Off topic Rant - The canon storyline after Victor's return from the Great Refusal is just too dumb for me. Katherine has no shot of taking over the Federated Suns sorry and the Word of Blake buildup is just as unlikely. Been working on a sensible alternative since!  ;D

I also agree with Takiro, but I would go further: The WoB itself flies in the face of all published canon. Then we get the escapades of the  Steiner-Davion dysfunctional family...   >:(

I would disagree with your WoB assessment. Not much of a big jump when they're compared to pre-Schism ComStar sans-Moderates. I'm actually surprised their Jihad rant wasn't worse.

I should have clarified: I'm not so very against the Jihad in and of itself; the WoB shouldn't exist according to all of the pre-3052 canon. If the Jihad had been carried out by a unified ComStar, my opinion would be very different.

The Schism kinda dumps that idea on its head.

As far as naming conventions & right to exist go, the WoB is pretty standard stuff.

They:
  • Have Religion
  • Have Bible
  • Have Purpose
  • Have Zero Moderates

Pretty cut and dry.

IMO, I think the only, perhaps, "Whaaa?!" moment is the initial knee jerk reaction to the dismantling of the Second Star League. Then again, most of us are moderates by default, far less likely to strap an improvised explosive to our chest - which a WoB agent would gladly do.

So it's not that off color or out of character if you dump the whole, "What would I have done" line of thinking.

I would would have thought the creation of the Second Star League would have caused the WoB to go nuts, not its breakup.  They should have wanted it to go away (I know that the canon circumstances had them wanting to dominate the new "fake" SL but just how were they supposed to do that with Katherine running around and Kurita supporting Focht and Victor?).  They, like the Clans, were supposed to be the ones to save the IS from itself and I don't think they ever had the manpower, military force, or planning to pull it off even if they were still a united order.

Dominate is probably the wrong word. More like help guide the new Star League. Keep in mind that preservation of the Hegemony, i.e. the Star League was the central tenet of ComStar. There was definitely some drift over the years, but protecting a legacy was the guiding gist of it. Of course, it was a direction subject to human frailty, layers of religious indoctrination and increasing paranoia as the years passed.

Just a real generalized definition, but you get the picture.

So entering the Second Star League from a position of equality and security, bearing gifts and the strength to protect the Inner Sphere from invading aliens was what the WoB had worked towards for over a decade (maybe longer.)

Having that dream ripped so close to grasping it caused their bloody knee-jerk reaction.

We're getting pretty off topic, so I'll post this in a separate topic  :)

As far as the original topic, the whole thing is dictated by the needs of plot, but after about 3059-60 the writers went off the deep end, and- IMHO- the setting has suffered as a result.

lucho don't know me very well. :o  I am the KING of thread drift.  Just ask Knightmare or Ice.  That was my forte over on S7; especially taking over and drifting the threads of munchkins and ne'er-do-wells. 8)

Yes, drifting the threads of munchkins and ne'er-do-wells can be very rewarding.  Wait a second.  Wasn't this my thread originally?  DANG IT!
