Tripods and Quadvees

I am just wondering if anyone has had a chance to deploy these yet (canon or Custom) and what you feel their tactical efficacy is for the game?

Not yet. Sorry.

I'm excited to try these out, but I haven't made it to the 3145 era yet.  I've only been playing for about 15 months, so I've basically just "done" the succession wars era.  I'm now prepping for the clan invasion period.  My plan is to play out each era thoroughly, and then work my way up to being current with 3145 or whatever era is current by the time I get there.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Okay, I have come to one conclusion about Quadvees after playing with them ONCE.

the old marketing solgan for the boardgame Othello was "a Minute to learn, a life time to master."

I feel the same about QuadVees.  the Dual Cockpit setup and the ability to go hull down and retain mobility through treads (either through actuator damage or through rublle and wooded terrain) are fantastic advantages.  but how to learn to use them will take a lot more then one play through.

I plan on using an Ares in a Combined arms game soon enough (8 Vehicles, 4 Battle Armor, 5 Mechs including an Ares) so we will see how THAT works out.

I finally got around to deploying an Ares (Hades Configuration)

the tactical offcer/engineer crewman is invaluable.  I only ever lost initative on stupidly low rolls and managed to ride that heat curve pretty darned high.

the tipods manuverability and torso turret also proved to be a great asset.  but the biggest asset was still intimidation factor.my opponent steered clear of the damned thingdespite me pressing the assault with it in the lead and my faster elements harassing at the periphery.  with an Atlas III and Marauder IIC2 protecting it's rear my opponetn could not surround it well enough to be a viable threat.

so Command, Intimidation and Support.  next time I think I will try the Haephestus or Aphrodite....

We tried the same tactic with an Omega in DC, but the bloody thing was overwhelmed—even with support assets in place. Super Heavies tend to draw a lot of fire (almost an irrational amount), so it's super important to rush with your remaining units to cause as much damage as possible before the bloody thing falls apart.

I deployed a full company of Scarborough Mk II hovercraft who pressed the primary assault along with an Kepher, Osprey, and Dervish. I was down thier throats pretty hard, so I am not 100% sure they even had a chance to seize the initative
