Help with Story?
« on: April 01, 2014, 04:33:45 AM »

I'm working on a short story to set the stage for an Alpha Strike game my brother and I are going to play.
Here's what's going on.  A FWL shuttle crew is on a training cruise out to a space wreck near the system's asteroid belt.  The trainee crew tells their training officer they are picking up readings from the hulk.  The training officer jokes that his trainees are reading their instruments wrong.  But they aren't.  The derelict has been used as target practice by aerofighters launched by a clan warship.  Clan Wolf.

My question is, how would the clansmen act?  Would they just attack the shuttle or would they announce their presence first?  I'm having a little trouble getting in the head of the Clan mentality.  I think honor and I keep jumping to either samurai or Klingons in my head.  And I'm not sure what an honorable entry into the system would be.

Any ideas?
My brother is going to be playing Clan Wolf forces attacking the planet, probably going after the Spaceport.  What sort of orders would his Galaxy Commander be giving him bearing in mind that I will be playing the Spirit Cat forces opposing him.

Basically, my short story would be the poor FWL guys getting killed in space, then the Clan Wolf forces land at the spaceport at about the same time that Spirit Cat forces also land trying to do the same.

I needed help figuring out how the Clan Wolf and Spirit Cat forces would react in this situation in terms of honor, challenges and the like.

Thanks,

DS9Guy

A second idea I had would be instead of the Spirit Cats opposing the Wolf forces, making it Hammer's Slammers!

the Wolves would just engage without warning.  in the post wars of Reaving Time frame the Wolves have thrown traditional clan honor out the airlock, instead preferring to let victory be their Honor.  Most Clan Battle Rituals are either a curtosy or used as a weapon by the Wolves..  Couple that with the Spirit Cats not being a "Real" Clan in thier eyes and thus worthy only of scorn, and Zellbrigan gets thrown into a Black Hole.

BattleTech products aren't Pokemon Cards. You don't have to catch, or collect them all.

WHAT NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT!

That's not entirely accurate. Depending on the Wolf warrior in charge, he might go the traditional route to earn more honor for himself (his blood house if he's bloodnamed) and his Clan. It would really depend on whether or not the defending forces shoot first. I've never heard of a Wolf warrior not responding to a communique from a defending force unless the defenders were already considered dishonorable surats.

I'd assume that there'd be plenty of trash talking and threats beforehand, you could try to make that funny or witty or something to start if off well. Just a thought.
