I'm looking to exercise an anti-Midas touch. If I work on a faction it inevitably dies or suffers a terrible setback. That way the spirit of Blake survives.

They didn't tell you? Your first assignement is re writing the Word of Blake.

Funny you should mention the Word...

WORD (of Blake) is good for two things. 1. Leaving inappropriate notes on other people's work. 2. Adding fake words (of Blake) to the dictionary.

Note to self, do not bribe Knightmare to canonize my Lioness Combat Team...

Good call. It's likely to die in some horrible Blakist-inspired fashion.

I just won't tell you anything secret.

Can we get Ken to write that story?

if they rake the Ire to get a shadow Detatchment after them... that is fine.  I would rather they be like the total Chaos Units... survivors.

Thank you little people. I shall never forget you.  ;D

Hopefully fans won't universally hate it.

Here are two top tips from someone who has written and published out plenty of stuff commercially on how to make fans avoid hating you and your text:

1) Do not add a single pop culture reference to your text. They are not funny, they show you have no professional writing ability and they show you have no respect to a subject you write about. When you have no real respect to a subject you write about, why should I have any respect to you?

2) Do not write shit. CGL writers are essentially miserable hacks so this should be an easy bar to pass. Avoid anything you see on TV. Do not use a single reference to 20th Century things. Above of all try to read real books all the time to give you ideas how real world works. They give you actual ideas and help to avoid turning your mind to mush. Do not read BattleTech material for ideas, they are that bad. Use it only for restrictions on what you can write.

That seems a bit draconian. Some of my favorite non-BT, non-gaming fiction includes the occasional pop culture reference. Those particular successful authors seem to have a rather healthy professional writing career and ability, and a more than healthy respect for their subject matter. Don't go crazy with them, sure. You manage to insert one or two witty ones in 400 pages of text, and I think that you're safe from the author police.

Well, seeing how this isn't my first rodeo or foray into publishing I'm looking forward to amassing a large cadre of hating fans. In fact, I've gone out of my way to sneak in 1-2 80s pop-culture references per product.

I can't wait for the fallout.  ;)
