Help me Research- the LCAF
« on: February 24, 2014, 11:56:53 AM »

I think I have made it no secret, I am an Elsie through and through.  granted that is more a position of "First Among Equals" then anything else, but I digress.

Once I have finished with my entire backlog of Minis painting I am devoting the rest of my Miniatures Hobby Existence to the Lyran Commonwealth.  the plan is 1 lance per Battlemech Regiment, with RCTs and LCTs to be given special formations

So what I need is an entire legacy for the LCAF. This means:

1) Every named and numbered regiment, so not just your classic X Lyran Guards, but also your Pandora's Cavaliers and Winfields Regiments

2) the latest period they existed (For example the 16th Lyran Regulars exist in the Dark Age, but the 64th Regulars were disbanded in the Succession Wars).  these periods are defined by Catalys Game labs, so Age of War, Star Leauge, Succession Wars, Clan Invasion/Fed Com Civil War, Jihad, and Republic/Dark Age Period.

3) whether they gained RCT status from the Fed Com years on (such as the entirety of the Lyran Royal Guard)

and I am sure there are other qualifiers as well.

as a special note I AM going to be considering both Clan Wolf in Exile and the Kell Hounds/Crescent Hawks as LCAF under the header "Irregulars" so if someone thinks a non standard group should be included let me know.

Would you consider mercenary formations formed by nobles or corporations as irregular formations?

For example the Stealthy Tigers formed by the Duke of Tamar to avoid the limits on noble house troops or the Blackstone Highlanders formed by Blackstone Battlemechs Ltd and their owners?

in the case of the Stealthy Tigers, I would consider them part of the Regional Tamar forces (they were the Tamar Jagers I believe)

other Minor Regiments formed by Nobles for various reasons would, yes, be considered Irregular forces (see Winfield's Brigade)

The Blackstone Highlanders Merit Special Consideration., but I will not commit to them at this time.

Did you check on Sarna?

Due to it's open source Nature, at best Sarna is a skeleton. But yes, yes I did.  I am hoping to use you all as a resource to check against Sarna and garner as much info for me as possible.

I am still debating how to incorporate the 12 Fed Com Corps RCTs into this future plan.  thoughts or ideas would be welcome.

Not quite the Stealthy Tigers were formed during the 3rd Succession War whilst the Tamar Jaegers were formed from the Tamar born survivors of the clan invasion.

Other mercenary units off the top of my head that may merit consideration:-

Mobile Fire - Formed and owned by cousins of the Steiner family.
Storm's Metal Thunder - Owned & operated by one of the owners of Norse-Storm Battlemechs.
Grey Death Legion - Barron von Glengarry.
The Thumpers - Originally the Defiance Industries Demonstration Battalion.

As they never served just the Lyran state why not ignore them and just go for the 5 regiments that became the Alliance Guards?

Thank you for that.

Grey Death is still Merc to he core and the Thumpers I see as a Filtvelt unit.  Mobile Fire likewise may have been formed by members of the Steiner Family, but do not have the same sense of service as the Kell Hounds do.

another example of easy top approve "Irregular" units would be RWA/AEAF units that cashed in with the Lyrans after the Liberation of Terra.

So I got a good leg up on what I call "Legacy Forces"  the Arcturan, Donegeal, and Lyran Guards, Skye Rangers, and Lyran Regulars. short of a 2765 field report I think it is pretty accurate up to just before the fed Com Civil War (and a little beyond).  I still need to make a decision as to whether or not to recognize the entirety of the Fed Com Corps RCTs, just the ones in the Lyran Theater, or just the Alliance Guard.  the document is attatched to this post.

My Remaining things to do for now

All Province and theater Militias

account for "Non Legacy" Regiments (Alliance Jagers)

Account for House operated independent forces (Winfields Regiment, Pandora Cavaliers)

Comb through sources for notable machines (I.E. the 2nd Lyran Guard utilizing Hunchies and Firestarters exclusivley, or the 4th Skye rangers possessing a pair of Lokis and a Ryoken)

Continue to establish irregular forces with an extraordinary loyalty to House Steiner. (Clan Wolf in Exile, Kell Hounds, etc.)
any help or corrections would be appreciated.

Legacy units? How about units from the past? Like the Citizen Regiments created by Archon Marcus? Or the 1st Tamar Hussars (Tamar Tigers)? What about the Tamar Jaegers?

all in due time, it is why I am volentolding the OBT community for help.

I know OF the Tamar Jagers and Tamar Tigers, Just have not gotten around to them.

as far as the Citizens Regiments those were largely ad hoc from what I recall, if I can find more references to them I might support them, but if they were just ad hoc and never made permanent I have little to go on.

you will note that the table also does not count the royal guard, part of that is because "goes without saying" and I have not gotten around to officially recording them.

You can always suggest stuff to add/improve on or even give me specific info and I'll add it to Sarna.

mostly I am checking references on Sarna... so far everything checks out.  the biggest part (and what I will be contributing to ) is when units became RCTs, LCTs and mech regiments.
