after 3145, where we headed?
« on: March 31, 2014, 04:32:01 PM »

Where do you guys think TPTB are taking the Battletech universe next?

Anyone noticed any clues in recent sourcebooks as to what might be the next story development?

I really have no idea, but if I had to guess I'd say that they'd run through some of the older stuff (Star League, SW, etc.) because they've just come out with a lineup of 2750 stuff. I don't follow the books close enough to say much though...

Doubtful you'll get more than a scattered product or two for the SL era. They just spent an entire year on the Star League not that long back. And they're going to want to move forward, as the evolving storyline seems to be what sells. This is the first time in what, a decade, decade and a half that BT has actually had an unknown future. That's too good not to continue moving forward. Sure, they'll offer other era support, but on limited basis. Looking backwards isn't the future of this game. If they want to grow the game, it has to move forward. That includes the rules, though I'm not as confident that part will happen.

the biggest indication we have is nebulous references to a post IlClan "3250" era, where much like the Star Leauge set the stage for Battletech, IlClan sets the stage for this new era.

What that means?  I do not know.

See this thread http://www.ourbattletech.com/forum/general-discussion/3250-1754/ for an existing discussion of post-3145.

I also answer your question about where they are taking us about 6 posts down...

Mr. Rome has posted an outline for the IlClan book. It looks fairly plausible to me, despite today's date.

if it is anything like his Wars of Reaving outline from many moons ago there is some facts hidden in there behind a LOT of playful BS.  For example the idea that the Home Clans may be involved in the book is plausible.

So far, on first reading, there's really only one event I desperately want to be true. If the Kells finally die, and Arc-Royal is finally out of their hands, I couldn't be happier. Both as a Lyran fan, and a frequent drinker of the Kell Hate-R-Aid. This one smells of troll-bait as well, but I'm remaining hopeful.

And Julian taking over on Terra would pretty much be the end for me. That one reeks of troll-bait.

Hah! Sonic Boltgun. That one's brilliant.

it might assuage the Davion Fanboys who are griping about the Fed Suns being under threat to taking the whole damned thing.

NOTHING will get me to stop loving this game, even the total death of the Kell Family.  That said I will mourn.  Both of my sons are named after Kells.

An upgraded Leviathan Prime with HPG guns.  I so wish this is true.
