Find of the Decade
« on: November 19, 2012, 01:48:10 PM »

Today I walked into my local hobby store, I ordered FM: SLDF and Era Report 2750 months ago but they haven't arrived yet - shipping and all that.  Having a look around I spied a whole shelf of BattleTech Novels!!  To say I was surprised is an understatement I missed a lot of the books before they went out of print and have had to get a few on PDFs which are never as good as the real thing.

After painstakingly deciding three books was plenty for now and that I'd return later for the rest with faded prices of £3.99 on the back I went to the counter.  The guy had a look at it had a look at the back had a look in his books "50p a book, there not marked up."    My jaw hit the floor "I asked if he was sure and that there was a whole shelf I'd take if he would sell them all at that price..." expecting him to say no he'd have to take them off the shelf to be properly priced instead "go for it" was the reply I got and he helped me move them to the till "50p a book 30 books £15 I felt like a total thief!"

So I now have...
Assumption of Risk
Star Lord
Main Event
The Price of Glory
Wolves on the Border
Malicious Intent
The Hunters
Grave Covenant
Blood of Heroes
Bloodname
Natural Selection
I am Jade Falcon
Wolf Pack
Ideal War
Falcon Guard
DRT
Far Country
Close Quarters
Way of the Clans Book 1
Illusions of Victory
Heir to the Dragon
Freebirth
Binding Force
Shadows of War
Prince of Havoc
Operation Excalibur
Grave Covenant (EDIT: 2 copies oops  )
Tactics of Duty
Highlander Gambit
Bread For War

I'm guessing they were a donation from a private collection or found in some warehouse but I was totally shocked by the find and very very happy.  Now won't be needing to buy new books for a while

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

...Actually, I'm still deciding whether or not to offer my collection of novels on LotB for a couple bucks each and postage.

Believe it or not - I was on the BTU forums last year, and offered obsolete books (scenario packs, rulebooks, etc.) for the cost of postage.  After trying to get a quote to send some to an American military guy using UPS (and a small dose of confusion at the store), he had the nerve to say he didn't believe I was honest.

I gave up and threw a bunch away, and the paper reinforcements, Battletroops, Clantroops, Rules of Warfare, a couple scenario books, duplicates of the cardboard maps went to the local high-security juvinile offenders facility.  (One of the councilors remembered playing the game once.)

Sounds like you lucked out, Dragon Cat. Since you say the prices were in £ and p, was this in the UK?

I've got all the classic era novels... did they have any of the Dark Age ones? I've still got a lot of gaps from that era since I didn't pick them up first time around.

Yeah Aberdeen Scotland

They had classic books and the 3 MechWarrior books that were released no DA books unfortunately I'd have liked some more of those too

Each chased the Ice Hellion, hunting it down.
All failed to match the predator's speed and grace.
Khan Cage smiled and said, "And that is how we shall be."
