MW Tactics OR Why were we worried about that concept art again?
« on: September 24, 2012, 10:49:37 AM »

So the latest MW tactics mech preview is up, the Trebuchet.  and it is awesome... well last weeks Awesome was Awesome, and this is Trebuchet... you know what I mean.

Seriously I remember when the concept art was coming out and fans were getting thier panties in a bunch because it was not TRO 3025 matched artwork.  now that we are getting a glimpse at in game art assets I have to say, I for one am more and more excited about this game and I am wondering if you guys are relieved, excited, or are still dreading this based on the look and feel?  full gallery reveal is below, you do need the Unit plugin to view the 3D turnarounds.  oh and the original concept art is in the VERY BACK of this page.

There's a few of the Tactics Mechs I like, a couple I don't (Atlas, Hunchback), as for the artwork it really doesn't bother me too much its the gameplay that will define it.

Not using the 3025 artwork I think is a really good thing honestly this is a new game using new technology being designed on computers it's not going to be anything like hand drawn designs.  And that I think is a good thing it shows the world is moving forward.

The fact that they are trying to stick to the roles of the various units is possibly more important.  It's not as though the Tactics Hunchback is a missile boat and the Catapult is an cannon carrying Mech.  Or that they are all carrying hand guns and throwing grenades, it's nice to see that they are sticking with the core of the game, if not the look.

I really want to play it and see what happens.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

I could care less about how the things look, and care a great deal about the game play. I've never even cared about the art in the TROs, and have never really understood why anybody ever did. The fluff mattered there, not the art. The Unseen could be completely disavowed tomorrow and my reaction would pretty much be "Meh. Whatever."

Kinda agree with Dread here, while I do enjoy the artwork in these games, and the books, etc. the gameplay, the fluff, the substance is much more important. I will hold my judgement of MW Tactics until I play it.

I am just waiting for my beta key, I was told I would get one after the friends and family period by email, and it has yet to arrive.

I've checked this out as well and I'm interested in how it works out. I like the art and what I've seen so far.

Other than registering on the Forum, is there another way to apply for a Beta key? I have a feeling it's going to be a very long time before I see one though...

They've started going out, filling out all of the fare on their forums is a start.  Those of us on the forums before they were transformed are in, as well as lucky ones able to get in from the posters at Gencon.  I'm sure more should be outbound before long.
