From "The Legends" mini story

http://ourbattletech.com/forum/stories/the-legends/

2nd Royal Armoured Cavalry Division : Hell's Cavaliers
   - Major-General Bannister Cameron: has been in command of the Second since the unit was stationed in the Concordat several centuries ago. A distant relative to the ruling line of the Cameron family he was exiled to a obscure base in the periphery for his views on “that Amaris swine” which the First Lord disagreed with.  He is a graduate of both the West Point and Sandhurst military academies with a Military Law Degree. Blessed with an innate charisma and leadership ability, his troops would follow him to hell and back if he led the way.  The second reason for his Taurian deployment was his name which brought much needed funding to his unit’s project.
   - Colonel Andrea Kincaid: distant relative of Colonel Charles Kincaid, test-pilot of the first ever Mackie BattleMech the first BattleMech, Andrea never had a stellar career as a warrior however she is an expert administrator and is what keeps the Division turning over easily.  There has been rumours abound that General Bannister and Colonel Kincaid were once involved in a romantic relationship as she transferred into the Second shortly after the General however this is most likely idle gossip.

The Second fields a large complement of advanced ‘Mechs and vehicles that features some of the best technology the Terran Hegemony could make.  The Second is superbly equipped with classic SLDF designs like the Shootist, Mercury, Hussar, Thug and Highlander filling much of it’s TO&E they also have a platoon of the Nighthawk XIX Power Armour suits used by the First Star League's Special Armed Services forces attached to their Infantry Brigade, these suits are operated by SAS troopers of the original SAS and are highly trained in covert operations.  Supporting these advanced ground forces is an equally well equipped aerospace force every single fighter is the same a Blackwasp AM (Advanced Model) Robotic Interceptor fighter.  These units controlled by pre-programmed commands and by operators aboard the SLS Wasp, the Potemkin-class Troop Cruiser assigned to transport the division.

Overview
This unit is quite possibly the largest single active in the Inner Sphere and can trace its direct ancestry to many ancient storied units on Old Terra, but its origin lies with the second periphery uprising and the machinations of the Usurper, Stephan Amaris. The Second was stationed in the Taurian Concordat, on a top secret Star League research and development base split over three worlds to hide the fact they were developing self repairing armour for BattleMechs and vehicles, so called Memory Armour.  Unfortunately this armour was a complete failure by the time the Exodus was called and there was little left for the Second to do.
When the SLDF’s Exodus was called following the Liberation of Terra they packed up their dependants and a large amount of supplies from their base and headed to join General Kerensky’s army the Second never made it to the rendezvous with Kerensky’s forces.  Jumping into the Federated Suns after an engagement with Taurian Insurgents the Wasp miss-jumped arriving in the Federated Suns’ Ridgebroke System in 3083.
The Federated Suns moves to a heightened state of alert not expecting any of Clan Sea Fox’s ArcShips to be passing through sent a WarShips to investigate.  When the FSS Melissa Davion (Avalon) challenged the Wasp a tense stand-off before Bannister Cameron spoke with members of the AFFS Jump Station Crew in the system.
The SLS Wasp’s arrival was not unnoticed shortly after the Melissa Davion’s arrival five Taurian DropShips arrived demanding the Wasps surrender to the Taurian Concordat for unspecified crimes against the Concordat.  The Melissa Davion moved to engage these vessels as it was a Federated Suns system and the Federated Suns would not allow any offensive actions.  The Melissa Davion was assisted as Robotic Fighters were demonstrated first hand by one of the Wasp's DropShips, with these two forces against them the Taurians had little chance.
Even with the Federated Suns WarShips standing off their bow General Cameron called a meeting of his senior officers to decide what to do.  The Terran Hegemony was dead, the periphery was still independent, there was a new Star League had a new enemy from out with the Inner Sphere had arrived, the very army they had missed joining up with.  They were in a vastly changed galaxy from what they had known and they knew they had to find a place for their unit and their descendants that would keep the Second Alive beyond them and remember where the unit came from.  The first consensus reached was that they should stay together; the second consensus was that they would settle their own planet somewhere, third was how to pay for that: some said by becoming mercenaries defending the Inner Sphere from this new threat while others said by becoming mercenaries like other units had obviously done.
All their discussions ended when a third WarShip entered the system, the SLS Covenant, with Commanding-General Archer Christifori aboard.  The Commanding-General immediately requested and was granted an audience aboard the vessel.  After a thorough check of Archer's party they are allowed before the commanders of the Second.  After several hours of negotiations they agree to follow the Commanding-General to Kittery where Archer can explain in depth what has happened to the Inner Sphere since the Second's disappearance.  On Kittery Archer and the new SLDF staff explained what has happened in the Inner Sphere in the last two hundred years, the Second asked for and were granted a temporary recess with Archer cordoning off a portion of Kittery with AFFS help allowing the all of the Second's DropShips to land the Division then retreated into a guarded discussion that lasted three weeks.
Coming out of their seclusion the Second Division's commanders pledge their loyalty to the new SLDF however they demand a home of their own where they can build a city for their dependants and find a place for themselves and to maintain their unit‘s unique place in history.

Hope you enjoy

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Head of Star League Protectorate:      Duke Bannister Cameron
Governor Bannister Cameron: has been in command of the Second since the unit was stationed in the Concordat several centuries ago. A distant relation to the Cameron family he was exiled to an obscure base in the periphery for his views on “that Amaris swine” which the First Lord disagreed with. If Bannister had stepped forward as a living embodiment of the Cameron name it is unlikely that he would have garnered the support needed to rule due to his complete lack of political standing.  Bannister’s lack of interest in politics has long been known.

In 3085 he traveled to see the Goliath Scorpion’s Chi Galaxy which was based on Kentares.  The Chi Galaxy or the Seeker Galaxy was interested in the Second Royal Armoured Cavalry and its history.  While in 3086 he became leader of the Star League Protectorate.  In that same year Andrea Kincaid officially stepped down from her position as Bannister's aide as the two admitted they had feelings for each other.  In 3090 they became parents to twin children Jeremy Kincaid and Nicola Cameron.   After he stepped down from command of the Second Royal Armoured Cavalry Division he became Governor of Liberty and then of the Star League Protectorate before becoming First Lord in 3098.  For a man who was never interested in politics he has grown to embrace the rule as leader of the Protectorate dedicated to protecting the people of the Protectorate and expanding it if able.

Bannister’s main actions have been directed at rebuilding the Marine HQ on Liberty and building up the facilities available to the SLDF.  Since the Second Royal Armoured Cavalry’s arrival Liberty has become a focal point for training for the SLDF while Camp Pendleton has increased in size to include a growing metropolitan area, which is largely focused on the dependents and support of the Cavalry Division, which has brought thousands of jobs to the world of Liberty.  These actions alone have gained Bannister Cameron a good public image as has his continued use of his military uniform despite being officially retired from the SLDF according to Bannister wearing the uniform stops him thinking about being retired.

Andrea Kincaid

Remains Bannister Cameron's right hand in civilian life.  In some ways she and Bannister are seen as royalty across the Star League Protectorate giving them strong standing wherever they go.  The couple have also found time to bring up two children who are both planning on joining the SLDF.
