I think thread title says it all, but to elaborate. many a player, mostly munchkins from what I have seen, have repeatedly stated that if the Clans were serious about maximizing their military forces they would produce only a limited set of Omni Mechs, (I have heard a number anywhere from 3 to 9) that were designed to absolutly maximize armor protection, speed, and hitting power.
okay, so I want to know. if we were to take Canon Clan Omnimechs to this conclusion, what are those shining examples of maximized performance?
my short list IMHO
Light Mechs:
the Hellion, it would be even better without the MASC so a Supercharger could be pod mounted. fast, MUCH BETTER armor coverage then the Uller, open Pod space for weaponry, and most configs use a nice wide variety. the initial configurations left a little to be desired, but once 3067 revised came out the Hellion started taking it's role seriously
Honorable Mention: Wulfen this guy is a beast to use, but I am sure it would be seen as cheating because of the Stealth armor and XXL engine.
Medium:
Septiscemia- granted this MAY be a bit of a cheat because it was designed from the ground up to be optimized. ton for ton it's weaponry can match a Mad Cat, and is cheaper to boot. the 8 armor on the head is a SLIGHT disadvantage, but it maximizes Torso protection. it is also not cheating cause NOVA is not fixed!
Heavies- I JUST DON'T KNOW!
Assault:
Tomahawk (II)- in Assault mechs Space is king. the Daishi was the all time champion of empty internals until just recently when the Tomahawk came around and said "why do you have those fixed heat sinks outside of the engine?" the Dark Age Era Model did even better using an endo composite internal whose criticals are all in the legts to gain more tonnage while losing minimal critical space. 56% of this beasts weight is devoted towards pod space! that is just sick!
Savage Coyote- I have been on record saying there is not an 85 ton mech I do not like and the savage coyote is one of the reasons. 8 criticals in the arms and torsos, excellent heat dissapation and a penchent for big guns this mech creates a support platform on a budget. the only thing holding it back was the Coyote's obsession with Advanced Tactical Missiles over more traditional LRM/SRM systesm, but we now know why.
