Distance between Dagda and Circinus: Help Me, Please?
« on: February 01, 2018, 11:26:15 PM »

Okay.  What is the straight-line distance (in light-years) between Dagda (in the Pentagon) and Circinus (the capital of the Circinus Federation in the Periphery)?

Does anyone know?  It would be helpful for me to have this information.

Thanks!

I get a rough estimate of 1,685 light years, with a probable error of about 30 light years - I actually used two maps, one canon, one fan produced, and they came out almost exactly the same, the difference was 5-ish light years.

Thanks, Vition2.

So that is about 57 jumps (if every jump is at the max range of 30 light-years, that is).  Assuming the average jump is about 25 ly, that pushes it to 68.  Increasing to around 85 if I want to avoid crossing into Lyran space (rough guestimate of turning that straight line into an arc).

Or roughly 20 months of travel time (for a one-way trip).  If my numbers are close to accurate.

Does that seem about right?

It's surprising how little of an arc is actually needed, with a bend of the tape measure it looks like you'd only need to add about 5 jumps (the arc around the LC and Rim nations seems to add about 100 ly to the travel distance), to be on the safe side, round it up to ~75 jumps (@25 ly/jump).

As for the 25 ly per jump on average, and 1 week charge time, even the clans don't have a fully mapped deep periphery.  I would probably drop my assumptions to about 20-23 ly per jump average, or use a 9-day charge time as the trip more frequently takes the fleet/whatever through less than ideal systems for charging.  This would either up the jumps to ~90 (21 months) or take about 22.5 months.  This is just a suggestion though, I tend to be very conservative when it comes to these numbers rather than pushing towards the limits of the system.

Your own numbers work fine though, and the math appears correct, they're just a bit more aggressive than my personal tastes.

Thanks for double checking me there.  So roughly 22 months for a one-way trip between Dagda and Circinus, with about 90 jumps in total.  That is going to require a LOT of fuel . . . but I have an idea for that.  Two actually.

Doubtful.  Since those who will be making this trek will have pretty much pissed off the majority of the remaining Clans; so they are going to try and avoid any Clan-held world or system if they can.  Anyway, still working on it, just had to double check a few numbers and make sure that mine were completely off base.
