What role did the Charter have on the H.A.F. . I know when the SLDF was formed they became the Royal Divisions and the core of the SLDF but what is know about them???

Interesting bit of history on the Missus Dominicus or the Missi. It isn’t a perfect fit Ice as I feel like a High Councilor doesn’t go out to help govern distant regions but rather goes to Terra to advise the Director-General but elements of this ancient precursor do fit the role. However I wonder about the Provincial Government which has only been recently outlined on maps but never described in writing. For now I’m calling the leaders of the Provinces (Tyrfing, Lonestar, Lockdale, Terra Firma, and the Core) Governor-Generals but were these high officials on the High Council if they too were governors? Did they too have Provincial Congresses like the Hegemony and Planetary authorities or something else? I’m curious if the Planetary Governors that make the High Council had to resign their posts or were they permitted to keep both titles (dual office holders)?

The Alliance and sheer distances involved in communication did much to kill democracy in the BattleTech universe. In many instances voting on the Director-General is referred to as a plebiscite and turn out with the percentage of yes votes is usually given marking the level of public interest. This brings to mind for me Napoleon and the pseudo elections that marked the French Revolution. Essentially I’m asking you a question and have a pretty good idea what you are going to say. Encyclopedia Britannica has a good definition;

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/464505/plebiscite

So in reality with political parties banned by the Hegemony Charter and candidates sent down for approval by the High Council the people couldn’t stop the process per say and even if they did reject a nominee what is to prevent his re-nomination or outright seizure of power (see the September Revolt).

Gabriel the role of the Charter on the Hegemony Armed Forces (HAF) is pretty clear. The Director-General was the Lord Protector of the Hegemony which is like saying the President of the United States is the Commander and Chief of the military. He was the Supreme Commander of the nation and with the arrival of the SLDF you can see the obvious tie into Royal Command.

Ah Thank you for shedding light on this. So the new and next thread should be about the HAF.

My bad I thought Terens Amaris was part of them but she was a spy.
