Black Wolf Battle Armor Query
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:41:46 PM »

Late in Clicky Tech there was an infantry peice called the Black Wolf Battle armor.  rumors were that it was meant to be Clan Wolfs heavy suit to support standard Elementals and other medium weight suits.  I have two leading theories as to what it packed and wanted others opinions before I built it.

there are really two options.  the first is the ever popular to the point of boring AP Gauss Rifle, known for its fantastic range, anti mech damage and D6 against infantry.  the second is the Battle Armor LBX, which functions as an LB-4X autocannon with a range bracket of 2/5/8

so the AP Gauss pros
Longer range 3/6/9
Lighter (200 Kilos)
consistant damage (3 Damage against Mechs, 1D6 against infantry)

LBX pros
more accurate (typical LBX -1 to hit)
more effective against tanks and mechs
when swarming a target an automatic result in all 4 1 point hits impacting
Same SIZE (2 criticals) as the AP Gauss.

long and short, I will have to find 200 Kilos elswhere to fit a Battle Armor LBX, but would it be worth it?

No chance of swarming with a heavy suit so that can be discounted straight away as an option

Personally I'd swing towards AP gauss maybe a modular mount reason being we've already got waiting in the wings the Nova Cats Thunderbird with LB-X the wolves could trial or trade for the design without wasting the development

Then again it could be a T-Bird LB-X without the reflective armour which the wolves reverse engineered from the Nova Cat design

Bigger problem I have with it is why did the wolves bother? They have steady Elemetal supply unlike the Nova Cats the Thunderbird was developed to add ranged fire support to the Rabid forces which lack the armour to advance without cover fire

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Why would they bother Replacing the Mad Cat with the War Wolf and the Fenris with the Wulfen? Heck if I know but they do.

I forgot that Heavy Suits can not Swarm.

I forgot that Heavy Suits can not Swarm.

One thing I could think of was they are unable to manufacture the same parts as the original Timber Wolf used so they rebranded the design

Otherwise maybe to appeal to a new generation

The heavy design makes little sense in general.  It can't swarm or move fast like a lighter unit and can't take the hits like an assault unit.

The only thing really for it is mobile fire support it can be transported by Mechs and carry a heavier payload than mediums

The reason behind the Nova Cat Thunderbird makes sense as they can't build Elementals the Wolves can build them and the Elemental is still one of the best suits

The Thunderbird is meant to do just that, provide heavy fire support for the Nova Cats home brewed "Samurai" Clan Battle Armor (which if you ask me is superior to the Elemental anyway)

I like the modular mount and extra armour on elemental just a shame there's no bonus for disposable missile packs too ;)

The standard clan or Rabid of the Nova Cats is pretty good.  Backed with T-Birds with AP Gauss and LB-Xs is quite a nasty combo
