur has power armour units remnants of the Smoke Jaguars Elemental forces that came to the world in 3061. The worlds armour is well equipped but mostly dates back to Succession Wars levels of technology after being long neglected in favour for BattleMech development. The only real units on the world that are equipped with Fusion engines are the "capital" assets, these units which are massive are rarely seen outside the capitals of the Northern States of Cameron Marik and the Allied States of John Marik.
Unlike the rest of the human sphere the Twin Sons have little to no combat aircraft. Due to properties in the worlds atmosphere DropShips, small craft and aircraft find it nearly impossible to stay airborne without extensive damage to their systems. DropShips need extensive modifications before being able to transit the atmosphere without damage. There are some VTOL craft on the world however these are rarely deployed in combat roles due to the limitations put on them by the atmospheric problems.
